(Video) Nora Ariffin Clarifies 'Sinaran' Royalty Dispute; No Intention To Affect Sheila Majid's Concert

If you're from Malaysia, you've likely heard of the classic Malay pop hit, 'Sinaran'. Unfortunately, Sheila Majid's hit song is now the subject of a royalties battle involving singer and actress Nora Ariffin. The singer recently held a press conference at the Music Authors' Copyright Protection Bhd (MACP) premises in Solaris Dutamas to speak about her previous statement about her late husband's unpaid royalties. Nora's late husband, Johan Nawawi, was a songwriter and composer whose work spanned 200 songs, including Sheila Majid's 1986 hit 'Sinaran'. Johan passed away in 2017 from a heart attack. However, Nora recently revealed that Johan never received the royalties payment he was supposed to receive for 'Sinaran' and other songs. Nora claimed that her late husband only received RM60 for his work on the iconic song, which was his initial payment for the song's usage upon its release in 1986. She argued that various music publishers owed her husband money for using his works across various platforms. According to the 52-year-old, she had spent the last five years contacting several music publishers listed as rights holders of Johan's works, hoping to receive the royalties. However, to this day, contract copies and royalty statements from these music publishers have not been provided. She's now hoping the music publishers can settle the royalties issue, believing that Johan's income as a songwriter could help fund her children's education. At the same time, Nora emphasised that 'Sinaran' singer Sheila Majid has no involvement in this issue. She also said she had no intentions to be the 'joykiller' of the singer's upcoming concert, which takes place on 8th November 2025 (Saturday). Instead, the mother of 4 clarified that she's taking action against music publishers to defend the rights of her children as heir to Johan's income. We hope everything goes well for Nora and her family, and may they receive the royalties that Johan deserves. Listen to what the singer has to say about the issue: Sources: mStar, New Straits Times

While she didn't name him outright, the 34-year-old singer revealed that the person in question is the father of actress Nabila Huda – who is none other than Datuk Amy Search, 66. The incident occurred during a concert rehearsal on Thursday (July 10), when Shila was unexpectedly scolded on stage. She later took to Instagram to share her side of the story, saying she felt unsafe and subsequently filed a police report. Police have since recorded a statement from Amy. According to mStar – The Star 's Malay-language portal, the investigations revealed that Amy's actions stemmed from dissatisfaction with Shila, who was accused of meddling in his family matters. Shila said she was shocked by the outburst, especially given her familiarity with Amy over the years. 'In the 17 years I've known him in the industry, he's never been like this,' she shared in an InstaStory on Monday. 'I'm sorry I couldn't name him openly with all the cameras in front of me last night (Sunday) – it made the situation worse,' she added. Nabila's name was also dragged into the controversy after she posted a video allegedly 'mocking' a woman whose behaviour was said to have never changed. However, Shila said she had absolutely no involvement in the alleged conflict between Amy's wife, Datin Nourish Hassan, and his daughter, Nabila. 'When people say I'm disturbing someone else's family, that's completely untrue and baseless,' she said in an interview on Saturday. Shila explained that her support for Nabila was not an act of meddling in the family's affairs, but rather a show of empathy towards a fellow industry peer going through a similar experience. On Sunday, Shila said she is open to reconciling with Amy and resolving the conflict between them. However, Shila added that any effort to mend the situation would only happen if Amy shows a positive change in attitude. "To be honest, I'm in a difficult place (to make peace). It's not that I'm being egotistical or unwilling to reconcile – absolutely not. "I just want to see a change (from Amy). (Video) 'Is That Malaysian Idol Saiful?': Netizens Question Singer's Gender Identity Following Viral Post

When entering a televised national singing competition, even if you don't win, you can still gain a certain level of fame simply by being a contestant on the reality programme. That being said, it's also natural for fans to wonder what those former contestants have been doing after all these years, if they haven't been active in the industry. You can imagine many were surprised when one Malaysian Idol contestant went viral recently for their gender identity. Over the long weekend, TikTok user Patricia Porsild posted a video that appeared to show a karaoke session during the Gawai celebration. Although the uploader did not reveal the identity of the singer, many recognised her as Saiful Safrin from Malaysian Idol. What also made the performer's identity clear was the fact that she was heard singing her own song, 'Ku Juga Mencintai Dirimu'. The TikTok user later confirmed that it was indeed Saiful Safrin by liking comments from netizens who had correctly guessed the singer's identity. As expected, the video went viral, with many wondering what had happened to the former Malaysian Idol contestant — and whether they had indeed transitioned. Shortly after the clip was posted, Saiful, who reportedly now goes by Saifulina, responded to the comments they had been receiving. According to Gempak, the singer said that the backlash would eventually subside: 'Whenever I receive criticism from netizens, I just pray for the best. Everyone has their flaws; we don't know how our story ends. People will only see the bad side but refuse to acknowledge what really matters,' she stated. She also spoke to mStar, revealing that she had been struggling with her gender identity even before competing on Malaysian Idol. This isn't the first time Saifulina has made headlines regarding her possible transition. Back in 2017, the singer clarified that she still identified as male after a photo of her went viral. It's clear that she has come a long way since then, now that she has chosen to disregard what others think of her.
