Pune passport office to hold special tatkal drive today

Pune: The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Pune will organise a special tatkaal passport drive today at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) to provide earlier appointment slots to applicants with urgent passport needs. "As part of the ministry of external affairs' initiative to make passport appointments available at an earlier date, we have released additional Tatkaal appointments for Saturday," said Pune regional passport officer Arjun Deore. The tatkaal scheme has stricter eligibility criteria and requires additional documentation compared to regular applications. We strongly advise applicants to carefully read the tatkaal advisory and tatkaal undertaking before appearing for their appointments," he said. The passport office has issued a comprehensive list of mandatory original documents that applicants must carry. "Under Section 5 of the Passports Act 1967 and Rule 5 of the Passports Rules 1980, the Passport Authority may conduct necessary enquiries and require additional information or documents for proper disposal of applications," Dr Deore explained. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Key documents include QR code birth certificates mentioning Aadhaar numbers, Class 10 matriculation passing certificates, latest complete eAadhaar with scannable QR codes, PAN cards with holograms, voter IDs with hologram stickers, and driving licenses. The passport office has strictly prohibited the use of "smart ID cards" - plastic versions of official documents printed by private entities. "Aadhaar is not accepted as date of birth proof. Cut-out Aadhaar cards and smart ID cards printed on plastic by private stationery shops will not be accepted," Deore said. Applicants have been advised to download mAadhaar and DigiLocker mobile applications before visiting the PSK. "Before submitting online applications and visiting PSK, applicants must fetch their birth certificates, Aadhaar, Class 10 certificates and other documents on these apps to verify authenticity," said Dr Deore. He clarified that only DigiLocker-issued documents shared during online application submission would be accepted, while documents merely uploaded to DigiLocker Drive would not be treated as authentic. The passport officer also advised applicants to scan QR codes on supporting documents using DigiLocker and mAadhaar apps before their PSK visit to ensure document verification goes smoothly. For minor applicants, additional requirements include duly filled Annexure D with both parents' consent and both parents' original passports.

More than 9000 appointments have already been issued by RRBs in first quarter of this financial year. Conducting CBTs for RRB exams is a huge exercise requiring lot of planning and co-ordination. RRBs have recently taken the initiative to allot exam centres closer to candidates' places of residence, with special preference given to female and PwBD candidates. This requires enlisting more exam centers and garnering more human resources to conduct the exam in a fair and transparent manner. With 12 notifications already issued for 1,08,324 vacancies since 2024 as per the annual calendar published by RRBs, another more than 50,000 appointments will be on offer in next financial year 2026-27. To increase the fairness of exam, E-KYC based Aadhar authentication has been used to authenticate identity of candidates for the first time in such large-scale exams achieving more than 95 per cent success. Jammers are now being deployed 100 per cent across all exam centers of RRBs to eliminate scope of cheating through electronic devices. Meanwhile, West Central Railway, Bhopal, has introduced a new method for verifying the identity of passengers using the mAadhaar mobile application, as per the latest guidelines issued by the Railway Board. The move aims to curb unauthorised travel and prevent misuse of fake Aadhaar cards or tickets booked under someone else's name. Verify Aadhaar via app, act on fake ids used for travel: Railway Ministry

Ticket checking staff will authenticate passengers' Aadhaar IDs in real-time using the mAadhar application developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India, the Railway Ministry said in an official communication to all zones. The ministry said that the initiative has been taken after instances of individuals staying unauthorisedly in India with fake or forged Aadhaar cards and using them as identity proof for various purposes, including employment and travel, have been brought to its notice. "In order to curb impersonation and misuse of Aadhar Card, it is imperative to strengthen identity verification mechanisms. TC (Ticket checking) staff must check and verify Passenger IDs at random on every trip," the Railway Ministry said in the letter addressed to the Principal Chief Commercial Managers. It noted, "The mAadhaar application, developed by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is useful for easy verification. The App provides several features, including QR code-based verification, which enables reliable and paperless identity validation." According to the Ministry, upon scanning the QR code on an Aadhaar card, the app displays key identity information such as photograph, Aadhaar number, name, gender, date of birth and address, thereby facilitating real-time verification of the authenticity of the document. "This application works in offline mode also. This application might serve as a useful tool to curb impersonation and misuse of Aadhaar Card," the circular said. Urging the zones to sensitise the ticket checking staff to download and use the mAadhaar App (available for free on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store) on their mobile phones, the letter said this app should also be used to verify the "genuineness of contractual onboard staff e.g. OBHS (on-board housekeeping services), Catering etc. travelling in the train". "In the event any such forged or fake Aadhaar card is suspected, the matter should be promptly reported to the RPF/local Police/GRP for necessary action," it added. According to the Aadhar Act, if a person impersonates his/her ID card or procures it fraudulently, he or she can face imprisonment as well as fines.
