Escape To The Country host fights back tears as she 'gets emotional on show for the first time EVER' after widow's heartbreaking tale

An Escape To The Country host fought back tears as she 'got emotional on the show for the first time ever'. Friday's instalment of the popular BBC show saw property expert Nicki Chapman help Steph, who was looking for a home in North Yorkshire. Steph's husband had sadly passed away after a battle with Parkinson's and dementia and she hoped to achieve their goal of living in the picturesque countryside. 'The past years have been more about dying than living and I think it's time to start living again,' Steph, who was moving from Buckinghamshire, said. Steph's best friend, Sue, also featured on the show and offered her support. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I want to go swimming in landscapes that inspire me to do my art. Be near places that I can go walking and running, maybe some wild water swimming and to do all the things that my husband and I planned to do,' she said. With a budget of £420,000, Steph was looking for a semi-detached property with three bedrooms and enough room for an art studio. During the instalment, Nicki showed Steph around several possible homes in different areas of North Yorkshire including South Otterington and Thornton-le-Dale. At one point, while Steph was touring a property, Nicki spoke candidly and appeared to tear up. 'For the first time ever,' she said before emotionally covering her mouth. 'I'm getting quite emotional... 'I'll leave it,' Nicki added, before walking away from the camera. In the end, Steph put an offer on the mystery property, which was accepted on the basis she sold her house in Buckinghamshire. Another buyer on Escape To The Country burst into tears after 'falling in love' during a property viewing, before a baffling U-turn. A previous instalment of the BBC house-hunting show saw Joey ask property expert Alistair Appleton for help. Joey, who works in customer service for a major airline, hoped to find an idyllic countryside home in Wiltshire and move out of her small flat near Heathrow Airport as she approaches retirement. She explained, 'I've decided I want to move onto pastures new. Have a bit of greenery in my life.' Accompanied by her friend, Susan, during her search, Joey had a budget of £260,000 for a two-bedroom home with a garden and a two-hour commute from the airport. When Alistair showed Joey the very first property, an hour and 35 minutes away from her workplace, she was immediately taken. 'Well straight away I really like it, it's a perfect size,' Joey gushed about the 19th Century cottage. She commented on the 'perfect size' of the kitchen, but when she entered the living room which featured a characterful fireplace and wooden floors, Joey broke down in tears. Susan explained: 'This is just what she's been imagining for years and years.' Buyer Joey, left, on Escape To The Country burst into tears after 'falling in love' during a property viewing, before a baffling U-turn Accompanied by her friend, Susan, right, during her search, Joey had a budget of £260,000 for a two bedroom home with a garden and a two hour commute from the airport Joey agreed and added: 'It's so cosy isn't it, it's what I've been looking for. This is really really nice.' 'I just think this is Joey's dream,' Susan said. Alistair revealed the asking price was £220,000, putting it £40,000 under budget. Joey was overcome with emotion again and wiped away tears before continuing the tour. However, even though Joey felt so strongly about the property, at the end of the episode she didn't make an offer and instead decided to continue searching.

Escape To The Country host scrambles to comfort buyer and gasps 'are you okay?!' as they break down in tears minutes into emotional viewing

