Pakistan courts sentence Khan's party members to 10 years

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani opposition leader and dozens of supporters from former prime minister Imran Khan's party were sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday, government officials confirmed. The verdicts were issued by anti-terrorism courts in Lahore and Sargodha following convictions tied to violent protests after Khan's arrest last year. 'Punjab Assembly's Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Bhachar has been awarded a 10-year sentence,' said deputy law minister Aqeel Malik. Bhachar, who leads the opposition in Punjab, vowed on social media to continue backing Khan despite the ruling. A PTI spokesman noted Bhachar was only detained late Tuesday. In Sargodha, a court sentenced a sitting lawmaker, a former parliamentarian, and 32 PTI supporters to 10 years each for attacking government buildings. Lahore's court separately jailed eight PTI members, including ex-Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema and former minister Yasmin Rashid, for similar charges. Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was among six acquitted. The cases stem from unrest after Khan's May 2023 arrest, which saw clashes with security forces and attacks on state property. PTI's London-based spokesman Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari condemned the trials as 'political spectacles... rushed through at breakneck speed,' citing late-night hearings. Khan, jailed since August 2023 on contested corruption charges, remains a potent political force despite a media blackout on his name. A UN panel previously called Khan's detention legally baseless, suggesting it aimed to bar him from elections. His enduring popularity challenges Pakistan's ruling coalition, which blocked PTI from power after disputed polls. - AFP

Act fast to save $350 off one of the best gaming laptops with RTX 5070 Ti

We're deep in the dog days of summer, but Best Buy doesn't care—the retailer is running a killer sale right now that knocks over $300 off one of the best gaming laptops around. I know because I review laptops for a living here at Tom's Guide, so I immediately noticed that the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 with RTX 5070 Ti GPU is on sale for $2,049 at Best Buy. That's $350 off the usual $2,399 price of this gaming laptop, which feels like a steal when you see its 14-inch 3K OLED 120Hz display. This is a well-specced edition of one of the best 14-inch gaming laptops you can buy thanks to its 14-inch 3K 120Hz OLED display and the fact it's packing an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU, an Nvidia GeForce 5070 Ti laptop GPU, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD to store all your favorite games. We love these elegant little Asus gaming laptops because they deliver such a potent one-two combo of performance and portability, running even the latest games well on a gorgeous 14-inch display built into a surprisingly low-profile device that doesn't look out of place in a coffee shop. But don't take my word for it. Read our Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2025) review to see what having and using one is really like, including a full rundown of the results of our performance and battery tests. We regularly recommend this laptop because at under four pounds it's fairly easy to carry, yet modern games run and look great on its 3K (2,800 x 1,800 pixels) 120 Hz OLED screen. Plus, the OLED panel supports HDR and Nvidia G-Sync for smooth gameplay at high framerates. The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU gives you more than enough muscle to run AI apps, and it pairs well with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti laptop GPU and 32GB of RAM to run even demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty pretty well. You can play them on your big TV or gaming monitor when you want, too thanks to the HDMI 2.1 connector on the plentiful port array. For all these reasons and more the Zephyrus G14 is one of the best gaming laptops you can buy, and right now it's on sale for one of the lower prices I've ever seen!

