Lofree Launches Its Low-Profile Flow 2 Keyboard On Kickstarter
The new Lofree Flow 2 keyboard is a styling low-profile design and is available as 68-key, 84-key or ... More 100 key layouts. This is the 100 key version with full row of function keys and a numeric keypad for spreadsheet jockeys. A few years back, a startup called Lofree launched a new low-profile mechanical keyboard. The Flow was aimed at Mac users and had a sleek layout. Lofree was founded by Tim Chu, a designer with more than 20 years of experience in consumer electronics. When Chu's Flow keyboard hit the market, it was an instant success thanks to its stylish design with low-profile mechanical switches. The original Lofree Flow made Apple's Magic Keyboard look rather ordinary. Now Lofree has announced the successor to Fl0w. The new Flow 2 keyboard is launching on Kickstarter and builds on many of the innovations contained in the original Flow. The new Flow 2 will be available in gray and silver finishes and with a choice of 68, 84 or 100-key layouts. There's a Flow 2 model to suit most people's preferences depending on their available desk space and whether they need a numeric keypad. Refined Texture And Appearance The new and improved Flow 2 now has keys with a more tactile feel. The keyboard's casing has a new and refined textured surface. It also now has interactive options and each key can be easily programmed and remapped using the VIA configurator. This is very a custom keyboard with an off-the-peg price. Despite its slender proportions, the Lofree Flow 2 has multiple layers to make it sound and feel ... More just as the designers wanted. The silver version of the Flow 2 is available with a choice of Surfer Linear or Void Silent Linear switches. Users can choose between a silent keyboard for use in a busy office or a keyboard with a slightly louder sound with a more tactile typing action. The gray version of new Lofree Flow 2 has Pulse tactile switches as standard which are suitable for anyone who prefers a keyboard with a little more clack when typing. Both variations of the Flow 2 have hot-swappable, low-profile switches that can be easily changed or upgraded to give the keyboard an alternative typing style. Milled From Single Block Of Aluminum The Lofree Flow 2's case is crafted from a solid billet of high-grade aluminum, CNC-milled to form a unibody construction that gives the keyboard a cleaner and more minimalist look than the original Flow. The texture is created from #205 grit anodized aluminum that has a smooth surface with an ultra fine texture for durability and a modern appearance. The Lofree Flow 2 keyboard has new and redesigned switches like the Void Silent Linear ones user ... More here. The switches are hot-swappable and also have new light diffuser to help the white LED backlights shine brightly through the shine-through keycaps. The Flow 2's keycaps have also been upgraded and are now made from a high-purity PBT material that's Lofree says is more resistant to developing a shine that comes from long-term use. The keycaps are a double-shot construction instead of dye-sublimation printing. The legends are shine through, enabling the backlights to clearly illuminate each keycap. The profile has also been redesigned to provide a better fingertip fit for a more comfortable typing experience. The hot-swappable switches used in the Flow 2 include high-quality diffusers that improve the transmission of light from the white LED backlights on each switch. This provides improved illumination for the shine-through keycaps, ensuring the legends can be clearly identified, even in a dark editing suite. The switches have an improved tactile feeddback and come with actuation force set at 40g on both the linear and tactile versions. Thanks to higher precision in the manufacturing process, the switches have smaller tolerances which means less friction and smoother key travel. On the right side of the Lofree Flow 2 keyboard there is a touch sensitive slider for controlling ... More volume and screen brightness. New Side Touch Bar On the right edge of the Lofree Flow 2 there's a touch slider that can be adjusted simply by running a fingertip up and down its length. The slider can be used to adjust the computer's volume level and screen brightness if using an Apple display, iMac or MacBook. It's a faster and easier than using function keys. For connecting to the host device, the Flow 2 offers 2.4GHz RF mode, three Bluetooth channels and USB-C wired connectivity. The Flow 2 comes with a 2.4GHz wireless dongle which has a lower latency than Bluetooth, making it suitable for gaming or typing at high speeds. Lofree also includes Windows and macOS modifier keycaps. Finally, the Flow 2 is now fully compatible with VIA firmware which means every key can be remapped and programmed with commands and macros to suit the user's workflow. The keyboard's firmware can be updated using Google's Chrome browser and a visit to the VIA web-based configurator. The components that go up to make the new Lofree Flow 2 keyboard. The new Lofree Flow 2 mechanical keyboard launches on Kickstarter on July 10, 2025. Retail prices range from $189 to $209 for the larger layouts. However, discounts of up to 40% are available on the Kickstarter page. Both the Gray and Silver versions of the Lofree Flow 2 keyboard are available with 68, 84 and 100 ... More key layouts.

