Khorfakkan Municipality launches "Future Generations" summer prog
The summer program has four different parts, each run by different municipal departments. One part, called the "Engineer of the Future" program, is led by the Technical Affairs Department. In this program, students take part in fun workshops that make engineering concepts easier to understand and enrich their learning experience. Another part of the program is the "Future Inspector," organized by the Public Health Department. This involves field trips where students accompany municipal health inspection teams to various places, such as shops and restaurants. The goal is to teach participants the importance of public health and how it affects their community. Students also get to learn about farming in the "Little Farmer" program, supervised by the Department of Agriculture and Gardens. This part includes workshops and visits to important agricultural sites, where students discover both traditional and modern farming techniques, as well as how to care for palm trees. The aim is to instill a sense of appreciation for agriculture and the environment in younger generations. Lastly, the Municipal Operations and Inspection Department leads a program focused on public parking and beach safety. Students learn how to use parking spaces correctly and what the rules are. They also visit local beaches to see rescue teams in action, learning about their responsibilities and the equipment they use for safety. This hands-on experience helps students understand how to keep their community safe and encourages them to take responsibility for public safety. Overall, this summer program by Khorfakkan Municipality is designed to provide children with a fun and educational experience. It combines what they learn in school with real-world applications, helping to prepare them to be informed and responsible members of their community in fields like engineering, public health, and agriculture.

Roseman University Launches $10 Million Medical School Scholarship Campaign
HENDERSON, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Roseman University of Health Sciences has launched its $10 million scholarship campaign to support students at its new College of Medicine, following a successful kickoff event May 29 at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa. The "Rhythm of the Future" campaign addresses Nevada's critical physician shortage while reducing financial barriers for medical students. Nevada currently ranks 48th nationally in physician-to-patient ratio and faces a shortage of 2,500 physicians compared to the national average. "This is more than a campaign. It is a movement of generosity, of vision, and of shared responsibility," said Bryan Lindsey, campaign chair and Roseman Board of Trustees member. "The future of healthcare in Nevada depends on what we build together, and this scholarship fund will ensure that talent—not financial status—determines who gets to become a doctor." The campaign has already secured over $3 million in early commitments, including a $2 million gift from the Engelstad Family Foundation and $500,000 from an anonymous donor. Dr. Pedro "Joe" Greer Jr., founding dean of Roseman's College of Medicine, emphasized the urgency. "Nevada is 2,500 physicians short of the national average. That's not just a gap. That's a canyon," Greer said. "At Roseman, we are training doctors who will not only treat illness, but who will fight inequity and heal entire systems." Roseman's College of Medicine distinguishes itself through community-based learning programs including GENESIS and EMPOWERED, which place students in underserved communities from day one. The campaign coincides with Roseman University's 25th anniversary. Founded in Henderson in 1999 by Drs. Harry Rosenberg, Renee Coffman, and Charles Lacy with $15,000 of personal investment, the university now includes colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, and Medicine. "This scholarship campaign represents the next chapter in our mission—ensuring that every qualified student, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to become a healer," said Dr. Renee Coffman, president and co-founder. The College of Medicine, located at Roseman's Summerlin (Las Vegas) campus, received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education in February 2025 and will welcome its charter class of 60 students in July 2025. Scholarship contributions support tuition, fees, educational materials, and learning experiences. For information, visit or contact gmattox@

Orlando or Gainesville? Decision on where the Jaguars will play in 2027 won't come until October
The decision on where the Jacksonville Jaguars will play for the 2027 season will now be made in October, the team said. The team will play in either Orlando or Gainesville for one season while construction on the Stadium of the Future is finished up at EverBank Stadium. The Jaguars released a statement to Action News Jax on Thursday saying the proposals are 'still under review.' Advertisement Orange County Commissioners voted Tuesday, April 22, to give $11 million to bring Jaguars' home games in Orlando in 2027. Jaguars President Mark Lamping appeared on the Brent & Austen Show on the Action Sports Jax 24/7 network on the day of the NFL Draft, Thursday, April 24. Lamping said that it's important to the team to have a partnership with whoever owns the stadium where the Jags will play that season. He said that partnership already exists with the University of Florida. He said that Orlando leaders making the decision to commit the funding was the last step in being able to consider Orlando's proposal fully, removing any contingencies. Advertisement [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Lamping said with that piece in place from Orlando, the team was 'in a position to be able to submit our final analysis to the National Football League' of which city the team should play in. He said then that if the team couldn't make it in time for the May NFL owners' meetings, then it would be ready for the October meetings. Having the decision made at the October meeting, Lamping said, 'would be a little serendipity. It was at that same meeting a year ago that the NFL owners approved the stadium.' Once this review is completed, the recommendation will be considered by the appropriate NFL ownership committees, and if approved, brought forward to a vote of all NFL owners. 'It is our expectation that the matter will be considered at the NFL Owners' Meeting in October. The vote requires 75 percent NFL ownership approval to pass.'