Ferrari reveals more extreme 296 Speciale

Ferrari has unveiled the most potent iteration of its hybrid 296 rear-wheel drive supercar. The 296 Speciale, available in berlinetta (coupe) and drop-top Aperta guises, has been sharpened with improved power, tweaked aerodynamics and enhanced suspension, with a weight reduction. These measures were aimed at delivering more driving thrills and the mid-rear engined plug-in hybrid represents the new pinnacle for the Italian marque's production car line-up in driving fun, said Ferrari. The high-revving 2.9 l V6 twin turbo engine uses racing technology — including titanium connecting rods, reinforced pistons and a lightened crankshaft — to hike the power output to 515kW, compared with 488kW for the standard 296. The electric motor has also been uprated and the hybrid drivetrain delivers a combined power output of 648kW, up from the previous 610kW and a record for a rear-wheel drive production Ferrari. The 296 Speciale also has an enhanced sound with the addition of new acoustic ducts. The coupe's weight has been reduced by 60kg compared with the 296 GTB by using materials such as carbon fibre for some body parts. The 0-100km/h sprint is quoted at 2.8 seconds — a one-tenth improvement — with top speed rated at more than 330km/h. The 296 Speciale generates 435kg of downforce at 250km/h — 20% more than the 296 GTB — thanks to solutions developed in the Ferrari 296 Challenge racing series. These include an aero damper integrated into the front bonnet and the vertical fins on the rear bumper, with new side wings that work with the active rear spoiler. With the existing low drag and high downforce configurations, the spoiler has a new medium downforce setting which improves rear-end stability at high speeds. A dedicated version of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyre has been developed for the 296 Speciale, which benefits from experience gained with the Ferrari F80 hypercar. Brake cooling has also been improved to deal with the greater thermal loads the car is capable of with its increased power output, downforce and tyre grip. To heighten the car's predictability when driven at the limit, Ferrari also fine-tuned the electronic control systems, suspension set-up and tyres. The 296 Speciale is equipped with the latest generation ABS Evo dynamic control system, which improves braking precision and repeatability in all surface and grip conditions. The spring and damper settings have been revised and the car rides 5mm lower than the 296 GTB — reducing maximum roll angle when cornering by 13%.

Tokai Teio build guide in Umamusume Pretty Derby

Image via: SEGA Among the diverse cast of horse girls in Umamusume Pretty Derby with their unique backstories and racing specialties, Tokai Teio emerged as a fan-favorite determined racer. Tokai Teio isn't just a cult favorite, she's a potent medium-to-long-distance runner with the potential to become a force of nature once properly trained. This guide dissects how to turn Teio into a title threat, stat emphasis, race tactics, support composition, and skill synergy. Understanding Teio's Racing Style Teio excels at medium (1600–2200m) and long-distance (2400–3200m) races with an affinity for Leader positions. Her AI gleams the most when she leads but keeps enough in reserve to really hammer it home in the end. That is, your Teio needs to always be in a good mood. A high motivation level can seriously affect performance, particularly in races such as the URA Finals or Champion's Meeting. MUST KNOW How to Build EVERY Horse Girl — Stats & Strategy Beginner's Guide Umamusume: Pretty Derby How to Build Who cares about balance, Speed is your primary deity on Teio. I'd shoot for 700+ Speed by the end of training so that she can compete with the lead runners. After Speed is controlled, focus on Power. Power influences acceleration and cornering, crucial for Teio's Leader position. A Teio that's properly powered won't drop speed around curves or when it shifts gears in mid-race. ULTIMATE Uma Musume Guide for NEW PLAYERS! | Umamusume: Pretty Derby Building your ultimate training deck Your deck should be built around Teio's core strengths 3 Speed Cards: To hit that crucial speed cap asap. Cards such as Kitasan Black, Narita Brian (Speed type) are great. 2 Stamina Cards: Employ healing heroes such as Super Creek to double down on stamina recovery and passive restoration abilities. 1 Flex Slot (Power or Wit) : Choose depending on which stat you're trailing in. If you've developed speed quickly, Power could be the jolt she requires. If her racing IQ is low, opt for a Wisdom card such as Agnes Tachyon. BEST Uma Musume Stats Guide - What REALLY Matters! | Umamusume: Pretty Derby Skills & Inheritance Since Teio is a Leader, focus on Leader-style skills that improve pace, steadiness and positioning. Consider Front Runner, Concentration, and Runner's High. Second Wind or Vital Gear-type skills keep her stamina alive in long hauls. For legacy, synergy is essential. Special Week, Mejiro McQueen, and Super Creek are fantastic legacy picks, providing boosts to stamina recovery, long-distance adaptability and capturing skills you won't find in her native pool. Film picks: Superman, Special Cantonese screenings of The Way We Talk

