A Surprising Update About ‘Untamed' Season 2 On Netflix
Untamed Netflix has a new #1 show, Untamed, a series about a federal agent investigating an apparent murder in Yosemite National Park. It's reviewing pretty well, fans seem to like it, and once you binge the six episodes, you may be wondering about a second season. Well there's bad news but actually, some surprising good news. The bad news is that as you may have seen, this is listed as a limited series, meaning that it was originally meant to be a self-contained offering with no continuation afterward. And recent comments from its star, Eric Bana, don't seem the most promising, even if he says it's not impossible: 'I haven't given too much thought on this, to be honest,' star and executive producer Eric Bana said to TV Insider. 'It was so encompassing, but obviously we knew that the nature of his job is that these ISB agents do get moved around from park to park, which is why the ending is the way that it is because that is a very feasible thing and it was part of the story structure. So yeah, I guess it's always possible, but it wasn't something that we structurally played with whilst putting these episodes together.' Untamed So, he's not thinking about it and the show was not structured this way. Does that mean everyone is moving on? Not exactly. Here's co-showrunner Elle Smith, who seems far more optimistic about the possibility: 'Oh, we would do this forever if they let us, but we'll see,' she says. 'We'll see how many adventures Turner has left in him… They go to different national parks and they do travel from park to park and case to case and things like that. So I think that's what was interesting to us, and if we got the opportunity to do it again, it would be getting to explore a different park, a different case." It feels like we had these exact same conversations about co-showrunner Mark L. Smith's last Netflix production, American Primeval, which did very well on the service, leading to questions about making the limited series not so limited after all. There was positive talk about a potential prequel series there, but nothing came of it yet. Here, it seems that a sequel season 2 could be more likely, but it still may be a longshot. However, if Untamed remains in the top spot for a long while, this may become more and more likely if Netflix wants to return to the concept and character. I still haven't gotten to it yet, but I've meant to. At only six episodes, it seems like it will be a fairly breezy watch, and I'm always down for a good murder mystery. Netflix's High Threshold: Canceled Series ‘The Residence', ‘Pulse' & ‘The Recruit' All In Top 35 For 2025, Data Reveals
On Netflix, it was a big first half of 2025 for limited series and — outside of phenom Squid Game — OK six months for ongoing scripted series. Only two English-language ongoing scripted series, The Night Agent (S2) and Ginny & Georgia (S3) made it into Top 10 at #9 and #10, with four limited series ahead of them, Adolescence (#1), Zero Day (#4), Missing You (#5) and Sirens (#8), with Sirens and Ginny & Georgia poised to amass millions of extra views in the second half of 2025 having dropped in late May and early June, respectively. None of them was an outright ratings flop. Comedic White House murder mystery The Residence, starring Uzo Aduba, fared the best, ranking #23 with 33.3 million views from its March 20 release through June 30. New medical drama Pulse, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, was #30 with 26.2M since its April 3 release. And Season 2 of spy drama The Recruit, headlined by Noah Centineo, was #34 with 24.1M since its Jan. 30 premiere while its first season added respectable 19.1M views over the first six months to take #47. All three have been canceled while series that launched new seasons during the same Jan-June time period to similar or lower viewership have been renewed, including XO, Kitty S2 (35.3M since 1/16), Ransom Canyon S1 (29M since 4/17), Forever S1 (19.1 since 5/8) and Sweet Magnolias S4 (16.9M since 2/6). The discrepancy underscores the multiple factors going into Netflix's renewal decisions, the leading being cost vs. performance. That was likely in play for both The Residence and The Recruit. As Deadline reported earlier this month, The Residence's first season came at a very high price point due to its all-star cast, elaborate production design and extensive VFX work. There were conversations about ways to reduce the budget for a second installment, likely in a different setting, which ultimately didn't materialize. The Recruit's second season featured a slew of action sequences, with a portion of the story filmed in Korea. The Residence and Pulse, which was produced on a more modest, broadcast-size budget, also may have been overshadowed by Adolescence and The Pitt, respectively. The Residence was released at the height of Netflix limited series' popularity while Pulse went head to head with HBO Max's breakout hit medical drama. There are also other factors taken into consideration, including completion rates, which Netflix