Dublin-anchored Lynskey Engineering to be snapped up by German giant
German engineering giant Dussmann has agreed to acquire Irish-headquartered mechanical and electrical specialist Lynskey Engineering for an undisclosed price. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval and was notified to the competition watchdog on Wednesday, is expected to be completed in the third quarter, the Berlin-headquartered company said in a statement on Thursday morning. The purchase price is confidential, the firm said. Lynskey generated an annual turnover of more than €57 million, according to its most recently available set of accounts, and currently employs around 120 people across the group. Based on the Kylemore Road in Dublin 10, Lynskey specialises in mechanical building services and electrical engineering. It has delivered projects for multinationals including Kerrygold-maker Ornua at its facility in Mitchelstown, Cork, as well as Penneys owner Primark, and LinkedIn, according to its website. READ MORE Dussmann, which reported annual revenues in excess of €3 billion in 2024, first entered the Irish market in 2019 with the acquisition of STS Group, a Waterford-based firm. Sean McElligott, Lynskey's managing director and controlling shareholder, said the deal presents the Irish firm with an 'excellent opportunity' growth. He said: 'Our clients will continue to enjoy the same level of superior service provided by our team, delivering complex technical mechanical projects within time and on budget, and will, post-acquisition, also benefit from the increased scale and service capability we can offer as part of a circa €3.3 billion turnover group. 'Similarly, our employees will find increased opportunities provided by the ambition and support of Dussmann to grow our business further.' The deal will see Lynskey join Dussmann's technical solutions division, which incorporates a number of different services across the life cycle of factories and other facilities like data centres, from design to installation and technical maintenance. Stephan Possekel, managing director at Dussmann Technical Solutions, commented on the planned acquisition, said the German firm has already worked closely with Lynskey on several projects in the data centre sector. 'Lynskey's portfolio of mechanical services seamlessly complements STS's electrical engineering services', he said. Oliver Finckh, chief technical officer and managing director, said: 'The acquisition of Lynskey will enable us to offer both main trades – mechanical as well as electrical services on complex large-scale projects, thus being a single source provider of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services.' Lynskey was advised by Anglesea Corporate Finance.

Why jump-hour watches are making a comeback: IWC pioneered the earliest model in 1885, now Jaeger-LeCoultre and Louis Vuitton are weighing in – and Watch Ho & Co x Zentier's pieces sold out in seconds
Jump-hour watches might be a throwback, but in 2025 they're having a full-on renaissance. Forget traditional ticking hands: these mechanical marvels tell the time with numbers that 'jump' forwards every hour through a tiny window called a guichet. Quirky, precise and oddly satisfying, jump hours are the vintage-inspired, high-craft answer to the screen generation's love for digital clarity. The idea dates back to 1656, when the Campani brothers built a clock for Pope Alexander VII that showed rotating numerals when the openworked dial was illuminated from behind by an oil lamp or candle – silent and visible in the dark. But it was Josef Pallweber who, in 1883, gave us the jump hour as we know it today, using discs instead of hands. IWC picked up the idea and ran with it, releasing its Pallweber pocket watches by 1885. A century later, the maison revived the format with the 2018 Pallweber Edition 150 Years – a limited run that redefined digital-mechanical cool. Advertisement Jaeger-LeCoultre's Reverso Tribute Nonantième Enamel adds a cosmic flair to its design. Photo: Handout Meanwhile, Cartier's 1928 Tank à Guichets distilled the concept into art deco minimalism: no hands, just windows with sharp numerals. Collectors clearly like the design – timepiece collectors' club Watch Ho & Co. recently chose the Zentier Lapis Sauté as its first ever collaborative piece, in two limited edition runs with malachite and lapis lazuli dials. 'Jump-hour watches offer a fascinating and unconventional way to tell time that feels fresh and exciting,' says Watch Ho & Co co-founder Jackie Ho, 'For us watch geeks there's something truly special about watching the hour jump forward. It's like a mini performance on your wrist which can make you jump with excitement. It attracts those who seek something different from the usual two- or three-hand displays. It's not just about telling time; it's about enjoying the 'party trick'. This unique feature highlights the craftsmanship involved along with the atypical dial and case design.' A Tank à Guichet watch displayed at the Cartier stand during the opening day of Watches and Wonders on April 1. Photo: AFP Ho worked with Zentier founder Morten Loewe to develop a piece with a precious stone dial, stepped bezel and vintage size 36mm case to house the jump-hour piece. 'The vintage and retro design really resonated with me,' Ho added. 'Especially since we both share a love for vintage and neo-vintage Audemars Piguet.' The first run of 88 pieces for the malachite dial sold out in under a minute. The subsequent lapis lazuli edition was inspired by Mount Fuji, and met with similar success. 'Morten deserves all the credit for creating such an incredible piece and for being open to my many ideas to refine the Sauté,' Ho says. 'The name Sauté, which means a jump or leap in dance parlance, perfectly captures the grace and movement of the timepiece, especially fitting for Morten, a former World DanceSport Champion.' A Symbol of New York City's Ascent Is Making Its Final Exit
Riding in one of New York City's oldest manual elevators is like attending a steampunk ballet. The choreographed dance of cables, pulleys and counter-weights shakily lifting the cab skyward is narrated by a mechanical symphony of Clunk. Clunk. Screeeeech. Shik-shik-shik-shik. PLONK.
