California police nab 7 foreign nationals in jewelry store heist, 1 suspect still loose
Seven men accused of committing jewelry heists in their "countries of origin" have crossed the border into the U.S. to commit similar crimes, police said. The suspects are accused of cutting through the roof of a jewelry store in Glendale, California, on May 27. None of them were caught that day, but an investigation was launched, and eventually their group was identified by investigators. "On the evening of Sunday, June 29, 2025, investigators received information indicating that the suspects were preparing to target another jewelry store, Rodeo Jewelers, located at 1560 Foothill Boulevard in the City of La Verne," police said in a news release. "As the suspects attempted to gain entry through the roof, law enforcement officers coordinated to take the group into custody. The suspects also used signal jammers and cut wires to the location during the incident," police added. While eight suspects were observed at the second burglary scene, only seven were apprehended. "All suspects are foreign nationals believed to be involved in similar crimes spanning both their countries of origin and the United States," Glendale police said. They have been identified as: Jose Millafil, Javier Sepulveda, Cristian Gonzalezaburto, Luka Pazitiani, Vera Matias, Victor Iturriagalopez and Edson Gonzalez. Police did not say where they were from. Less than 30 minutes' drive away from La Verne, a family-owned jewelry store in El Monte recently lost half its inventory when the store was ransacked, FOX 11 Los Angeles reported. The Meza family estimates their losses at $1.5 million. Law enforcement sources confirmed to the local TV station that a professional theft ring has been targeting Los Angeles County jewelry stores recently, but Glendale police did not say if the Meza store break-in is attributed to the same group.

Thieves ram vehicle into Sunnyvale jewelry store, evade police after stealing merchandise
A group of thieves stole merchandise from a Sunnyvale jewelry store on Sunday after ramming a vehicle into the building in the middle of the day and later evading police during a chase, authorities said. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a press release Monday that the incident began at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday at a jewelry store on the 1000 block of East El Camino Real between Poplar and Henderson Avenues. After using a stolen vehicle to smash into the building, multiple suspects entered the store and used hammers to smash display cases, stealing an undisclosed amount of jewelry, the DPS said. The suspects then fled in several waiting vehicles, leaving the stolen vehicle behind. One person inside the store was injured during the incident and was taken to a hospital. The injuries were not life-threatening, the DPS said. During the police response, officers located one of the suspect vehicles and attempted to pull it over, but the driver fled instead with officers giving chase, the DPS said. The pursuit was later ended in the interest of public safety, according to DPS. Anyone with information about the incident was encouraged to contact Detective G. Limon at (408) 730-7110. On March 30, a group of thieves used a stolen car to ram another jewelry store in Sunnyvale, less than a mile west on El Camino Real between S. Wolfe Road and Maria Lane. In that incident, a store employee confronted the driver with a gun, and the suspects fled without stealing anything, the DPS said. On June 20, a similar attempted theft happened at a jewelry store in Dublin, with thieves using a stolen car to breach the store's security gates. Local news reports said the thieves left empty-handed because the store's owner had removed merchandise from display cases after hearing about yet another similar smash-and-grab theft from a Fremont jewelry store two days prior.

They Followed a Truck for 300 Miles. Then They Stole $100 Million in Jewelry.
The Brink's semi truck containing dozens of bags of glittering jewels and luxury watches from an international jewelry show near San Francisco pulled into a rest stop nestled among the mountains north of Los Angeles. So, too, did the thieves who were following it on a 300-mile journey. Although specific details on how exactly they pulled off what federal prosecutors are calling 'the largest jewelry heist in U.S. history' were not available, an indictment in the case said that some had acted as lookouts while others made off with 24 bags, containing an estimated $100 million worth of goods. Now, nearly three years later, seven men have been charged in connection with the theft, and some of the jewelry that was stolen has been recovered, the Justice Department said in a news release on Tuesday. 'This isn't a group that just woke up and met in the park and said, 'Hey, let's go follow a jewelry tractor-trailer from a jewelry show,'' said Scott Guginsky, the executive vice president of the Jewelers' Security Alliance, a trade association that tracks jewelry crimes for retailers and the police, adding that a lot of thought goes into planning such a crime. The men who have been indicted — Carlos Victor Mestanza Cercado, Jorge Enrique Alban, Jazael Padilla Resto, Eduardo Macias Ibarra, Pablo Raul Lugo Larroig, Jeson Nelon Presilla Flores and Victor Hugo Valencia Solorzano — each face two counts of conspiracy to commit theft from interstate and foreign shipment, as well as theft from interstate and foreign shipment, according to the Justice Department, which did not say how the men were caught. Five of the men — Mr. Mestanza, Mr. Padilla, Mr. Lugo, Mr. Valencia, and Mr. Alban — were also charged with two counts of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, as well as interference with commerce by robbery, prosecutors said.
