Grey-haired woman in her 50s caught on CCTV taking 'one of a kind' jacket from charity shop

A Swansea charity shop is facing an all-too-familiar problem after a "one of a kind" jacket was stolen from its window display in broad daylight. Claire Franklin, who has managed Greyhound Rescue Wales for eight years, is no stranger to the challenges of running a charity shop, but said this particular theft had been personally "very upsetting". Located in Kingsway Road in Swansea, the shop has become well known for its quirky window displays, often featuring upcycled items like dresses made from crisp packets and denim jackets transformed into unique pieces of art. READ MORE: Cardiff office building could be turned into apartments after being put up for sale for £9.5m READ MORE: Five ice cream shops in Wales named amongst best in UK Claire's goal has always been to blend creativity with charity, as she shared: "I just want to show that you can reuse an item even when you think there is no life left in it." Yet, the recent loss of a specially crafted jacket has left her feeling disheartened. Speaking to WalesOnline, Claire said the jacket wasn't just another item for sale - but something she spent a lot of her free time working on, for the good of the charity. She had taken the worn old jacket and reworked it, painting colourful flowers on the leather; colouring the seams white; making it something truly different. "I had painted the jacket in my own time; it was a bit ripped on the inside but I didn't want it going in the bin - I'd rather make something out of it." The jacket was in line to be auctioned off to raise money for the charity. Claire said: "We do these auctions to raise money for the Greyhound Rescue Charity and the shop. I only do it with the odd item every now and then, I have done a few jackets and shoes. "It tends to be on our Facebook page, one of our previous jackets was even purchased by someone in Australia. I had a customer come in five times begging to buy an item in our window before. This jacket in question was very popular, lots of people were enquiring about it." Unfortunately, the jacket was stolen before the auction could take place. Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here On Monday, June 23, Claire had returned to work after a couple of days off. "It was the end of the day on my first day back," she recalled. "That's when I looked and realised - oh, my jacket is gone! "I asked the assistant manager but she said it had been there that morning. We then checked with the volunteers in case it had been sold, we often get tickets swapped so people get things cheaper but again - nothing. That's when we checked the CCTV." According to Claire, the CCTV footage showed a woman, estimated to be in her early fifties with short greying hair, entering the shop around 10am that morning. The video reportedly shows the woman walking straight to the window display, grabbing the jacket from the mannequin, and going behind a rail to turn it inside out, revealing the lining. "She didn't look around at anything else," Claire noted. "She put the jacket over her arm, checked to see if anyone was watching, and then made a beeline for the door." "It all happened in two and a half minutes," Claire added. "I watched the footage about ten times, and it was just shocking. It was obvious that she came in for the jacket, and only the jacket." The whole ordeal left Claire feeling very upset, but she admitted this was not the first time they'd dealt with thefts at the charity shop. "Unfortunately, we've had this happen quite a lot," she said. "We often get people swapping price tags to get a cheaper deal, or even taking things without paying. We have had people take off their shoes, swap them for a new pair, and leave their old, grotty ones behind on the shelf. It happens more often than people realise." Since the theft, Claire has shared a plea for help on social media, and plans to eventually release the CCTV footage. The post, asking for people to keep an eye out for the jacket, has been shared over 200 times. "We're hoping that by spreading the word, it might turn up somewhere," Claire said. "I just want people to be aware of what's going on. "As I said in my post - if anyone does see it, please do not approach the person, just take a description down and let us know. We don't want anyone putting themselves in danger." The theft not only means the loss of a unique item but also the lost funds that would have gone to the animals the charity supports. "We rely on these auctions to help the charity cover things like vet bills, food, and other essential costs. "Like many charities up and down the country, with the financial difficulties many are currently experiencing, it's difficult to do that with bills also going out." Despite the setback, Claire said she had been heartened by the support of the community. "I've had people come up to me, some of whom I don't even know, to say how sorry they are," she said. "People have come in and donated a couple pounds because they feel so bad on our behalf. "That kind of support has been incredible, and it shows that people care.' Claire remained hopeful that the jacket might still turn up, but said she was not holding her breath. "I'm not expecting it to come back, but I just don't want the person who took it to profit from something that I worked on and was meant to help the charity," she said. "If this story is shared enough then, hopefully, this jacket becomes useless to them. It's a one-of-a-kind piece, so it's not like she can wear it." Greyhound Rescue Wales continues to operate despite the loss, and Claire remains committed to the cause. 'We work hard to make this place a success. It's tough, but we're still here, and we'll keep doing what we do." Following the incident, a spokesperson from South Wales Police commented: "Officers received a report of an item of clothing having been stolen from a business premises on The Kingsway, Swansea, at around 1:45pm on Friday, June 27. "An investigation into this incident is currently ongoing. "Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the missing item – a hand-painted jacket – should report it to us via 101, quoting 2500203528."

The $49 Kmart item you never knew you needed: 'High on rotation'

