Blencathra hiker dies in fall at Sharp Edge in Cumbria
A man in his 20s has died after falling from a popular mountain ridge hikers had been traversing Sharp Edge on Blencathra, in Cumbria, when one of the group fell to the north side of the Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) was called to the scene on Saturday shortly after 13:30 BST and was helped by volunteers from Penrith."Our thoughts and condolences go to the man's friends and family," a spokesperson said.
Two groups of volunteers were involved in the search, with 19 from Keswick and 11 from Penrith Mountain Rescue Team."One team made their way to the casualty whilst the other went to assist the rest of the group off the ridge," the spokesperson said."Sadly, the man did not survive the fall."A coastguard helicopter was also dispatched to the Police confirmed the man's death and said a file would be prepared for the coroner.
