10 Most Overrated NBA Players In The Last 10 Years

10 Most Overrated NBA Players In The Last 10 Years originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Ladies and gentlemen, this is an unapologetic exposé on the NBA players of the last ten years who were given far more credit than they actually earned. Specifically, players who strutted as superstars but delivered nothing beyond box-score volume or fanfare. We have cut through the hype, scrutinized impact across playoffs, contracts, and peer perception, and built a ranking that's bold but frankly overdue. Let's unpack who was truly overrated and why their status has unraveled under pressure. 1. Ben Simmons From the moment he was hyped as the next LeBron James, Ben Simmons has lived under a burden of expectation he never came close to shouldering. Sure, he's a defensive disruptor and a pass-first giant, but that's only half the story. He refused to shoot from distance, crumbled under pressure (hello, 2021 playoff Game 7 no-dunk moment), and has turned into the most overrated No. 1 pick in decades. That fear of failure hasn't just cost him buckets, it's cost him credibility. And let's not sugarcoat it: Simmons' inability and apparent unwillingness to build even a basic jump shot have made him a non-factor in today's NBA. Possessing a $40M ceiling over the past few seasons but delivering sub-$10M impact? That's why scouts now whisper he's 'never again All-Star-level', a harsh label, but the truth stings. 2. Zion Williamson Zion Williamson carried monumental hype: Duke phenom, generational talent, yet the reality has been far less swish than the banner headlines. Fans forget he's only played 214 out of a possible 492 games in six years, a shocking figure. When healthy, yes, he had that thunderous low-post game. But the free-throw struggles, pedestrian defensive effort, and uneven lateral quickness expose a player more crispy highlight than a durable foundation. So far, he's felt like an All-Star in theory, not in practice. The Pelicans still hover in mediocrity, and the balloon of expectation deflates fast when the court lights come on and clutch moments arrive. We won't be surprised if the Pelicans pull the plug on a player who was supposed to be the face of the league by now. 3. Rudy Gobert Rudy Gobert's rim protection is elite, but elite only gets you so far. The man is essentially a glorified screen-setter when it comes to offense, limited in pick-and-rolls, and regularly a playoff liability. DPOY hardware (four trophies, in fact) may dazzle, but it hasn't fixed his shortcomings in perimeter defense or half-court rotations. And let's face it: even critics who love his interior presence say he 'can get played off the floor,' pointing to his struggles when opponents attack him outside the paint. If the game keeps shifting to pace-and-space, Gobert feels like a last-gen relic. 4. Paul George Paul George arrived in Philadelphia on the back of an eye-catching resume, nine All-Star nods, four All-Defensive honors, and playoff expectations that bordered on franchise-saver status. Instead? A $212 million contract that has so far felt more like an albatross than an asset. Despite the hype, his production has dipped dramatically: averaging just 16.2 PPG, his shooting and efficiency have cratered to career lows, all while Philly floundered with an uninspiring record and no cohesion around him. But it's more than the stats. George has publicly whined about boredom while playing center in Joel Embiid's stead, signaling a lack of seriousness on the court, something critic Bill Simmons called tone-deaf. Worse, he's now widely regarded as a poor trade asset, an aging star with a shaky availability record who disappoints under pressure. 5. Kyle Kuzma Kyle Kuzma's cameo as a Laker sweetheart feels like forever ago, but the narrative never caught up with reality. Career poor shooting splits and negative Advanced Box Plus/Minus numbers follow him like a bad tweet. When the Milwaukee Bucks acquired him, it was less about proven upside but more about salary-matching and hope, and that tells you everything. His recent playoff flop, zero stats in over 21 minutes, made fans and analysts alike gasp. Kuzma's game might produce flashes of scoring, but those are just that: flashes. He hasn't proven he can consistently lift winning teams, which is why even the tanking Washington Wizards were willing to pull the plug on him. 6. D'Angelo Russell D'Angelo Russell has that silky jumper and court swagger, but his efficiency numbers are troubling. True shooting and eFG% routinely under league average, and his scoring often takes precedence over winning outputs. Showtime? More like showboating. The hype train never stops, but veterans know the deal: take-your-turn scorers don't translate to playoff substance. His meteoric hot stretches don't hide the inconsistency. Yes, he can light it up, but a flash might not illuminate the path to a title. 7. Jordan Poole Jordan Poole's step-back threes are highlight-worthy, but the impact behind the splash is underwhelming. He ranked among the league's most overrated guards in an anonymous player poll, with teammates not fooled by 'Wizards flavor'. And when October games fade into January frost, his cold spells hit hard; ten points, then two, then eight… the rhythm never sticks. One night he's the hero; the next he's the ghost. The Wizards' experiment is less 'Poole Power' and more gamble, and so far, it's underdelivered. Hopefully, Poole can rediscover the form that once made him a key Warriors player with the New Orleans Pelicans. 8. Bradley Beal Bradley Beal's contract read like a max extension over the past few years, but that was a max extension of what he could provide. Phoenix paid for bursts of scoring he's delivered inconsistently, and yet even the front office now labels the move a flop. His numbers dipped into 'shadow of himself' territory, and playoff futility followed. All the buckets in the world don't matter if your contract handcuffs your team and your playoff resume is practically blank. That's the Beal equation: impressive paper stats, negligible team elevation. That is why the Suns bought him out, and the former All-Star hopes to correct the narrative about him with the stacked Los Angeles Clippers. 9. Russell Westbrook There was a time Russell Westbrook was a triple-double machine who could get numbers regardless of how the team performed. Now? He might have proven that he is a prime example of stats padding over substance and has been for years. Inefficient scoring, bloated usage rates, and a locker room reputation that screamed 'disruptive' rather than 'electric'. Even Denver's gamble to plug him in off the bench fell flat, he unsettled the rotation and didn't deliver enough to dull the concerns. The legend's endurance can't mask the awkwardness of an MVP turned awkward narrative footnote. We hope Russ can find a proper ending to his career because we haven't seen many stat-sheet stuffers better than him in NBA history. Is that all he will be remembered for? Most likely. 10. Kristaps Porzingis The Unicorn flashed All-Star potential in Washington and Dallas, but every season since, injuries and mismatches have derailed him. He never evolved into a pillar; just a rollercoaster with broken tracks. When you're one MRI away from disappearing for months, hype dies hard. The Boston Celtics were somehow able to extract whatever they could out of Kristaps Porzingis, enough to win the NBA title in the 2024 season, but he was back to his unhealthy ways last year. Being a missing piece to an NBA title (alongside Jrue Holiday) should wash away overrated concerns, but the big man simply cannot live up to his talents. His inconsistent availability makes him toxic for team-building. Flashy defense and three-point range are beautiful, but fantasy potential doesn't pay coaching story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 18, 2025, where it first appeared.

