Michelle Obama gets candid: ‘Every choice I make now ... it's totally about me'
Michelle Obama offered a rare and deeply personal glimpse into her current state of mind during the July 9 episode of her IMO podcast. In a conversation with her co-host and brother Craig Robinson, she spoke candidly about entering a new phase of life focused entirely on herself. "This stage in life for me," Obama shared, "is the first time that I have been completely free." The former US First Lady reflected on how, for decades, her decisions revolved around her family — her husband, former President Barack Obama, and their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24. Michelle Obama, 60, says she has entered a chapter of life where she's learning to prioritise her own needs — without guilt. "I'm at a point," she explained, "where every choice that I make in my life is not about my husband, not about his career, not about what my kids need or where they're going — it's totally about me." The conversation on IMO reflects the former First Lady's growing willingness to speak openly about personal growth, identity, and setting boundaries—particularly in a post-White House world where she is no longer bound by political expectations. Over recent months, Michelle Obama has become more outspoken about her desire to live on her own terms. Her podcast offers an intimate space for these reflections, as she continues to inspire women across generations to pursue self-worth and autonomy. Her latest remarks signal not just a shift in priorities—but a broader message: that even after years of public service and sacrifice, it's never too late to reclaim your sense of self. Michelle Obama in previous podcast episodes explained why she skipped President Donald Trump's second inauguration, emphasising it was a decision rooted in self-care — not marital trouble. 'My decision to skip the inauguration — or my decision to make choices at the beginning of this year that suited me — were met with such ridicule and criticism,' she said. Obama dismissed rumors that her marriage was in trouble, saying: 'People couldn't believe that I was saying no for any other reason. They had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.' She credited therapy for helping her learn to say no, even skipping other high-profile events like former President Jimmy Carter's funeral. She added that attending events separately from Barack Obama is part of setting boundaries: 'It's a muscle that you have to build… I'm just now starting to build it.'

Michelle Obama's Spain Trip Proves She Has No Time for Divorce Rumors
Michelle Obama is doing life her way! The former first lady and husband Barack Obama have been plagued with divorce rumors all year long, but the couple is holding firm that they are still together and going strong. Her girls' trip to Mallorca, Spain this week with daughters, Malia, and Sasha, didn't stop the Daily Mail from questioning their marital status, but it seems that the media outlet is missing the point. Michelle is living her best life after exiting politics. More from SheKnows Sarah Jessica Parker Made a Major Change to Sex and the City Because of Husband Matthew Broderick The three women looked relaxed as they enjoyed their summer vacation by the coast, dining at an outdoor cafe with James Costos, former U.S. ambassador to Spain, and his partner, Michael Smith, the Obamas' interior designer. (You can see the photos here.) The fact that her husband wasn't in attendance shouldn't fuel the breakup rumors though, it's more of an indication as to where Michelle is in this season of life. Nobody understands the situation more than Barack Obama who spoke at Hamilton College on April 3 and shared what he wants to give his wife in their post-White House era. 'I was in a deep deficit with my wife,' Barack Obama said, via The Daily Beast. 'So, I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.' Michelle had put her life on hold for her husband's political ambitions and now it's time to let Michelle be Michelle. She's pursuing her own interests outside of her marriage and living a life that isn't dictated by the political arena. And who could blame her? Even though she skipped Jimmy Carter's funeral and Donald Trump's 2025 inauguration, it had nothing to do with her marriage — Michelle is just done playing by the rules created by old-school political circles. Fans only need to look at her June 15 Instagram post to her husband in honor of Father's Day to know that she and Barack Obama are solid. 'I love looking back at photos like this of when our girls were younger. @BarackObama has always been there for us no matter what — even when it felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders,' she gushed. 'We've always been so grateful. To Barack and all the dads and father-figures celebrating today, Happy Father's Day! ❤️' So, people need to stop expecting Michelle to always be with her husband or showing up at official events because the first lady role has always been an unofficial position. She wasn't elected into office and she wasn't paid for her duties — Michelle voluntarily served for eight years in the White House, and now it's time for her to shine.. Michelle Obama's 'The Look' reflects on her fashion choices
NEW YORK (AP) — Michelle Obama has a new book out this fall that offers a fresh take on her public life, a story not of politics but of fashion. Obama announced on social media Thursday that 'The Look' will be released Nov. 4 by the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House. With commentators ranging from Obama to stylist Meredith Koop to makeup artist Carl Ray, 'The Look' traces Obama's style choices throughout the rise of her husband, Barack Obama, to the presidency, and into their post-White House years. During her eight years as first lady, fashionistas praised her for everything from her cardigan sweaters to her sleeveless dresses to her favoring ballet flats over high heels. 'During our family's time in the White House, the way I looked was constantly being dissected — what I wore, how my hair was styled,' Michelle Obama wrote Thursday, calling her book 'a reflection on my lifelong journey with fashion, hair and beauty.' 'The Look,' illustrated with more than 200 photographs, has a hardcover list price of $50. Obama's previous books include 'Becoming,' one of the bestselling political memoirs in history, and 'The Light We Carry.'
