Norma Kamali, the fashion icon you've never heard of
I decide, on point of principle, to make it my first question to Norma Kamali, the fashion designer who also has a side gig as the queen of positive ageing. How old is she? 'Seventy-nine,' she shoots back, grinning. 'I will be 80 on June 27.'
Never, in all my years of interviewing both men and women, has anyone over the age of 30 answered that question so readily. 'I obviously have no problem talking about my age,' Kamali continues. 'I just don't relate to it. I don't think anybody does.' Pause. 'Eighty is somebody else.'
