Boeing 737 engine explodes shortly after takeoff from LAX

Shocking video footage captured the terrifying moment a Boeing 737 engine began sparking and shooting flames into the night sky shortly after takeoff, with passengers describing what seemed like a mid-air 'explosion.' The FAA has launched an investigation after the right engine of a Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737 experienced issues mid-air, just moments after it took off from Los Angeles International Airport on Monday night. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing back to LAX. Flight 430 was en route to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport with 166 passengers onboard when it experienced 'an issue' with one engine. The pilots declared an emergency and safely returned to LAX. Fire trucks and emergency officials were waiting for the plane. 'I was actually seated next to the engine that caught on fire. I saw just a really bright flash out the window,' a passenger named Sarah told CNN affiliate WCCO. 'The passenger next to me held hands and kind of comforted each other, bracing for the worst.' Another passenger, Ruth Sorensen, described the chaos onboard the flight. 'We weren't even in the air 25 minutes and it sounded like lightning had struck the plane or something had exploded,' one passenger on board, Ruth Sorensen, told CNN . 'We could actually hear the engine, shutting down after this happened and the flames were coming out.' In response, the airline emphasized its commitment to passenger safety. 'Our passengers and crew are our priority, and we appreciate the professionalism of our pilots and flight attendants to ensure the safety of our customers.' Also this week, a Turkish Airlines flight en route to San Francisco was diverted to Chicago after a passenger reportedly died during the flight. Flight TK79 departed from Istanbul just before 2:30 pm local time and was in the air for almost 12 hours before the emergency landing. The passenger first began experiencing a 'severe medical emergency' as the plane flew over Greenland, according to Aviation A2Z. In response to the passenger's condition, the crew prepared to land at Keflavik Airport in Iceland. Flight attendants performed CPR on the passenger, and consulted medical personnel on the ground via radio. Despite the crew's efforts, the passenger died in the air and the pilots reassessed an emergency landing. Flight staff decided to land at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport, where medical personnel could handle the passenger's body. Since the passenger was already pronounced dead in the air, there was less urgency to land outside of US territory.

LTA arrests 22 drivers offering illegal rides between Singapore-Malaysia

Photo: LTA FB SINGAPORE: A total of 22 drivers suspected of ferrying passengers illegally were caught in surprise enforcement operations carried out by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) at Changi Airport and Gardens by the Bay on Friday (11 July). In a statement posted on Facebook yesterday (12 July), the LTA said the raids were launched following tip-offs from the public and officers found drivers were allegedly operating without licenses to provide e-hailing and chartered transport services. According to the LTA, some of the offenders were not only providing illicit rides within Singapore but were also offering unlicensed cross-border trips to and from Malaysia. Enforcement officers seized the vehicles involved at the scene and have commenced investigations. The LTA reminded that operating any form of point-to-point passenger transport service without the necessary approvals is a serious offence and that such activities undermine the livelihoods of law-abiding drivers as well as compromise passenger safety as they lack proper insurance coverage. The public has been urged to avoid engaging unlicensed drivers, as these rides pose significant risks. Without valid insurance, passengers may have no recourse if accidents occur. Under the law, offenders can face fines of up to $3,000, jail terms of up to six months, or both. Vehicles used in such illegal services may also be confiscated. UAE flight cancellations: Emirates announces travel update

Dubai-based carrier Emirates has announced updated flight cancellations, extending its suspension of Iran flights. Until July 17, Emirates will not fly to and from Tehran citing 'operational reasons' in its latest travel update. The airline announced the extension on July 8, marking the latest in a series of suspensions that have affected the route since mid-June due to regional tensions. 'Due to operational reasons, Emirates has cancelled all the flights to/from Tehran until and including July 17, 2025,' the airline stated in its travel advisory. The suspension affects passengers connecting through Dubai with Iran as their final destination, who will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice. The airline has instructed passengers impacted by the cancellations to contact their travel agencies for rebooking options. Those who booked directly with the airline have been advised to contact Emirates directly for assistance. The airline has requested customers to ensure their contact details are current by visiting the 'Manage Your Booking' section to receive updates on their travel plans. 'We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers. We continue to closely monitor developments. The safety of our passengers, employees and operations will always be our top priority,' Emirates said in its website.

Chinese driver accused of sexual harassment for praising passenger for ‘nice smell'

A driver has been suspended from an online ride-hailing platform for 21 days following accusations of verbal sexual harassment by a female passenger, who claimed he commented on her fragrance by saying she 'smells good'. The driver, identified only by his surname Zhao, from Hangzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang province, was blocked from the platform after an incident on June 8, as reported by Zhejiang TV. During the ride, Zhao asked the woman three times if she was wearing perfume. When she replied that she was not, he remarked: 'The smell from your body is so good.' The passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, explained that the pleasant aroma was due to the liquid detergent she had used on her clothes. Zhao then inquired about the specific brand of the detergent. Ride-hailing services are popular among urban dwellers in China, yet personal safety has become a significant concern, especially among single female passengers.
