Korea Urges SK Telecom to End Cancellation Fees Over Data Breach
South Korean authorities said SK Telecom Co. should waive fees for users who want to leave the network following a data breach that affected about half the country's population.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said in a report released Friday that a penalty waiver clause in SK Telecom's user agreement could allow subscribers to exit their contracts without incurring any fees. The carrier, South Korea's largest, was hit by a cyberattack in April that compromised the data of about 23 million subscribers and triggered a government-led investigation.
