Man shot and killed by police after injuring officer with a knife: RCMP
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after police fatally shot a man who RCMP said injured an officer with a knife in eastern Alberta on Sunday. Three Lac La Biche RCMP officers were responding to a disturbance at a local residence just before 12 p.m. when a confrontation occurred, RCMP said in a news release. RCMP said a man attacked an officer with a knife, resulting in one of the officers shooting the suspect. Police said life-saving efforts were attempted, but the suspect died at the scene. The news release said the officer who was attacked has been discharged from hospital after being treated for his injuries. The Alberta RCMP said it immediately initiated an internal review process. ASIRT, the province's main police oversight agency, will also investigate the incident.

Pinecrest officer hurt in off-road vehicle street takeover on U.S. 1
A Pinecrest police officer is recovering in the hospital after he was injured Saturday night. Police say they got a call about an off-road vehicle trying to take over U.S. 1 around 9 p.m. When officers arrived, there were several vehicles involved. "This was a large group," said Pinecrest Police public information officer Ivan Osores. "There was approximately six or seven off-road vehicles. Each one transporting three to four passengers and the driver." As the vehicles sped away, one of them hit an officer, pinning him to his patrol car. That officer shot at the vehicle but did not hit the driver, police said. Officers chased the vehicles and were able to stop them on Krome Avenue near 167th Street. Pinecrest police said suspects are in custody, and the officer's injuries are not life-threatening.

Phoenix police officer hospitalized with broken bones after fight with suspect
A Phoenix police officer was hospitalized May 30 following an altercation in south Phoenix that left her with broken bones. The officer responded to reports of a person banging on the windows of a business near 19th and Southern avenues, scaring patrons inside, Sgt. Brian Bower, a Phoenix police spokesperson, told reporters at a news conference. The man began an "active fight" with the officer when she informed him that police were investigating the incident, Bower said. The man struck the officer in the head, and she fell to the ground, "not very responsive and bleeding," Bower said. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Bower described the officer as "young" with six years of service in the department and said she was being treated for broken bones in her lower leg. The man was taken into custody.