Paul Finebaum Names College Football Powerhouse That's 'Vastly Overrated'

Paul Finebaum Names College Football Powerhouse That's 'Vastly Overrated' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 college football season is getting closer to kickoff, and since no games have been played yet, the discussion has turned to speculation about which team will win the national championship. ESPN's Paul Finebaum was asked for his predictions, and he identified five teams he believes have a strong chance: the Clemson Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide. Notably absent from his list is the defending champion, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Last season, the Buckeyes claimed the national championship in an impressive fashion, defeating the Tennessee Volunteers, Oregon, Texas and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, all by double digits in the College Football Playoff. On "The Paul Finebaum Show," the SEC Network analyst expressed his skepticism about the Buckeyes' chances this season. "The team I do not like is Ohio State," Finebaum said. "I think they're vastly overrated." Ohio State is facing some challenges this season due to the loss of several key players from last year. Notable departures include quarterback Will Howard, defensive ends Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau, defensive tackles Tyleik Williams and Ty Hamilton, as well as defensive backs Lathan Ransom, Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock. Other major players not returning are linebacker Cody Simon, offensive tackles Donovan Jackson and Josh Fryar, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, and tight end Gee Scott Jr. Additionally, offensive linemen Josh Simmons and Rimington Trophy winner Seth McLaughlin have also departed the program. Although McLaughlin missed the end of the last season due to injury, all these players played crucial roles in Ohio State's national championship run. On the bright side, the Buckeyes are returning some of the best talent in college football: sophomore receiver Jeremiah Smith, who led the Big Ten with 1,315 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns, and senior defensive back Caleb Downs, a consensus All-American. Ohio State is in the midst of a quarterback battle, and it remains uncertain who will be throwing to Smith. The leading candidates for the starting position appear to be former five-star redshirt freshman Julian Sayin and redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz. The Buckeyes are looking to prove their critics wrong when they take on Texas at noon ET on Aug. 30 in Columbus, story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 23, 2025, where it first appeared.

