Former Greens candidate Hannah Thomas has come away with graphic injuries after a pro-Palestine protest descended into chaos. A horrific photo, posted in the aftermath of the protest action, shows Ms Thomas with damaged left eye that is shut completely with streaks of dry blood caked onto her cheek. The unauthorised protest took place on Friday morning outside SEC Plating in Belmore, Sydney. Protesters claim the company provides components used in a class of jets operated by the Israeli Defence Force. NSW Police attempted to disperse the group, stating the protest was not authorised. 'Five people have been arrested following an unauthorised protest in Sydney's west this morning,' a police statement read. 'About 5.35am Friday, officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command attended Lakemba Street, Belmore. 'Police issued a move on direction to a group of about 60 protesters, who allegedly attempted to block pedestrian access to the business. 'A 26-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were subsequently arrested after allegedly failing to comply with the direction. 'During the 35-year-old woman's arrest, she sustained facial injuries and was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment.' The injured woman has been identified as Ms Thomas, who challenged Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the federal seat of Grayndler at the election earlier this year. A video recorded by one of the protesters captures a confrontation between police officers and several attendees. In the footage, some protesters can be heard shouting, 'let go of her.' A woman wearing a black coat is from the group and at one moment she appears to fall to the ground alongside a police officer. An officer is heard instructing, 'Get up now,' to which the woman responds, 'I'm trying.' It is not clear if the woman who is taken away in the video is Ms Thomas. A photo taken after the incident appears to show Ms Thomas standing next to an officer with visible swelling around her eye. A source has confirmed with NewsWire that Ms Thomas has undergone initial surgery and her vision may be impacted. A joint statement from the Greens said NSW Police had 'violently attacked and assaulted protesters' at the 'peaceful picket … leaving one woman with serious facial injuries and arresting multiple demonstrators'. 'SEC Plating reportedly is involved in providing plating services for various parts used in F-35 jets,' the statement reads. 'The State of Israel's fleet of around 40F-35 rely on the global supply chain and supplement supply from countries like Australia to continue the genocide against the Palestinian people.' The statement says Peter O'Brien Lawyers has been engaged to represent Ms Thomas along with other protesters. Ms Thomas has not been charged with a crime, the police said. The police have charged a 29-year-old woman with refuse or fail to comply with direction, a 24-year-old man with larceny and goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen, a 41-year-old man with using offensive language in or near public place or school and a 26-year-old man with refuse or fail to comply with directions and hinder or resist a police officer in the execution of duty. They were all granted conditional bail and will appear before Bankstown Local Court on July 15. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing, the police added. Rising Tide organiser Zack Schofield was arrested in the tussle and claimed the protest constituted 'legitimate political expression against genocide'. 'I witnessed the brutal assault against a community member this morning, someone who was lawfully expressing themselves in public, and it was sickening,' he said. But the idiotic protesters, dressed in white overalls and masks, wrongly believed that the equipment was being shipped to Israel, 7sur7 reported. Taking part in the Stop Arming Israel campaign, they first broke into and ransacked the warehouse's offices in Tournai. The dopey demonstrators then headed for the storage units before vandalising the facility and the critical equipment inside it. OIP Land Systems specialises in the maintenance, repair, and modernisation of military vehicles. The activists reportedly believe that Elbit supplies 85 per cent of the Israel Defence Force's drones, and most of their ground military equipment. But the raging protesters were left mortified after the firm's CEO claimed that his company had not produced defence systems for Israel in over 20 years. At least 30 people were arrested following the embarrassing raid, Stop Arming Israel said. Tournai police arrived to the scene supported by Borinage cops who also came with riot control vehicles. A helicopter was also scrambled during the mindless rampage. Some activists fled to neighbouring villages in order to escape, before being chased down by cops. OIP Land Systems has provided defence products to Ukraine on several occasions. The military equipment provided includes Leopard 1 tanks, which are manufactured at the Tournai plant. It comes after two pro-Palestine activists broke into an RAF base and vandalised two planes in a "grotesque" breach of security. The men were seen breaking into RAF Brize Norton in a video shared online by group Palestine Action. The UK's defence ministry slammed the "vandalism of Royal Air Force assets" in a scathing statement.

