New Solar lights in park to help boost safety

New solar-powered lighting has been installed in a park to help improve safety and encourage more people to use the space in the evening. The upgrade at Charter Field, in Corby, Northamptonshire, was part of a wider £1.5m investment, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The lights were set up to brighten important paths through the park, especially over a brook, and to help prevent anti-social behaviour Councillor Ken Harrington, from the Reform UK-led North Northamptonshire Council, said: "Charter Field is a vital part of Corby's heritage and community life. Glorious green spaces in our urban areas are essential for our residents, and making sure they're safe for all is paramount." Charter Field is one of the oldest parks in the area and remains home to the Corby Highland Gathering. The new lights were designed with help from the Old Village Neighbourhood Association (OVNA), local councillors, and people who often use the park. Beverley Blackburn, secretary of the OVNA, said: "The [OVNA] couldn't be happier with the recent solar lighting that has been installed in Charter Field. "The feedback we have received is that the park feels safer and they look fantastic." Similar lighting has also been added to Weekley Glebe playing fields in Kettering and The Greenspace in Desborough. Follow Northamptonshire news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.
