Legendary's 'Street Fighter' Film Casts David Dastmalchian As Big Bad M. Bison

Legendary and Capcom's upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie might already have a pretty stacked roster of heroes, such as Callina Liang's ( Tell Me Everything ) Chun-Li and Andrew Koji's ( Warrior ) Ryu, but the film has now found the face of its lead villain, M. Bison, in David Dastmalchian. Announced via Deadline, this marks the biggest role to date for the 49-year-old actor, best known for his supporting roles in various superhero franchises, including Thomas Schiff in 2008's The Dark Knight , Kurt and Veb in the Ant-Man franchise, Abra Kadabra in the CW's The Flash , and Polka-Dot Man in 2021's The Suicide Squad . Dastmalchian also landed the leading role in the 2023 independent supernatural horror film Late Night with the Devil , playing the charismatic talk show host Jack Delroy. Although plot details remain under wraps, M. Bison (also known as Vega in Japan) is the main antagonist of numerous Street Fighter games and was first introduced in the 1991 title Street Fighter II: The World Warrior as the final boss of the game. As a would-be world dictator and megalomaniac, M. Bison is a truly evil character, whose ultimate goal is to rule the world's governments through his Shadaloo crime syndicate. Dastmalchian's M. Bison joins the film's expanding roster of characters including Balrog (rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson), Vega (country singer Orville Peck), Blanka (Jason Momoa, Aquaman ), Ken (Noah Centineo, The Recruit ) and Akuma (WWE superstar Roman Reigns), with the film being helmed by The Eric Andre Show's Kitao Sakurai. Dastmalchian also takes over the live-action role from the late Raúl Juliá, who embodied the character in Steven E. de Souza's 1994 movie adaptation, Street Fighter , which also starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue and Ming-Na Wen, as Guile, Cammy and Chun-Li, respectively. It remains to be seen whether Dastmalchian's character will take on the same tyrannical version of M. Bison, or if the upcoming film, which is currently delayed indefinitely, will take a different direction altogether. Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 . He has made it his life-long mission to play every single major game release – lest his wallet dies trying. Capcom David Dastmalchian Legendary Pictures Street Fighter

This is the second live-action movie for Dora the Explorer, an animated kids' show that aired on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2019. The series, which aimed to help English-speaking children learn Spanish, centered on Dora Márquez and her trusty companion Boots the monkey, as they traveled the world with Backpack and tried to prevent Swiper the fox from, well, swiping. The first live-action movie, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, released in theaters in 2019, and starred Isabela Moner in the eponymous role. THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Movie Release Delayed, but Creator Shigeru Miyamoto Says It's Worth the Wait — GeekTyrant

The release of the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda live-action movie just got pushed back, but it's not by much. Originally slated for March 26, 2027, the new release date is now May 7, 2027. That's a minor delay, and according to Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto, there's a very good reason behind it. He shared on X: 'This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. 'It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.' Look, fans have already waited a long time for this movie to happen, so a few more months isn't going to hurt. Also, they can take all the time they need to make sure this movie lands the way it should. If you've been following this project since it was first announced in 2023, you know there's a lot riding on it. After the Super Mario Bros. Movie exploded at the box office, Nintendo quickly realized the potential for adapting its other flagship franchises. Zelda was the obvious next move. Wes Ball ( Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ) is directing, and he's already made it clear he's approaching this with reverence: 'I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure that it is the movie we all hope it will be.' He even described his vision for the film as feeling like a 'live-action Miyazaki' experience, which is a pretty bold and exciting creative north star. He also said: 'I know it's important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape. That's the thing I want to try to create – it's got to feel like something real. Something serious and cool, but fun and whimsical." 'This awesome fantasy-adventure movie that isn't like Lord of the Rings, it's its own thing. I've always said, I would love to see a live-action Miyazaki. That wonder and whimsy that he brings to things, I would love to see something like that." "It's going to be awesome. My whole life has led up to this moment. I grew up on Zelda and it is the most important property, I think, that's untapped IP, if you will. Nintendo and Sony Pictures are co-producing the movie, with Derek Connolly ( Jurassic World ) writing the screenplay. The Legend of Zelda follows the adventures of a young hero named Link, who is often tasked with rescuing Princess Zelda and battling the malevolent villain Ganon.

