MACC probes alleged milk powder cartel tied to govt department

A source from the MACC was quoted as saying that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Inland Revenue Board and Bank Negara Malaysia. PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating three individuals believed to be the masterminds behind a milk powder supply cartel involving a government department. Berita Harian reported that the products, worth an estimated RM120 million, allegedly failed to meet standard specifications. The Malay-language daily quoted a source from the MACC as saying that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and Bank Negara Malaysia. The source also said that officers from all three agencies yesterday raided three residences and a company premises in Kuala Lumpur, believed to be used for storing various documents. The raid focused on seizing documents related to milk powder supply contracts dating back to 2019. About 80 bank accounts with a total of around RM70 million were also frozen. The investigation is being carried out under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. LHDN is also probing the matter under the Income Tax Act 1967.

Azam Baki: No criminal elements in MyKiosk tender probe, to seek court order for RM170m asset forfeiture linked to Ismail Sabri

KOTA BARU, July 4 —There are no criminal elements in the investigation into allegations of corruption and misappropriation related to the MyKiosk construction tender by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. He said the MACC's current investigation revolves around governance issues. 'There has been a misunderstanding in the media suggesting we are investigating a criminal case. We have conducted a preliminary investigation and found no criminal elements, but we are now focusing on governance issues, if any, in order to provide recommendations to KPKT for improvement. However, the matter is not yet concluded,' he said. Azam said this at a press conference after witnessing the handover of duties between the new MACC Kelantan director Azmin Yusoff and his predecessor Rosli Husain here today. He added that the MACC took into account the report from MCA Youth as well as input received from KPKT itself, and the ministry had cooperated well in the investigation. Yesterday, the MACC began investigations into allegations of corruption and misappropriation involving the MyKiosk construction tender by KPKT. Meanwhile, commenting on the investigation involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Azam said the MACC would apply to the court to forfeit assets worth RM170 million that had been seized. 'If he (Ismail Sabri) challenges this in court, then the trial will proceed, and if the forfeiture is successful, the money will become government revenue. That is the decision made by the Public Prosecutor at this time,' he said. Previously, the former Prime Minister had been called in several times for statement recording sessions regarding the declaration of assets he made to the MACC under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009. The Bera Member of Parliament is also being investigated for corruption and money laundering involving the expenditure and procurement of funds for the promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his tenure as Prime Minister from August 2021 to November 2022. The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. — Bernama

Two Sabah reps, businessman to face graft charges tomorrow over mining licence scandal

KOTA KINABALU, June 29 — Two state assemblymen and a businessman arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Ops Adun, are reportedly scheduled to be charged tomorrow. New Straits Times wrote that the Sabah MACC said the trio are expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court here at about 9am. They will face a total of four charges under the MACC Act 2009. Two of the charges will be brought under Section 16(b)(A) of the Act for offering bribes, while the other two will be under Section 16(a)(A) for accepting bribes. So far, 15 politicians have been implicated in corrupt activities between 2023 and 2024, in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications. Earlier this month, MACC said it would charge two Sabah assemblymen and a civilian in court this month over a corruption scandal involving the mining licences. MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki told reporters that the individuals were in the process of being arrested and notified about their court dates.

Baseless claims about 'historic arrest' in Indonesia misrepresent old video

"First in the history of Indonesia, 700 village heads are arrested, they are herded to the KPK office," reads the Indonesian-language caption to a now-deleted clip shared June 4, 2025 on Facebook. Similar posts have earlier been shared on TikTok and YouTube. According to a report from Indonesia's Metro TV News, the KPK has recorded over 800 village fund corruption cases from 2015 to 2024. Village heads comprise half of the more than 900 suspected perpetrators (archived link). But there have been no official reports of a single-day arrest of 700 village chiefs. Budi Prasetyo, spokesman for the KPK, told AFP on June 20, 2025 the claim that the video shows 700 village chiefs arrested by KPK is "not true". A keyword search traced the footage to a TikTok post on November 12, 2024 (archived link). Its caption includes a link to a news report about the South Sulawesi police arresting 21 corruption suspects (archived link). A combination of reverse image and keyword searches on Google also found a similar video of the arrest uploaded to YouTube by local broadcaster Kompas TV Makassar (archived link). Kompas TV Makassar reported the suspects are city and regency officials from government bodies overseeing public works, trade, social services, and public credit banks. The report did not indicate they are village chiefs. Indonesia's Antara news agency also reported about the arrest (archived link).

Two Sabah assemblymen, one civilian to be charged in mining graft case this month, says MACC chief

KOTA KINABALU, June 18 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will charge two Sabah assemblymen and a civilian in court this month over a corruption scandal involving mining licenses in the state, according to Sinar Harian. MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki told reporters that the individuals are in the process of being arrested and notified about their court dates. 'There are two suspects who are state assemblymen and one civilian. We are in the process of arresting them and informing them of their court dates,' Azam was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian. 'I cannot reveal the exact date yet, but I can confirm they will be charged in court this month,' he was quoted as saying. The impending charges are believed to be linked to a high-profile graft scandal exposed last year involving Sabah assemblymen, Sinar Harian reported. Azam also said that the MACC is working with the state's Corruption Court to finalise the prosecution date, with suspects currently being called in for interviews. Addressing questions about a video allegedly implicating the assemblymen, Azam clarified that the investigation is not solely dependent on the video evidence. 'Such cases are complex, and we do not rely solely on video evidence. Other evidence and witness statements are critical to the investigation. Whether the video is authentic or not, it will be evaluated alongside other evidence,' he said, according to Sinar Harian. The MACC chief added that the agency has submitted the findings to prosecutors for further action. The corruption scandal, which centres on Sabah's mineral mining licenses, made headlines last year and is now set to result in criminal charges against the three individuals involved. Azam stressed that further details will be revealed once the legal process is complete.