I'm a travel agent - the world's most overrated tourist destination is like visiting a motorway petrol station

It can often be tricky when trying to find a new destination to discover. But a travel agent – who has been jet-setting around the world for the last 30 years - has revealed the places he wouldn't recommend anyone going to visit. Carlos Lavilla, who works for Turama, took to the Spanish holiday company's TikTok to warn the account's 29.7k followers of the 'five tourist destinations that, as a professional travel agent, [he] considers to be the most overrated', and that he 'doesn't usually recommend to [his] customers'. The country in fifth place, for Carlos, is Cape Verde – an archipelago, made up of 10 volcanic islands, in West Africa. Last year, Cape Verde welcomed a record 1.2 million tourists – but Carlos insists it's no replacement for Spain 's Canary Islands. Speaking in Spanish, he says: 'In my opinion, travelling to Cape Verde as an alternative to the Canary Islands is like buying a Fiat Panda thinking you're getting a Ferrari F40. 'No matter how you try to dress it up, there's simply no comparison.' In fourth place was Johannesburg - one of the largest cities in South Africa, and home to plenty of wildlife safaris, as well as the Apartheid Museum. Taking about Johannesburg, South Africa, Carlos says: 'You'll be able to say you were robbed in one of the ugliest cities on Earth' Although many tourists love it there, according to Statista, between 2022 and 2023, Johannesburg experienced more contact crime incidents than any other city – mainly consisting of common assaults. And it's the high crime rate that leaves a sour taste for Carlos, who sneers: 'You'll be able to say you were robbed in one of the ugliest cities on Earth.' Many will be surprised to hear that it's Hawaii in third place on Carlos' list. The reason? There are far 'more interesting' yet similar destinations, says Carlos. He continues: 'With a couple of honourable exceptions (which do exist), Hawaii is the ideal destination for an American retiree, over 70, who has a collection of shirts at home that he doesn't dare to wear anywhere else. 'If that's not your case, I assure you there are much more interesting and far less predictable alternatives.' Next up is South Korea, a country which is predicted to welcome more than 20 million tourists in 2025 – a record-breaking number. But Carlos says you shouldn't bother. He explains: 'South Korea is excessively expensive for what it offers. The treatment of foreign tourists leaves much to be desired. 'I find it bland, insipid, and rather sad. You may return home shrouded in a great depression.' The most overrated destination in the world, for Carlos, is Doha, Qatar – which welcomed a record-breaking 1.5 million international tourists in the first three months of 2025. Despite this, Carlos says visiting Doha is like visiting a 'petrol station in the middle of a motorway'. He adds: 'It's a place where you stop briefly to relieve yourself, grab a quick bite, rest for a few minutes, and then carry on. There's nothing more to it.'