Ex-nurse accused of hate crime avoids conviction
A controversial former nurse who was accused of a hate crime at a pro-Palestine rally has avoided conviction over the incident. Jennifer May Scott, 37, appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday facing charges of disorderly behaviour, resisting police and failing to remain stopped. Prosecutor Sergeant Simon Reay, though, confirmed Scott had completed diversion on the latter charge and the other counts were withdrawn. The police diversion scheme allows predominantly young or first-time offenders to make amends for their crimes — sometimes by making a reparation payment, writing an apology letter, attending counselling or completing voluntary work — to avoid a mark on their criminal record. However, Scott already has a conviction for intentional damage from 2023 after spray-painting explicit phrases on an ex-boyfriend's ute. The terms of her recent diversion were not discussed in open court. The charges stemmed from an incident on June 1 last year when Scott was allegedly driving in the Octagon. She was accused of filming pro-Palestine protesters with her phone and yelling "Palestine rapes and murders babies. Palestine isn't a country". Scott allegedly ignored police instructions in the aftermath and resisted officers trying to handcuff her. Yesterday's withdrawal of charges was a rare win for Scott after last year was littered with setbacks. The woman, who has called herself "Terf [trans-exclusionary radical feminist] of the South" online, courted controversy in August after setting up an online fundraising page, complete with a photo of her and her partner, claiming they were homeless and needed money for a campervan. The partner was identified as a double-murderer formally known as Gresham Marsh and Corrections confirmed he had a home and was being "closely managed". The photo and all reference to him was subsequently removed from the web page. The following month, after a hearing Scott failed to attend, the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal cancelled her nursing registration. The ruling pointed to her spreading of vaccine disinformation and repeated episodes of transphobia as reasons for the decision. Tribunal chairwoman Theo Baker said the misconduct brought discredit to the profession and was "sufficiently serious to warrant a disciplinary sanction". Scott was also ordered to pay costs of more than $45,000. Then in October, she was on the wrong end of a decision by the Tenancy Tribunal. Ms Scott made "wide-ranging claims" including assault, unlawful entry, breaches around storage, withholding of goods and breach of privacy after being evicted from a Macandrew Bay property. But adjudicator Rex Woodhouse said the tribunal did not have jurisdiction to hear her case because she was a "squatter" and it was therefore not a dispute between tenant and landlord. SFI delegates laud hospitality of Kozhikode
Neha Thomas For Soubyanta D. Chakraborthy, his first impression of Kozhikode was quickly shaped by the hospitality of autorickshaw drivers in the city. 'Everyone here is so welcoming. I do not feel like an outsider at all,' he said. Mr. Chakraborthy, a delegate from West Bengal, is one of over 800 attendees at the four-day 18th All-India Conference of the Students Federation of India (SFI), which began here on Friday (June 27, 2025). Participants from outside Kerala have especially appreciated the warmth of Kozhikode, finding it conducive to sharing their cultural experiences and building connections across regional boundaries. 'It has been a wonderful opportunity to learn about a new State and its culture,' said Aanisha, the organisation's Punjab State president. When asked about Kerala's traditional food, Sakhi, a student from Jamia Millia Islamia, pointed out the distinctive colour of the water served in restaurants. 'In Kerala, the water is pink!' she said, referring to 'karingali vellam' — water infused with herbs, roots, bark, and seeds. Shivagi Pozta, a delegate who had travelled all the way from Himachal Pradesh, preferred to stick with the classics. 'Dosa with some coconut chutney is my favourite,' she said. The participants also shared insights into the SFI's activism in their respective States. 'We are the strongest progressive political organisation in Delhi,' said Mehina Fathima, a student at the Delhi University. Those from the Capital acknowledged that activism often came with challenges. 'We organise pro-Palestine protests outside the Israeli Embassy and are frequently detained as a result,' said Sakhi. Maharashtra State president Rohidas said the organisation had been working with girls from tribal communities. 'We recently helped 6,000 tribal students gain admission to residential schools,' he added. Mr. Rohidas mentioned that he is a PhD scholar. Two other PhD scholars from Maharashtra had also attended, and all three said they were balancing their activism with academic research. The conference created a space for students to connect across regional and linguistic boundaries. As they sat together, Sujith Tripura and Somnath Nirmal — central committee members from Tripura and Maharashtra, respectively — discussed issues in their home States and expressed a desire to visit Wayanad. A photo of Delhi's Mehina Fathima and Rajasthan's Abhijeet Poonia raising their fists at Kozhikode Beach perfectly captures how students from across India have come together on the shores of the Arabian Sea. S. Nanshana, a State committee member from Kerala, said a significant number of delegates had come from outside the State. The conference will conclude on Monday (June 30, 2025).

Video posted online last week showed two yobs from Palestine Action vandalising Voyager aircrafts at the base. In the clip, one protester can be seen moving towards an Airbus Voyager air-to-air refuelling tanker while on an electric scooter. The activist then appears to spray red paint into the rear of one of the aircraft's two engines. Read more News Moving the spout of the repurposed fire extinguisher around the rim of the jet engine, red paint can be seen sprayed deep into the aircraft. Then, a loud thumping sound loud thumping sound can be heard as the camera pans to the activist's scooter - also showing red paint on the tarmac next to the aircraft at the Oxfordshire base. It is unclear if this sound is what the group claims was "crowbar" damage to the aircraft or just another form of damage to the engines. The pair of activists can then be seen roaming free across the grounds of the airbase on electric scooters as they "evaded security". Brize Norton is the RAF's largest airbase and home to more than 6,000 military and civilian personnel as well as the UK's largest military aircraft. A spokeswoman for the ministry said: "Our armed forces represent the very best of Britain. "They put their lives on the line for us, and their display of duty, dedication and selfless personal sacrifice are an inspiration to us all.
