King and Queen honour fallen heroes at 2025 Warriors' Day parade, joined by Anwar and Dr Wan Azizah
PUTRAJAYA, July 31 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, King and Queen of Malaysia, today attended a parade held in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here. The celebration, coordinated by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), carried the concept of a static parade featuring detachments from the PDRM, Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), Veterans Association of Malaysian Armed Forces (PVATM) and the Ex-Policemen Association of Malaysia (PBPM). The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem, Negaraku, accompanied by the firing of a 21-gun salute by Major Hafizan Mat Ghani of the 41st Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment (Ceremonial). His Majesty then inspected the main guard of honour. A total of 18 officers and 685 personnel from the PDRM and MAF participated in the parade, led by Superintendent Mohamad Ridzuan Roslan of the PDRM. Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar were also in attendance. The ceremony proceeded with the sounding of the 'Last Post', as the Jalur Gemilang was lowered. This was followed by the recital of the poem 'Darah Yang Terpercik di Baju' by Detective Sergeant Ardiansyah Wayang of the PDRM and Staff Sergeant Siti Nur Aini Jasni of the MAF. The poem recounts the tragic ambush by communist terrorists on an MAF convoy transporting patients from Baling, Kedah, to Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, on July 20, 1979. The incident claimed the lives of three MAF personnel, namely Corporal Ramli Abdul Rashid, Trooper Azmi Rahman, and Trooper Abu Hassan Syeikh Daud. The ceremony continued with a special pantomime performance, 'Zabri, Pejuang Sang Saka Biru', by the PDRM and directed by GOF Central Brigade commander SAC Hakemal Hawari, depicting the heroic journey of VAT69 Commando ASP Mohd Zabri Abdul Hamid. The story of Mohd Zabri's struggle, famously known as the Legend of Kerambit Kembar, was brought to life through a 15-minute performance involving 142 PDRM officers and personnel, followed by the presentation of an AI-generated video, a creative production by the PDRM team based on real-life events. The pantomime narrated the story of the late Mohd Zabri, who was killed in a deadly ambush by communist terrorists in 1975. He was fatally injured after stepping on a booby trap while on a mission to intercept terrorists attempting to escape across the border. The booby trap severely injured his right ankle, leading to heavy blood loss. In his final moments, Mohd Zabri managed to deliver a message to his comrades — to continue the struggle, to track down and eliminate the enemies of the nation, even in his absence. The ceremony proceeded with the sounding of the Paluan Fajar, during which the Jalur Gemilang was hoisted, symbolising renewed spirit and strength for the nation's heroes to continue defending the country's sovereignty and peace. Warriors' Day is commemorated on July 31 each year to honour the struggles and sacrifices of the nation's security forces in safeguarding the country's sovereignty and peace. — Bernama

Matthew Broderick was a nervous wreck during 'Ferris Bueller' parade scene: 'I've never danced before'
Choreographer Kenny Ortega looks back at the making of the 1986 John Hughes classic. Oh yeah, Matthew Broderick nailed that dance number. But Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the iconic parade scene of the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, in which star Broderick's Bueller encourages the crowd in downtown Chicago to "Twist and Shout," as he lip-synced to that song as well as "Danke Schoen," says the actor was not nearly as confident as he looked on screen. Dramatically dropping to his knees, shaking his head, and moving his hips, like a rock star would do was uncomfortable for the young actor. "Matthew, the first day I laid eyes on him was in a rehearsal," Ortega said in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. "He was in a pair of sweats and a T-shirt, and he was a nervous wreck. He was like, 'I've never danced before,' and I was like, 'Don't worry about it. We're gonna figure this out together.' And he was the most charming, wonderful, sweet man to work with." And Ortega, who was also working as a second unit director, truly meant that. "That was my first directing assignment for a motion picture," Ortega said of the John Hughes film that continues to be an audience favorite. "And he gave me 12 cameras. We moved the float into a real parade. And then we got one take. It was such a magical day, and working with Matthew Broderick." Ferris, which costarred Mia Sara and Alan Ruck as the main character's