Fans slammed Gong Jun's management over his minor injury
17 Jun - Fans of Gong Jun (aka Simon Gong) has recently slammed the actor's management, following the minor injury he sustained while filming a variety show in a foreign country. The issue sparked last week, when it was revealed that the actor was accidentally injured during a game session while filming the show "Earth's Fresh Guest Lineup" (translated title) in Italy. It was reported that Simon was scratched on the upper part of his eyelid near the eyebrow, almost injuring his eye. However, it took the management some time to confirm the injury, telling fans that they had to wait for information and details from Italy. "There is a time difference and they are still sleeping over there," the management stated. The response sparked anger among netizens, stating that not only were they slow in responding to fans' enquiry, it also meant that Simon did not have a team with him in a foreign country. "Letting him go abroad to work alone is too irresponsible," said one netizen. "Other guests of the show have managers and assistants with them. Why don't you? Please explain," said another. Soon after, the company posted another update, saying that Simon had a minor scratch when he dodged during a game. "The medical staff on the scene handled it properly as soon as possible, and communicated with the programme team as soon as the incident happened to prepare emergency measures. He is now fine", the company stated. They also assured that "professional medical staff" are there throughout the recording of the programme. (Photo Source: WJ)

Jane Zhang addresses criticism on "ugly" concert poster
16 Jun - Jane Zhang has recently decided to address the issue regarding her concert poster, following the backlash it received from fans. As reported on Sohu, netizens recently criticised the poster of Jane's upcoming tour, "Chase", with many saying that the poster was "too ugly". It prompted a staff member to scold fans over the criticisms and a subsequent apology from Jane's studio for the staff's behaviour. On 13 June, Jane decided to address the criticism against the poster, saying, "The tour is called "Chase." Electric light and flint symbolise speed, a speed I desire but have never quite reached. But there's another kind of speed. Quantity. Every single thing I've accomplished over the past 20 years is the speed I already possess." "I used to have this habit of taking a picture of the veins in my eyes with my phone after pulling an all-nighter. The veins makeup effect on my eyes and forehead is what I wanted to do many years ago but never did. It is drawn by myself according to the real veins on my face. I guess it's "proof" of the effort I've put in over the past 20 years. Otherwise, how else could I have caught up to the person I am today?" she continued. As for the poster, which many said to be "scary", Jane said that it was how she interpreted her 20-year career in the industry. "Maybe I'm not someone with a strong sense of aesthetic "beauty" and it's totally okay if some people don't like it. I don't think the poster's direction is conventionally beautiful, but that doesn't stop me from thinking it's cool. After all, it represents 20 years of my journey. Every single thing I've completed is a report card I earned with my heart. I still feel proud," she added. However, Jane said that she did shoot a new poster as her fans' happiness still matters. At the same time, she will still keep the original version of the poster as an alternate. (Photo Source: Jane IG, SINA)

Cai fan stall charges boy $17 for 1-meat-1-veg meal; mother says son is too shy to ask why it is too much
Wendy Ng FB SINGAPORE: A mother has expressed outrage on social media after a cai fan stall near Yew Tee MRT station charged her son a hefty $17 for a simple meal. Taking to the Friends of Yew Tee Facebook group, Wendy Ng said her son patronised the stall on Monday (June 2). She shared, 'This cai fan stall next to the MRT station sold my son this afternoon a fish tail and some toufu and rice and charged him $17.' Ms Ng added, 'My son is shy and didn't find out the price before paying and dared not ask why so much. This is too much. I hope all of you don't buy – ask before paying and reject if too expensive.' Some netizens reacting to the post online felt that the meal could have been expensive because of the kind of fish the boy had ordered. One netizen said, 'Red snapper tail ranges from $15 onwards, depending on size. Haven't added cooking and gross profit margin. Could be cheaper at wholesale and whole fish. Better advise your kid not to think fish is cheap. 'Sometimes kids are used to home-cooked food, and never realise it could be so expensive. Wait till kena cod fish, then can really cry.' Others, however, asserted that the price was too high, with some calling the incident 'daylight robbery'. Some netizens also said that the same cai fan stall had been flagged in the past for charging high prices. In March 2024, the stall was featured in a Shin Min Daily News after a diner expressed dissatisfaction about being charged $8.20 for a meal consisting of two meat dishes and one vegetable dish.

Pedestrian struck by right-turning car at Upper Thomson junction; police investigating
SINGAPORE: A pedestrian was hit by a right-turning car while crossing at the junction of Marymount Road and Upper Thomson Road Wednesday afternoon (May 28), sparking public concern over road safety and driver attentiveness. The Singapore Police Force confirmed that a report had been lodged and that investigations are currently ongoing. No further details were released on the condition of the pedestrian. The incident came to public attention after a video was shared in the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, which often posts footage of traffic incidents across the island. According to the group, the accident occurred at approximately 1:16pm. In the video, a pedestrian wearing a black top and holding an umbrella is seen walking on the designated crossing when a car, making a right turn, fails to slow down and strikes the individual. The footage has since garnered widespread attention online. The video triggered a flurry of comments from netizens, with many condemning the driver's apparent lack of caution. 'Don't people look at the side of the road when they turn now?' wrote one commenter. Another asked, 'Is the driver looking at his phone or navigation?' Others expressed disbelief, questioning how the driver could miss seeing someone with an umbrella in broad daylight. However, not all responses were critical. A few commenters suggested that the driver's view might have been momentarily blocked—possibly by a roadside bollard or other visual obstruction. Some also reminded pedestrians to remain vigilant, with one noting, 'I always look both ways even when it's my right of way.'
