Eight-year-old girl sets new lap record at world-famous motor circuit
A new pedal-powered lap record has been set at a world-famous motor circuit. Eight-year-old Alyssa from London completed the 3.8km Goodwood Motor Circuit in just 31 minutes and 51 seconds, smashing the previous record by 10 minutes. Alyssa completed the circuit in 31 minutes and 51 seconds. (Image: Austin Pedal Cars) Raising £7,800 for Mission Motorsport, the Forces' Motorsport Charity, Alyssa made her record-breaking run during the Meyrick Cox Day, held at the West Sussex track. Alyssa said: "That was the hardest and most fun thing I have ever done. "I kept pedalling as fast as I could, knowing each corner was getting me closer to the finish. "It was so hot, and the track seems so much longer against the clock, but I kept going as fast as my legs would go." Alyssa, who has previously raced in the Goodwood Revival Settrington Cup, completed the full circuit—3.5km longer than the traditional race. Alyssa trained for months in her local park before taking on the full circuit. (Image: Austin Pedal Cars) Austin Pedal Cars prepared her J40 for the challenge, ensuring it met Settrington Cup standards and could handle the demands of the full lap. James Cameron of Mission Motorsport praised her achievement. James said: "We are all so proud of the efforts of Alyssa on what was a very hot and humid day. "Her determination and perseverance was an inspiration to us all and not only did her efforts raise a huge amount for the charity, but it also perfectly encapsulated what the day is all about." She powered through the lap without stopping. (Image: Austin Pedal Cars) Meyrick Cox Day is an annual event organised by Mission Motorsport in memory of its late Chair of the Board of Trustees. The day offers servicemen and women, veterans, and their families an opportunity to enjoy recovery sport in a supportive environment. Alyssa trained for months in her local park before taking on the full circuit. She powered through the lap without stopping, cheered on by supporters as she navigated the corners and chicane. Her fundraising total will continue to grow ahead of the Goodwood Revival in September. All donations will go toward Mission Motorsport's ongoing work, supporting veterans with training, recovery, and new opportunities through motorsport. In related news, Austin Pedal Cars is running a competition for young enthusiasts. One winner will be given the chance to race a 1955 Austin J40 in the 2025 Settrington Cup at Goodwood Revival. The prize includes four weekend tickets, entry to both race heats, and Austin J40 merchandise. The winning family will also enjoy a familiarisation session at Goodwood Motor Circuit before the event.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Just Set Another Lap Record
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT can add another lap record to its growing portfolio. Last month, the electric sedan set a new fast lap at Road Atlanta, beating the previous record by 6.73 seconds, which was set by a Taycan Turbo S. The Taycan Turbo GT lapped the 2.54-mile track in 1: 27.15 despite a few damp spots, setting a record for production electric vehicles. The car that set the new time was a Purple Sky 2025 Taycan equipped with the lightweight Weissach Package, which swaps the rear seats for a carbon fiber shelf and adds a fixed rear wing. The Taycan with the pack can have up to 485 pounds of downforce. Photo by: Porsche Photo by: Porsche Porsche introduced the Taycan Turbo GT over a year ago as the brand's most powerful car ever. The EV produces up to 1,092 horsepower, needing just 2.1 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill. The standard output is 777 hp and 998 pound-feet of torque, which is still an astounding amount of power. Porsche completed its record run at Road Atlanta with the car's Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS NF0 summer performance tires set to 37 psi. The automaker also engaged Track Endurance Mode to lower the battery's starting temperature before the two attempts. Porsche set the previous record in 2020 with a Taycan Turbo S, completing a lap in 1:33.88. The Taycan Turbo GT's latest record arrives after the car ran a 1:42.1 at Brazil's Interlagos circuit in March. The car also set a record at the Nürburgring in early 2024 .
