After ChatGPT, Perplexity now has a $200 month subscription plan: Here's what you get
Following in ChatGPT maker OpenAI's footsteps, Perplexity has launched its very own $200 monthly subscription plan. Called Perplexity Max, the AI startup says it ïs their most advanced subscription tier to date. In a blog post, Perplexity said that the new $200 subscription is for those who 'demand limitless AI productivity and immediate access to the newest products and features.' As part of the company's most expensive tier, you get unlimited access to Labs, the company's newest tool that aims to enhance user productivity. Introduced earlier this year, Perplexity says 'using Labs is like having a team' and that users can create spreadsheets, web apps, and dashboards by performing 10 minutes or more of 'self-supervised work' using a wide range of tools like deep web browsing, code execution, and chart and image creation. The $200 Perplexity Max plan also includes access to advanced AI models like OpenAI's o3-pro and Anthropic's Claude Opus 4. Subscribers also get priority support as part of the new plan. It also offers early access to Perplexity features and products like Comet, the company's upcoming Chromium-based agentic web browser that can also help automate certain tasks. Perplexity says the Max subscription is designed for professionals, content creators, business strategists and academic researchers. The company is also planning to launch an enterprise version of the Max plan. Pereplexity Max is currently available on the web and iOS, but there is no news on when it will be coming to Android. Apart from the new subscription plan, Perplexity also offers a Pro plan, which, like ChatGPT, is priced at $20 a month alongside an Enterprise Pro plan that costs $40 per month. Last month, the company introduced a new AI-powered video generation feature that allows users to create videos on X. Recently, rumour had it that both Apple and Meta were interested in buying the startup to get an edge in the AI race.

OpenAI just made 5 major moves — what it means for you and ChatGPT
OpenAI has had a whirlwind week, from unveiling a new top-tier model to forming a surprising partnership with Mattel. Whether you're a power user of ChatGPT or just trying to keep up with the AI arms race, here are the 5 biggest OpenAI updates you need to know. On June 10, OpenAI quietly rolled out o3-pro, a new version of its o3 series focused on high-performance reasoning. Mostly for serious developers and power users, the upgraded model is now available to ChatGPT Pro and Team users, with Enterprise and Education accounts getting access next week. It's also live via the API — but with premium, token-based pricing. So, what's the big deal? Early feedback and benchmarks suggest o3-pro is significantly better at logic-heavy tasks, such as math, programming and long-context analysis. Think of it this way, if GPT-4o was built for fast, real-time interaction, o3-pro appears tuned for deeper thinking. While casual ChatGPT users may not have a use for this now, as these models continue to evolve, I have no doubt that this model will eventually become available to lower-tier users, such as ChatGPT Plus. OpenAI had promised to release its first open-weights model in June — essentially, a version of its technology that developers can inspect, use and even host themselves. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. This would have marked a significant shift from OpenAI's traditional closed model approach and offered an alternative to rivals like Meta's LLaMA or Mistral. However, this week, CEO Sam Altman confirmed that the open-weight launch is delayed until later this summer, tweeting that the team had discovered something 'unexpected and quite amazing.' What that means is anyone's guess, but the delay signals a possible upgrade or strategic change to the planned release. What are open weights, anyway?Open-weight models are AI systems whose internal parameters are made public. That means developers can run, fine-tune or study them, offering more transparency and customization compared to closed models like GPT-4o. OpenAI's upcoming release could be a complete game-changer for users focused on using the chatbot primarily for research. OpenAI continues to push ChatGPT beyond simple chat. This week, the Projects feature received a major upgrade, with enhanced tools for research, planning and organization. Users can now build long-term projects within ChatGPT using memory, voice input, and file uploads. A new mobile model selector also lets you switch between GPT-4o and other models on the fly. It's part of OpenAI's broader vision to turn ChatGPT into your always-on productivity assistant. In an unexpected twist, OpenAI signed a cloud computing deal with Google, one of its biggest rivals in AI. This move follows OpenAI's existing partnerships with Microsoft and Amazon, suggesting a growing need for diverse infrastructure to power its future ambitions. In a move no one saw coming, OpenAI is teaming up with Mattel to bring AI to iconic brands like Barbie and Hot Wheels. The goal seems to be AI-powered toys that are smart, interactive and age-appropriate. The first products of this kind are expected before the end of the year. Both companies have emphasized a focus on privacy, security, and safety, and the announcement hints at OpenAI's growing interest in consumer-facing hardware and taking ChatGPT beyond the screen. ChatGPT experienced a widespread global outage on June 10, lasting several hours and affecting users across platforms. The service has since recovered, but the incident highlighted how dependent users have become on OpenAI's tools and the risks of relying on a single assistant. If you are a ChatGPT user and haven't made the leap to other chatbots, now might be the time to try the best ChatGPT alternatives. OpenAI is moving at breakneck speed as it fine-tunes its smartest models, enhancing productivity features, striking unexpected partnerships and preparing for a massive funding round. Whether you're a casual ChatGPT user or a developer tracking AI's evolution, the message is clear that this is only the beginning of what's to come.