Hunter Schafer Urged to Play Princess Zelda in New Movie

Some fans have a clear idea of who they want to play Zelda in the upcoming movie based on the video game, The Legend of Zelda. There's no question that Hunter Schafer, who has starred in HBO's Euphoria, resembles the videogame character. Nintendo announced the live-action Zelda movie in 2023. "The film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow of Nintendo and Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., who has produced many mega hit films," Nintendo wrote then. Some fans are hoping that the Internet buzz that Schafer might be cast as Zelda is true. "Hunter Schafer as Princess Zelda is THE vision," a fan wrote on X. "She's a great actress, too. I'd be so down to see her in the role," another fan wrote. "She's perfect, though! She was born for this role!" wrote another person. The latest buzz came after an X influencer named Daniel Richtman tipped that Schafer might actually be tapped to play the Zelda role, but fans are debating whether they believe it. "IG RPK EXCLUSIVE SCOOP," Richtman's subscriber-only post on X started on May 29. Schafer is "being eyed for the role of Zelda in the live-action Legend of Zelda movie," CBR reported, citing Richtman's locked-down "scoop." This is "in part because of her physical resemblance to the iconic video game princess, CBR reported. A Reddit thread emerged to discuss Richtman's post, with the poster declaring the news "very exciting if true." Another wrote that "she genuinely looks like Zelda." However, others cast doubt on the reliability of the tip. Richtman has been debated on Reddit before, with some calling him an "extremely reliable trailer leaker." His post has people buzzing, though, about the possibility of Schafer playing Zelda, which some fans have been urging for a while. According to The Pink News, the live-action film "will be inspired by one of the most beloved franchises in the gaming world." Schafer stars as Jules Vaughn on Euphoria and also appeared in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, as well as Cuckoo, according to IMDB. The film "will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. The theatrical distribution of the film will be done worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.," according to Nintendo. "By producing visual contents of Nintendo IP by itself, Nintendo is creating new opportunities to have people from around the world to access the world of entertainment which Nintendo has built, through different means apart from its dedicated game consoles," the company Schafer Urged to Play Princess Zelda in New Movie first appeared on Men's Journal on May 30, 2025

Hunter Schafer Eyed to Play Princess Zelda in Nintendo's Live-Action THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Adventure Movie — GeekTyrant

There's already a lot of anticipation surrounding The Legend of Zelda live-action movie, and now a new rumor has just kicked the fan excitment into overdrive. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Cuckoo and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star Hunter Schafer is reportedly being eyed for the role of Princess Zelda. Schafer's name has been floating around fantasy fan-casting circles for a while now, the actor has a strong résumé with roles in Euphoria , Kinds of Kindness , and now possibly even X-Men , as Schafer is also rumored to be in the mix to play Mystique in Marvel Studios' reboot. The live-action Legend of Zelda movie was officially announced by Nintendo in November 2023, with none other than Shigeru Miyamoto sharing the news himself. He revealed that he's working on the project alongside Spider-Man producer Avi Arad. That last part raised a few eyebrows, understandably, given Arad's inconsistent track record, but it's hard to ignore the sheer weight of the talent involved. The movie is being directed by Wes Ball ( The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ), who will reportedly tackle this project before returning to Planet of the Apes sequels. Detective Pikachu and Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly is scripting it, and the whole thing is a Nintendo/Sony Pictures co-production. The film is scheduled to hit theaters March 26, 2027, just one week after Sonic the Hedgehog 4 . So, SEGA and Nintendo are about to square off again, this time in theaters. So, what does this mean for Zelda herself? Schafer could be stepping into one of the most iconic roles in gaming history. Princess Zelda is no one-note royal, she's been everything from a captive to a warrior to a literal ninja in disguise. Most recently, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have shown her as a more independent and layered character, and a casting like Schafer would definitely signal that the film isn't looking for a passive damsel. The Legend of Zelda franchise began back in 1986 and has since become one of the most beloved and enduring video game series ever made. Created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, the games follow Link as he journeys across Hyrule to rescue Princess Zelda and stop the villainous Ganon. It's a classic good vs. evil fantasy tale, but one filled with mythology, emotional depth, and a surprising amount of mystery and philosophy, especially in its later entries. Nintendo clearly sees the cinematic potential here, especially after the wild success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie , which pulled in over $1.3 billion at the global box office. With Zelda, there's an opportunity to go deeper, less slapstick, more epic quest. What do you think about Schafer taking on the role of Princess Zelda?