Superman (PG13) 129 minutes, now showing ★★★★☆ Clark Kent/Superman (David Corenswet) struggles to reconcile his dual identity as both human and Kryptonian alien. After Superman involves himself in a conflict between two warring nations, tech billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) seizes the chance to discredit and defeat him. Along the way, Superman meets other heroes, including Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. This is a story of a hero who feels uncomfortable in his own skin. Some think he is a force for good, but many see him as a menace. He falls in with a group of snarky but gifted people; they become frenemies. The allies, made up of comically loud blowhards and timid followers, fight in battles choreographed to the beat of rock hits from years past. The freaks are on the side of good, while handsome villains murder civilians for corporate and national interests. It all ends in a heist on which everything rides. This could describe any James Gunn film, and Superman is packed with his signature style. His version is billed as a return to the Superman of old, which is true – this is the hero from the 1970s to recent times, before Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy (2005 to 2012) caused a reset that made Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel (2013) and his Superman films that followed to grim explorations into the nature of gods and humanity. Writer-director Gunn, who is also DC Studios' chairman-CEO, brings back John Williams' iconic score, which made its debut in the 1978 Superman with Christopher Reeve in the title, and mostly omitted in the Snyder films. Its lump-in-the-throat emotional pull cannot be overstated. Gunn employs it as an undercurrent, making its force even more potent and, more importantly, avoiding nostalgia overload. Corenswet dons the costume – the old one with the red underwear on the outside – as if it were made for him. His physique is not as chiselled as that of Henry Cavill when he played the Man of Steel, but it makes sense. Corenswet's character is a regular man with an extraordinary job, while Cavill played a god-given human form. Gunn opens the movie with the hero as an adult holding down a job at the Daily Planet newspaper. As Lois Lane, Rachel Brosnahan's role is meaty and the actress is superb as the woman who provokes Clark into questioning his identity as an alien. Clark's alienness is a driving theme, with Gunn seeing parallels between the native-versus-foreigner dilemma and current news headlines. The message that humanness is determined by choice, not by genetics, has rarely felt so sincere, or presented with such style. The Way We Talk (PG13) (From left) Neo Yau, Marco Ng and Chung Suet Ying in The Way We Talk. PHOTO: SINGAPORE FILM SOCIETY Presented by the Singapore Film Society (SFS), this 2024 coming-of-age drama from acclaimed Hong Kong film-maker Adam Wong (She Remembers, He Forgets, 2015; The Way We Dance, 2013) will have four screenings presented in the original Cantonese and Hong Kong Sign Language. Three deaf people grapple with questions of identity and belonging. Sophie (Chung Suet Ying) uses a cochlear implant (CI) and has been taught by her mother to hide her disability, such as by learning vocal speech instead of sign language. She meets Alan (deaf actor Marco Ng), a proponent of CIs who is happy and well-adjusted. His childhood friend Wolf (Neo Yau) is opposed to CIs – he thinks deafness is not a flaw that needs fixing. His advocacy for sign language intrigues Sophie, who discovers that passing as able-bodied is not as fulfilling as she was taught to believe. At the 2024 Golden Horse Film Festival, Chung won Best Leading Actress while Neo Yau earned a nomination in the Best Leading Actor category. The Way We Talk's screening on July 26 is held in collaboration with the Singapore Association for the Deaf, with a portion of the proceeds going to the organisation. There will be a post-screening panel discussion aimed at raising awareness of Singapore's deaf community and its diverse identities. A review in the Hong Kong-based newspaper South China Morning Post gives the film 4.5 stars out of 5, saying that 'this deeply humane drama is Wong's best film – it simulates the experience of hearing loss, incorporating meticulous sound design and wordless sequences that transcend the formula of mainstream film-making'.
