Family 'devastated' after beloved tortoise is stolen

A family has been left devastated after their tortoise was stolen. The 35-year-old tortoise was taken along with her house on Monday, July 21, after someone broke into an outbuilding in the area of Hassocks, police said. Mid Sussex Police issued an appeal for any information on the whereabouts of the animal on July 25. 'She is about six inches across and weighs around six and a half pounds. She rarely eats of her own accord, only really the food that is offered by the owner and has set routines. The owners are worried sick about what is happening to her. 'Tortoises are not the easiest of animals to look after and require knowledgeable care to remain healthy and happy.' Chicago police said a French bulldog was stolen at gunpoint in a violent armed robbery on the city's South Side Tuesday. Polcie said the 2-year-old male French bulldog, named Milo, was on a walk with his owner in the 11200-block of South Union Avenue in the city's West Roseland neighborhood when two men armed with guns and wearing ski masks came up to them. They hit the owner several times as they tried to take the dog, and eventually threw him to the ground. Then they were able to grab Milo and run away. Hong Kong pet shop owner arrested for alleged theft of 35 cats to repay loan

A Hong Kong pet shop owner has been arrested for the alleged theft of 35 of his customers' cats which he used to repay debts to a loan company, with the felines estimated to be valued at more than HK$623,000 (US$79,870), the Post has learned. The owner, surnamed Chan, 44, had a shop in Hung Hom, which also offered consignment and pet-sitting services, a source said on Thursday. The source said Chan took out a loan of HK$210,000 from a company in August last year. The firm demanded repayment on Monday but Chan, who could not pay, proposed offering the cats from two customers to cover part of the debt, the source said. The proposal was accepted by the company staff, who later took away the cats. Three Bengal cats, valued at HK$150,000, and 32 British Shorthairs and Ragdolls, valued at HK$473,300, were given away. The Bengal cats were owned by a woman, 57, who requested a pet-sitting service at the shop. The other cats belonged to a man, 54, who asked for a consignment service.

Search underway for masked man in Betty Boop shirt who stole puppy from McKinney pet store

Police are searching for a man who wore a mask and a Betty Boop T-shirt when he stole a 10-week-old puppy from a North Texas pet store. According to McKinney police, the man entered Petland McKinney, located at 3190 S. Central Expressway, at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Suspect briefly lowers mask He is described as a tall, thin Black man wearing glasses, a green baseball cap, dark pants and a dark T-shirt. Greeted by a staff member and acknowledging them with a wave, the man briefly pulled down the mask covering half his face to speak, police said. McKinney Police Department Puppy taken from playroom The suspect asked to see a 10-week-old black and tan German shepherd puppy and entered a playroom alone while an employee retrieved the dog. "The man began acting as if he was filling out a credit application, and within five minutes, he picked up the puppy and rushed to the door," police said. Surveillance video shows an employee near the front of the store asking for the puppy. The suspect refused and ran once outside. The employee chased him briefly but lost sight of him near a nearby housing development. "The photo shows the man's full face and the size of the puppy." The puppy, which is microchipped, was immediately reported stolen.