An Escape To The Country host scrambled to comfort a buyer and gasped 'are you okay?!' as they broke down in tears just minutes into an emotional viewing. Tuesday's episode of the BBC show saw Briony May Williams, 41, help couple Barry and Pauline find their dream home in the rural area of Hertfordshire. The couple, who met at a dance 13 years ago, wanted a new start and life away from Romford, Essex. Barry and Pauline had £500,000 to try and find a three-bedroom detached property with a quarter of an acre in a village location. The property search appeared to be going very well, but it was the mystery house - that was a barn conversion - that really caught Pauline's eye. Briony explained that it wasn't everything that they had asked for, as it was semi-detached and open plan. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Just seconds into walking into the kitchen, Pauline was impressed and said: 'Yes. Look at that. What a lovely kitchen.' Briony asked: 'Isn't it gorgeous?' Barry was impressed with the views, while Pauline was a fan of the stone flooring. Pauline also pointed out that there was a kitchen island in the middle of the room as they aren't usually Barry's first choice. He confessed: 'It's not enormous, you can get under it. I could live with that.' The camera then panned back on the couple and Pauline was very emotional as she looked out the window. Briony asked her: 'Are you feeling a bit emotional?' Pauline started to cry and she continued: 'Oh are you okay?!' Pauline replied: 'Yeah.' She continued: 'Oh this is lovely Barry. I love this.' Barry said: 'It is. So far. It's bang on.' 'I cant believe all this light, over looking the garden, everywhere you look,' Pauline confessed. 'From every window. It's what we've been dreaming of!' The pair were left lost for words when the property expert told them that it had an asking price of £475,000. Pauline shouted: 'No! I don't believe that.' But Briony had to tell them that the house had already had a lot of interest and that they would have to act fast if they wanted it. At the end of the instalment, Pauline and Barry decided to go for it, but it was not made clear if they bagged their dream home. It's not the first time that a buyer has got emotional on the show. Last week host Steve Brown scrambled to apologise for 'upsetting' a guest called Jane as she searched for her dream home in Devon. Speaking to her daughter Bella, Steve said: 'Dare I say it, your mum, I think, moving down here, doing it on her own, is very, very brave.' Bella replied: 'I think having the painful slog of raising me and my sister probably made her strong enough that moving down here it's a quick one! 'The main thing is packing, that's the worst bit! Hate packing!' Steve asked her: 'Is this a big leap for you that you just take in your stride? Because not many people just decide...' Before the host could finish his question, Jane wiped away a tear from her face and Steve continued: 'Sorry I don't mean to upset you!' Jane told him: 'No! No you haven't.' 'I hope this is pride that we're talking about here,' Steve said. Jane explained: 'It's hearing what Bella's saying.'

I work on A Place In The Sun and will never forget my absolutely awful experience that left the whole Channel 4 team CRUSHED

In her 20 years hosting A Place In The Sun, presenter Jasmine Harman has seen her fair share of chaos. The sun-soaked property search show, first aired in 2000, has had Jasmine as one of its primary hosts since 2004. She has helped hundreds of clients find their dream home abroad on the Channel 4 programme over the years - including her own cousin. And she even made her own big move in 2023, relocating from England to the Spanish town of Estepona with her husband Jon and children Albion and Joy. But things have not always been smooth sailing for the presenter, 49, who recently told the Express about one particularly awful experience she had on the show. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Jasmine revealed she once presented an episode which saw a house hunter find their dream home among the options she selected. As fans of the show will know, finding the right property for the buyers - who often have big dreams and a specific vision - is not always a guarantee, so she was elated to have been successful. But it all came crashing down when, as she helped the guest make an offer on the property, Jasmine was told the horrifying news it had already been sold to someone else. Having not previously been informed about this, she said everyone - herself, the buyer and the whole Channel 4 team - was 'crushed'. She explained: 'It was just absolutely awful. 'Can you imagine? You're just on the cusp of making that amazing life-changing decision and someone pulls the rug out from under you. It was horrible.' While the buyer was the one hurt in that particular episode, Jasmine added they can sometimes be the ones who cause the hassle in other cases. The host remembered some particular guests on the show who refused to even step foot inside a property she had chosen for them, in Co Mayo, Ireland. Even after she then pointed out it was the only freehold property within their budget, they still refused to take a look. Jasmine also confessed that it frustrates her sometimes when buyers get obsessive over extremely small details. She pointed to a recent episode where a couple declared a penthouse unlivable - just because of the cost of re-tiling the balcony, which they hated the terracotta colour of. The presenter said: 'Sometimes people get a bee in their bonnet about weird things.' She tried to give them the advice she forced herself to consider when buying her own property abroad - that buyers always have to make compromises, no matter their budget. When relocating her family to Spain's Costa del Sol, Jasmine did not have the budget for a newbuild - so had to throw herself into renovations to bring her vision to life. The TV personality will share her property transformation journey on a dedicated TV series set to hit screens later this year. Ahead of the big release, she offered prospective buyers an initial word of wisdom - which was not to look for perfection as it does not really exist. She explained: 'You might find a place that's not perfect but will do perfectly.' These confessions are not Jasmine's first chaotic revelations about her two-decade stint on A Place In The Sun. The presenter described last month a particularly 'awful' incident during filming, which saw her suffer motion sickness during a ride on a microlight plane in the Algarve. 'We were flying and he was doing all of these little tricks and I got a bit of motion sickness and I started to feel a bit dodgy', she recalled to the Express. 'I kept telling myself, "I'll be alright, I'll be alright,".' When the plane landed, Jasmine felt terrible - and amid the wave of nausea, she could not get her helmet off. She continued: 'I ended up vomiting inside the helmet. And it was so embarrassing. In front of the house hunters and this handsome pilot. The whole team.' The presenter described it as 'an awful moment' as 'everyone was there' - but she is now able to laugh about it instead.

