Law roundup: Here comes, and goes, the rooster
Jul. 11—Someone had questions about a loud rooster residing at a house and what the "rooster ordinances" were within city limits. Kalispell Police officers spoke with the owner of the expressive rooster, who said she would get rid of it within the week. Someone allegedly found a parrot on the wild streets of Kalispell. A woman reportedly headbutted someone's daughter. A man allegedly woke up and was startled by a drunk man on the couch. The stranger moved on to the apartment complex's laundry room. Police received a call from a woman wondering about the department's policy in "handling subjects with diplomatic immunity" and wanted an officer to call to verify her immunity status. A man went to the hospital after his allegedly jammed gun went off. He shot himself in the hand. A manager flagged down an officer, pointing to a red Subaru with a shattered windshield in the parking lot, saying he wanted it gone. A woman sitting inside the building reportedly complained, saying she just got there and was being "profiled." The officer advised her she had a suspended license and shouldn't be driving but needed to have the car moved. A woman's son reportedly threw a soda at her and hit her in the face. A woman cut off a green Ford hatchback that allegedly started tailgating her, trying to run her off the road. A transient reportedly set up a camp with a "blanket hut" and a shopping cart by an overpass. Someone called officers, suspicious about a man seen checking car doors, thinking he may have stolen something because in security footage, his backpack looked askew and "different." Someone complained that a woman in her 50s would speed down Liberty Street, near a day care, in a beat-up silver car with a loud muffler, every morning. Officers called the woman multiple times to warn her about speeding with no answer. A customer was suspicious of a box truck that allegedly had no license plates. A man was reportedly tired of a homeless woman coming to his house asking for shoes and food after being told to stay away and wanted officers to tell her she could be cited for trespassing if she returned. A dealership allegedly refused to return a $500 deposit.

World of James Herriot pledges lifetime sponsorship of Zeke the parrot
A North Yorkshire museum dedicated to a beloved vet has sponsored a parrot at a nearby sanctuary. The World of James Herriot in Thirsk has pledged lifetime support for Zeke, a green-winged macaw at Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary. Ian Ashton, managing director of the museum, said: "Alf Wight (James Herriot) wrote stories about his experiences with birds, and, in several memoirs, he cares for Gerry the parrot, whom he notes has been with the household 'for years and years.' "We wanted to support this very worthy local cause, and chose Zeke for his beautiful red plumage, which perfectly matches the red door entrance of the World of James Herriot." Yvonne Welsh, sponsorship co-ordinator at Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary, said: "We are so pleased that the World of James Herriot has aligned its support for Zeke at Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary - it's a perfect collaboration." Zeke hatched in 2018 and was brought to Morndyke Parrot Sanctuary following his rescue.

Arrgh you joking? Tesco pensioner stuns shoppers by bringing his pet PARROT with him to buy groceries
On a balance of probabilities, parrots are more likely to be spotted walking the plank than walking down the ready meals aisle of a major supermarket. But that was exactly the scene that greeted one customer, who was left stunned after spotting a pensioner with a colourful parrot perched upon his shoulder in his local Tesco. Named Bella, the 12-year-old exotic bird prompted the stunned man to capture his unusual encounter on video. Posting the footage to X, the astonished man can't help but exclaim, 'That is something unbelievable. Oh my God,' as he spots the red-and-green macaw. 'See the parrot, man, in Tesco,' he continues. After approaching the otherwise unperturbed owner, the man says: 'How are we uncle, you OK? Lovely parrot, man. How old is it?' After being told the bird is aged 12, the curious bystander asks whether the bird speaks. 'She does when she wants,' replies her owner. Man brings his parrot along with him on his Tesco shop 🦜🛒 (TikTok: mr_w1cked1) — UB1UB2 West London (Southall) (@UB1UB2) June 6, 2025 He went on to add that she could fly off 'if she wants to', but remained firmly on the man's shoulder as he casually walked down each aisle to pick up his groceries. 'That is good man, you've trained her well,' the surprised customer told the bird owner, before bidding him farewell. Green-winged macaws are the second largest parrots next to the hyacinth macaw and can reach flight speeds of up to 35mph. They have a very powerful beak which can generate a pressure of 2000 psi (pounds per square inch) and have the ability to crack open incredibly hard-shelled nuts, such as Brazil nuts with ease. Parrots mainly eat seeds, fruits, blossoms, buds, leaves, berries, nuts and sometimes bark - and do indeed enjoy the occasional cracker as well.