values highly but does not disclose publicly, as well as critical acclaim, pop culture impact and what kind of viewers a show attracts as Netflix's model is based on serving the widest audience possible. Another Netflix scripted series whose continuation is in doubt, dark comedy No Good Deed, ranked #204 with 7.9M from Jan-June 2025 in addition to the 15M it drew for the first 20 days of release in December. There are no current plans for a second installment of the murder mystery but the door has been left open. This is not the first time Netflix has axed a Top 30 scripted series. In 2023, it canceled fantasy drama Shadow and Bone whose second season had ranked #26 in hours viewed between Jan-June that year. Like The Residence, it was expensive to produce. There was some consolation for The Residence this week — the show landed four Emmy nominations, including one for Aduba in the Lead Actress In a Comedy Series category. ‘Adolescence' scores with 13 Emmy nominations: Here's what they all are
Netflix has done it again. Repeating the success of The Queen's Gambit, Beef and Baby Reindeer, this year's limited-series contender from the streamer, Adolescence, has swept in with a lucky 13 Emmy nominations. As predicted by Gold Derby, Adolescence earned one of the five coveted limited series slots, a race in which it has been the frontrunner since its debut. It will compete for the title alongside HBO Max's The Penguin, Netflix's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, FX's Dying for Sex and Netflix's Black Mirror. Should Adolescence triumph in September, it will be the first time a streaming service has won the category three years in a row, tying the record set in 1986-1988 by NBC (Peter the Great, A Year in the Life, and The Murder of Mary Phagan). Television Academy voters embraced the series in nearly every category they could, also recognizing it with nods for cinematography, costumes, sound editing, and sound mixing, and not surprisingly casting, given the discovery of Cooper. Adolescence recently earned four nominations from the Television Critics Association, including Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries & Specials, and Individual Achievement in Drama for both Graham and Cooper. Mackenzie Davis Joins Josh Hartnett in Netflix's Untitled Newfoundland Creature Thriller — GeekTyrant
Mackenzie Davis has officially signed on to star opposite Josh Hartnett in Netflix's upcoming limited series set on the rocky shores of Newfoundland, Canada. Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton has also joined the cast,. The currently untitled project comes from creator Jesse McKeown and will center around a small coastal town grappling with a mysterious threat from the sea. This six-episode series casts Hartnett as a hardened fisherman who finds himself battling to protect his family, his community, and a way of life that's disappearing fast—just as something terrifying and unknown washes up from the depths. Davis' role is still under wraps, but she's great and this seems like a great project for her, as it seems like this will be character-driven survival story set against a remote and haunting backdrop. McKeown will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Writing duties are handled by an impressive team including Karen Walton ( Orphan Black ), Perry Chafe ( St. Pierre ), and Natty Zavitz ( Edging ). The series will be directed by Jamie Childs, Helen Shaver, and Stephen Dunn. Davis recently starred in Blumhouse's Speak No Evil opposite James McAvoy and appeared in Swimming Home directed by Justin Anderson. On the film side, her credits include Blade Runner 2049 , Terminator: Dark Fate , Tully , and The Martian . Her television work is just as stacked, having led HBO Max's Station Eleven and starred in AMC's Halt and Catch Fire . She also made memorable appearances in Black Mirror and Love, Death & Robots . Behind the camera, Davis' directorial debut Woaca screened at both TIFF and the London Film Festival. Up next, she's set to headline Netflix's crime noir series The Undertow .

John Slattery, Jessica Henwick Among 9 Cast in Netflix Limited Series ‘Vladimir' Opposite Rachel Weiez, Leo Woodall
Netflix's limited series adaptation of the Julia May Jonas novel 'Vladimir' is rounding out its main cast. Nine new cast members have joined the series alongside previously announced leads Rachel Weisz and Leo Woodall. Variety has learned that John Slattery ('Mad Men,' 'Spotlight,' 'Nuremberg'), Jessica Henwick ('Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,' 'Silo'), and Ellen Robertson ('Mickey 17,' 'Black Mirror,' 'Too Much') have been cast as series regulars in the roles of John, Cynthia, and Sid respectively. Jonas is adapting her book for the screen and also serves as executive producer on the series. Weisz will executive produce in addition to starring. Sharon Horgan, Stacy Greenberg, and Kira Carstensen executive produce via Merman along Jason Winer & Jon Radler of Small Dog Picture Company, as well as Springer Berman and Pulcini. 20th Television is the studio.