OpenAI rolls out o3-pro for ChatGPT Pro and Team users: What's new and how it compares to the older models
OpenAI has officially launched o3-pro, a new artificial intelligence model the company is hailing as its most advanced to date. The latest addition to the o3 family is now available to ChatGPT Pro and Team subscribers, with rollouts for Enterprise and educational users expected in the coming days. The o3-pro model, designed to handle complex reasoning tasks with greater precision, is intended to enhance performance across a range of professional fields, including science, education, mathematics, programming, and writing. OpenAI says the model surpasses its predecessor, o1-pro, in multiple domains—both in internal evaluations and user preference tests. In a statement, OpenAI confirmed that o3-pro will also be accessible via its API. The company has set the pricing at $20 per million input tokens and $80 per million output tokens. The announcement follows a recent 80 per cent cost reduction in o3 token usage, a move aimed at broadening access to the platform's latest capabilities. According to internal testing by OpenAI, human reviewers consistently favoured o3-pro over previous models. It was preferred in 66.7 per cent of personal writing evaluations and in 62.7 per cent of coding tasks. Reviewers also rated it higher in areas such as clarity, adherence to instructions, and the depth of its responses. The model is equipped with advanced tools that allow it to perform more sophisticated tasks, including web browsing, data file analysis, Python code execution, and visual reasoning. It also makes use of user memory for more tailored interactions. However, these functionalities can result in slightly longer response times compared to earlier models—a trade-off OpenAI suggests is worthwhile for users prioritising accuracy over speed. Despite the advancements, the company acknowledges a few current limitations. The model does not support image generation, and temporary chats within ChatGPT are currently disabled due to a technical issue. Moreover, the Canvas workspace feature remains unavailable when using o3-pro. OpenAI says o3-pro has demonstrated strong results in internal benchmark assessments, though comprehensive comparisons with rival AI models have not yet been published.

OpenAI releases AI reasoning model o3-pro
SAN FRANCISCO, June 10 (Xinhua) -- OpenAI on Tuesday announced the launch of o3-pro, the company's most advanced reasoning artificial intelligence (AI) model to date. O3-pro is a version of OpenAI's o3, a reasoning model first introduced earlier this year. Reasoning models solve problems step by step, making them more reliable in fields such as physics, mathematics, and computer programming. The o3-pro model is available starting Tuesday for ChatGPT Pro and Team users, replacing the previous o1-pro model. Enterprise and Edu users will gain access the following week, according to OpenAI. O3-pro is also now live in OpenAI's developer API as of Tuesday afternoon. The model is priced at 20 U.S. dollars per million input tokens and 80 dollars per million output tokens in the API. One million input tokens are approximately equivalent to 750,000 words. "In expert evaluations, reviewers consistently preferred o3-pro over o3 in every tested category -- especially in key areas like science, education, programming, business, and writing assistance," OpenAI stated. "Reviewers also rated o3-pro consistently higher for clarity, comprehensiveness, instruction-following, and accuracy." O3-pro has access to a range of tools, including web browsing, file analysis, visual reasoning, Python execution, and personalized memory-based responses, according to the company. In internal testing, o3-pro achieved impressive results in widely used AI benchmarks. On AIME 2024, which assesses mathematical ability, o3-pro outperformed Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro. It also surpassed Anthropic's Claude 4 Opus on GPQA Diamond, a benchmark for PhD-level science knowledge, the company reported.