Escape To The Country guest breaks down in tears as stunned BBC host scrambles to apologise for 'upsetting her' outside property

An Escape To The Country guest broke down in tears as stunned BBC host Steve Brown scrambled to apologise for 'upsetting her' during a recent episode of the show. The instalment saw Jane and her daughter Bella asked for help from the property expert in a bid to find Jane a dream home in Devon. Jane decided that she wanted to move from her current home in Henfield, West Sussex, and head back to county in the southwest of England after growing up there. She explained that she had outgrown her current pad and had a maximum budget of £425,000 for a minimum of two bedrooms, an office, a small garden, a parking space, located near a large village and church. Before heading to to their next property in the episode, the trio stopped by Teignmouth seafront to catch up and talk about Jane and her reason to come back home. Steve said: 'Dare I say it, your mum, I think, moving down here, doing it on her own, is very, very brave.' Jane told Steve: 'It's a fresh start. I'm looking for something new, and a new adventure and a new chapter. 'I just turned 60, now's the time to do it.' Steve asked: 'Has today cemented it for you?' to which she said: 'Definitely.' He added: 'I'm so pleased to be part of this with you.' It's not the first time recently that there were tears involved in the programme. A buyer broke got very emotional after 'having a hard time' with her doomed property search during the most recent episode of the BBC show. Property expert Ginny Buckley returned to our screens to help couple Debs and Colin find their dream property on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. The pair - who had lived in Caterham, Surrey, for 29 years - tried to find their perfect home seven years ago, but it didn't work out, and only now were they ready to try again. Ginny took them to Norfolk end to the village of Forncett End, near a market town of Wymondham. The thatched cottage, costing £500,000, boasted a kitchen, breakfast room, two reception rooms, three bedrooms and a workshop. And they certainly liked the look of what they saw. Colin said: 'That is full-on Escape To The Country character, isn't it?' Debs added: 'It's beautiful. It is really pretty. I love it.' Just moments later she got very emotional and said: 'Oh it's making me - a bit - cry...' A shocked Ginny asked: 'Oh why? What? What's making you?' 'I don't know,' Debs replied. It's just making me a bit, like, emotional. It is so pretty. So pretty.'

Talking about the heartbreaking time, Debs explained: 'One minute we were doing it, we were even packed up, and then the rug was pulled from under our feet.' Colin is keen to replicate his antique restoring workshop in their new pad, while Debs is a knitting lover. The couple wanted a character property, three bedrooms, a good sized garden and travel links to the capital. ' At the end of the instalment it was revealed that the pair were keen to get their current home sold before making any decisions. However their favourites were the first property that they saw, as well as the mystery one. Just last week a buyer on Escape To The Country was left baffled by the price of a property before making a surprising U-turn. Nicki Chapman was tasked with finding semi-retired lecturer Clement and his grandson Luke a new home in Cornwall. The pair were making the move from Surrey to the coast to live closer to family who were already based there. He wanted to be near pleasant walking routes and had a £675,000 budget for a detached four-bedroom house with a garden and garage. Nicki presented Clement with a range of possible homes but it was the mystery house that particularly surprised him. 'Is the mystery house working its magic?' Nicki asked. 'It's working some magic, it's one of those houses that grows on you as you look through it,' Clement replied. Nicki revealed the asking price was £650,000, a huge £25,000 below budget. 'Where's the contract to sign? Let's go,' Hannah exclaimed. Clement appeared to be shocked by the price and commented: 'I like conversations especially those ones, that's excellent.' At the end of the episode, it was revealed Clement had arranged second viewings for two of the houses, including the mystery property. He put an offer in on the mystery property but ultimately decided to go for a completely different house.