A $49 jacket from Kmart has quickly become the fashion hero of winter, with shoppers across Australia running to nab one for the cold snap. The budget-friendly shearling jacket has been hailed for its luxe look and incredible value, and it's striking resemblance to a $3,400 designer version from Coach. The two jackets share a similar oversized aviator cut, statement shearling collar, vintage-look hardware, and belted hem. Despite the massive price difference, the Kmart jacket doesn't skimp on style or comfort, and is available in women's sizes six through 20. It also comes in a neutral tan shade with cream faux shearling lining, making it easy to pair with everything from activewear to jeans and boots. The colour, fit and quality are making this a winter wardrobe staple thanks to its ability to keep wearers warm on icy mornings, without being too bulky to wear indoors or while running errands. And unlike its high-end counterpart, the Kmart version is machine-washable, making it a practical pick for everyday wear. However, the items' popularity has seen a few disgruntled shoppers who have complained of stock being too low in their area: 'never in stock,' one complained. Kmart swiftly replied to let all hopeful fans know that they are working with their team to 'make sure there are lots of products you love to shop in-store and online.' They're not the only popular winter item that has shoppers in a frenzy – with some $15 Kmart clogs being named as a perfect 'dupe' of $354 designer alternatives. Melbourne-based mum-of-two, Amelia O'Brien, posted the now-viral video when she couldn't believe her eyes after stumbling across the Senior Footbed Clogs in the kids' section of her local Kmart store. 'These are the perfect colour… like this is the exact colour that I wanted, and they cost me $15!' she said in the TikTok video that now has 15,000 views. 'Cute and comfy,' she added. The winter-friendly slip-ons bear a striking resemblance to the Birkenstock Boston Shearling Antique White Suede Clogs, which are a designer favourite that retails for a jaw-dropping $354. 'I have wanted those Birkenstock slides for so long,' Amelia said. 'They look cute, great for Pilates, but also I'm not paying like $260 for them - that's ridiculous!' She also referenced a similar version by UGG that's currently trending, adding 'they're like $120… but I have just come across these!' The bargain shoes are made from a soft faux suede upper with a cosy, fleece-look lining, and they also feature an adjustable buckle strap and a sturdy moulded footbed, making them stylish yet supportive enough for everyday wear. But there is one major catch - they're technically from the kids' range, so they're best suited for adults with smaller feet. 'My feet are small enough to be kids, so that's a little embarrassing… but also, fab for me,' Amelia joked. Shoppers are now rushing to snap them up before they disappear off shelves, with some TikTok users saying they've also found other great 'dupes' of the style elsewhere, and in adult sizing. 'For a bigger foot, Cotton On/Rubi also have a good dupe for them too,' one commented. 'Target have them in kids sizes and they are genuine leather,' said another. 'Only $30!! I was moments away from buying the Birks' or UGGs and then found them.' While these are a great alternative, some commented that sometimes it's more about quality over bargain buy, especially with what will actually last until next season. 'You say you won't spend $260, but I promise you the real Birkies last yearrrrrrs. I have a pair that are 10 years old!' one fan raved. The viral moment couldn't come at a better time, as Aussies rug up amid a brutal cold snap sweeping across the country.

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more This viral jacket had a waiting list of over 2,500 people, and it's now back in stock From Marks & Spencer's khaki utility jacket, which caused a storm on social media, to the ubiquity of the brown suede blazer on the high street, there have been several jacket trends making their mark in 2025. Few, however, can come close to popularity of Aligne's Daphne blazer, which is currently the jacket of choice for many stylish women, and regularly spotted at fashion weeks across the globe. Aligne's blazer - seen here on Jelena Weir - is hugely popular with the fashion set So what makes this particular blazer special? First up, it's a welcome change from the massively oversized tailoring that has been trending over recent seasons, with its body-skimming, waist-nipping shape. One thing we particularly love is that the jacket features a buckle at the back so you can adjust the fit. It's also excellent for balancing out volume on your bottom half – with long sleeves, buttons to the waist and a split hem, the Daphne's shape is perfect for pairing with maxi skirts or high-waisted trousers. The coolest girls at Copenhagen Fashion Week wore theirs with voluminous, barrel-leg jeans. The main drawback is, of course, that the blazer is often sold out. In fact it is so seriously in demand that there was a 2,500 person waiting list until the brand recently restocked the jacket online. The high-necked Daphne blazer is currently available in classic black or navy for £175 – an investment piece, yes, but one that will have serious staying power in your wardrobe. We'll be buying one now to throw on over summer dresses for wedding season and wear it back-to-back come winter. Of course, given that cinched-in tailoring is something a signature aesthetic for the brand, Aligne has produced lots of versions to choose from, including different fabrics such as linen, various colours (on-trend butter yellow features) and a waistcoat in a similar style. If you don't love a buttoned up neckline, there is also a scoop neck version in summer-ready white.

For Timeless Elegance, Vogue Editors Love Liberowe's Feminine Tailoring

Photo: Courtesy of Liberowe If you were to ask Vogue executive shopping editor Libby Page's what her most worn item is, she'll quickly tell you it's Liberowe's tweed Raja jacket. 'You see a Raja jacket, and IYKYK, it's Liberowe. Discreet but noticeable, luxury but not overpriced, Talia Loubaton has perfected the art of the jacket (and since her launch in 2022 many other things),' Page says. 'If there is one thing you buy from this brand, let it be that, or in my case, don't by another–I currently have four in my rotation and have lost count of the many ways I have worn and styled them–with denim for a dinner with friends to a black kick-flare pant for the office. I put them on and immediately feel complete!' Senior shopping editor Talia Abbas feels similarly about her Liberowe jackets, which are all handmade in London from luxurious, responsibly-sourced fabrics, including deadstock. 'There is no jacket more special or cherished in my wardrobe right now,' she says. 'A perfect little black jacket, the Cora, is on my wish list right now.' Styling-wise, Abbas says she 'likes to balance out their femininity with something totally unexpected—as I believe Talia intended—like faded blue jeans and leather flip-flops.' Step inside Talia Loubaton's Liberowe, where each piece bridges past and present with her signature feminine meets masculine spin. Delicate dinner jackets find their match in mini hemlines and bare legs; ruffled cashmere cardigans soften wide-leg trousers, and floor-length tailored coats elevate the casual ease of jeans and a button-down. Vogue Shopping Insiders can enjoy any of these editor-loved pieces for 15% off, now through June 31.