girlfriend, Sloane, and best friend, Cameron, followed the three teens on an epic day after he faked being sick to skip school. Apparently Bueller wasn't too worried about being recognized when he hopped onto a float. (Like the rest of the movie, parts of the parade scene didn't make sense, but the point was that it was definitely a fun watch.) Sara has said that the filming of the parade scene is her favorite memory from the set, because she "had so much fun," she told PEOPLE in June. Ortega also told PEOPLE that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is where he met the actress who played Ferris' sister, Jeanie: Jennifer Grey, who would soon work with him on another movie, 1987's Dirty Dancing. Thunder players show off Larry O'Brien trophy in convertibles
The post Thunder players show off Larry O'Brien trophy in convertibles appeared first on ClutchPoints. After Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Jalen Williams clapped back at the championship parade claims of being a bust, the Thunder's Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Joe had their own parade in their droptop convertibles. From Fort Smith, Arkansas to NBA champions, the two childhood friends returned to their hometown to show off the Larry O'Brien trophy. It was a special moment for Williams and Joe. The two high school teammates at Northside High School in Fort Smith teamed up when Williams was selected 34th overall by the Thunder in 2022. After Isaiah Joe was selected 49th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020, the Thunder signed him as a free agent weeks after selecting Jaylin in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. The two childhood friends celebrated in their hometown, bringing the Larry O'Brien trophy with them, per Suave Report's Addam Francisco. Fittingly, the parade occurred over a week after Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt declared July 16 as Jaylin Williams Day and on the day of, July 24, Holt declared it to be Isaiah Joe Day in Oklahoma City. Now, July 24 is also celebrated as Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Joe Day in Fort Smith, which was made official during Thursday's 'Thunder in the Fort' parade. Jalen Williams claps back at false claims over Thunder parade Before signing their core three players to max deals, the Thunder inked Jaylin Williams to a three-year extension after celebrating with Oklahoma City amid a championship parade. Thunder All-Star Jalen Williams set the record straight. After claims that the parade was a bust, Williams said that couldn't have been further from the truth, he said, during a recent appearance on The Young Man & The Three podcast. 'The parade, I don't know why everybody was doing the thing where I don't know why it was a trend to like say that there wasn't a ton of people out there, but it was actually overwhelming how many people were there,' Williams said. 'But I mean, I enjoyed it, Oklahoma enjoyed it.' While there were some gaps in the crowd throughout the parade route, most of the excited Thunder fans waited toward the end of the route to greet the team. Then, most gathered by the thousands for a celebration rally at Scissortail Park. 'So it was rushed in a way, and we still have 700,000 people over there,' Williams added. 'The grass that we're on, you can't even see the grass. We didn't even stay on the float; we ran the whole parade.' Williams hopes the Thunder will get a chance for a do-over in 2026. Don't panic: Cannon fire, road closures expected for Warriors Day in Putrajaya
PUTRAJAYA, July 28 — The public has been advised not to be alarmed by the sound of cannon fire and to plan their journeys ahead of the 2025 Warriors Day parade, which will take place at Dataran Pahlawan Negara on July 31. Putrajaya police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed said the Malaysian Armed Forces will fire 21 ceremonial rounds on Thursday, while a full rehearsal on July 29 will involve two rounds at the same location. 'Residents in nearby areas are advised to remain calm upon hearing the blasts. Traffic congestion is expected from 7am to 10am. Motorists are advised to cooperate and follow police instructions to ensure the parade proceeds smoothly,' he said in a statement today. Major roads expected to be affected include Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Lebuh Perdana Timur and routes around Kompleks E. The public is encouraged to plan their travel early and consider alternative routes to avoid delays. Warriors Day is observed annually on July 31 to honour the service and sacrifices of Malaysia's security forces in safeguarding national peace and sovereignty. Since 1968, the event has been organised on a rotational basis by the Armed Forces and the Royal Malaysia Police. — Bernama