Car expert reveals the top five most 'overrated' SUVs of 2025

A car enthusiast has revealed the top five most 'overrated' SUVs of 2025. Tomislav Mikula regularly posts motoring insights and maintenance advice for his 377,000 followers on TikTok. But most recently, he took to the platform to share the list of vehicles that he deems to be 'not good,' adding: 'Arguably most aren't that reliable.' Before launching into his full evaluation, Tomislav he began with an 'honorable mention' of the Toyota RAV4 which narrowly escaped the list. The expert, who founded car buying platform Delivrd, began: 'Before you freak out, hear me out for a second because I think the RAV4 is the definition of overrated. 'It is still one of the best SUVs in its class but it only does one thing really well. It is an important thing - which is reliability - but everything else is just middle of the pack. 'It's looks are mid. When it comes down to the driving experience, it's mid. When it comes down to the safety, it's good, but not the best. 'And when it comes down to the overall incentives on this car, they're just fine.' He continued: 'The competition is starting to creep up on this car, slower and faster and faster, but when it comes down to it, the RAV4 is starting to get outdated. 'With that being said, I still think it's a great buy. 'In 2026, it looks like a redesign year, so this car will be completely revamped. 'But going into 2025, this is my honorable mention.' 5. Buick SUV lineup Tomislav then officially launched into his most 'overrated' list - starting with the entire Buick SUV lineup. 'I just think Buick has lost their identity. They don't know who they are trying to serve,' the expert said. 'Buick used to be this luxury American brand but they have fallen off because they are trying to appeal to too many crowds. 'Their price point, for example, is more competitive with an economy car than it is a luxury car. 'And the car looks good in theory but when you actually sit in the vehicle, you realize how cheap of materials they used. 'When you are trying to appeal to everybody, you start to lose value. When it comes down to it, a lot of people like the looks of these cars, but the second they sit in them, they realize how cheap they are. 'I think Buicks should go all-in with luxury, or all-in with economy. If they do that, I think they'll be more successful.' 4. Mazda CX-70 Tomislav said the Mazda CX-70 was next on his list because he 'doesn't think it serves a need.' 'I think if they made this car just a little bit more different than the CX-90, it makes sense,' he explained. 'But if you just pop the third row down in the CX-90, you have a CX-70 at a very similar price point. 'And why not have access to the third row if you need it? The CX-70 does not differentiate itself from the CX-90, which is its biggest problem.' He added: 'I think it's a great SUV, but if I'm in this market, I'm buying a CX-90 even if I don't need the third row - I'll just throw that third row down.' 3. Jeep Wrangler The car enthusiast went on to tackle the Jeep Wrangler, saying: 'Let's face the facts, it isn't a good SUV.' He continued: 'Now I understand this vehicle has a cult following, and I understand the owners are single-handedly keeping the rubber ducky market afloat, but when it comes down to it, it's still not a good vehicle. 'It lacks practicality, it lacks safety and it lacks reliability - and those three things are extremely important to add to an SUV. 'Now this vehicle, you understand is bad when the up and coming, exciting feature is that they made power windows and locks standard for the first time in 2025. 'What? Welcome to the 20th century,' he quipped. Tomsilav continued: 'This car used to have a really good target audience of teenagers that wanted to take the top off and hang out with their friends, but this car's safety rating has become so bad that parents don't want to put their kids in the car. 'They would rather put them in something more reliable and safe and practical than put them into a death trap.' 2. Audi Q5 The car expert said the Audi Q5 is on his list because 'simply, there is not a single thing that Audi does that is better than its competition, which is the Mercedes and the BMW. 'It's not as sporty, it doesn't look as good, it doesn't have as good on technology, and when it comes down to it, it's just not a better value. 'The Audi Q5 has fallen on every single attribute. Now, some people are going to swear by the all wheel drive system and say it's the best thing since sliced bread - but the problem is, if your own redeeming feature can be fixed with another car having good snow tires, your car is flawed. 'Now this car is going to get redesigned and hopefully it's better because some Audis are great in its lineup, but the Q5 is a car that I wouldn't buy, but some people swear by it.' 1. Lexus GX550 Tomislav branded the Lexus GX550 as the 'number one most overrated car of 2025,' stating: 'I'm sorry, just like everybody else, when this car was announced, I was blown away. I thought it was one of the best designed vehicles in the last 15 years. 'I think this car looks gorgeous - from the outside. 'The first time I actually went to go review this car and actually sit in it and drive in it, I sat in this car and was underwhelmed.' He continued: 'It seemed like the interior was an afterthought, which some people might say, "Tomi, it's Lexus, it's an off-roader." But, I'm sorry, when you're spending $80,000 on a vehicle like this, this is something that they should have given more thought. 'I'm sorry, but the Land Cruiser interior is just as nice - if not better - than the interior on this car, which is absolutely insane. 'Now, I understand the outside of this car looks better, but I would honestly go with a Land Cruiser versus the GX550. 'Combine this with their so-little inventory because so many people are preordering this car. It is not worth the mark-up, it is not worth the hype, it is not worth the wait. 'In my opinion, a lot of people were backing out of their orders once they see these cars because they are underwhelmed with the interior. 'I expect this car to fall off super hard. I really hope Lexus puts some extra effort into the interior over the next few years because if it doesn't, I think this car will struggle.' A few viewers agreed with Tomislav's picks. 'When I was younger, I wanted a Wrangler SO BAD. Then I got adult money and test drove one. Absolutely not,' a person shared. 'Couldn't agree more with the RAV4. It's so boring and uninteresting,' someone wrote. 'This video was crazy good. Nailed it on all of them,' one person applauded. 'This is very helpful information to know! Thank you,' someone thanked. Another said: 'This is a perfect list.'
