Woman with black eye and newborn baby claims husband ‘kicked me and dragged me up and down'

A woman who had a black eye when she came to the emergency domestic violence court with her newborn baby claimed her husband 'kicked me and dragged me up and down'. Two other women who brought separate emergency applications under the Domestic Violence Act to the court at Dolphin House, Dublin, on Friday, also had babies with them. When Judge William Aylmer remarked on the first woman's black eye, she said her husband kicked her and dragged her up and down and was abusive many times during their long marriage. She had given him 'loads of chances' to change his behaviour but he had not. 'I don't feel safe. I've had enough.' READ MORE 'He reckons the drink and drugs make him do this.' He also blamed his behaviour on trying to deal with several suicides in his birth family, she added. Her mother had told her she needed to 'wake up' and stop tolerating her husband's abusive behaviour. 'I have to think of my own health and the kids. He needs to stop his pity party.' Judge Aylmer, telling the woman he agreed with her, granted her a protection order. In another case, a weeping woman with a baby got a protection order against the child's father. He 'gets very angry out of nowhere', 'never stops' and she has spent two months asking him to leave her apartment, she said. He had a 'meltdown' some days earlier when she took the baby from him before he had finished changing her nappy. The baby was hiccupping and she took her up because she feared the infant was about to vomit, she said. He 'gritted' his teeth, called her 'disgusting' and put his finger in her face. 'The look on his face, I got really scared.' She had permitted him to live with her for periods and he kicked her out on some occasions, she said. 'I slept in a hotel when I was nine months pregnant because he would not give me a break.' They had gone to therapy but he had not taken agreed actions to address his issues, she said. 'I have no problem him having a relationship with his daughter but our relationship is over. I can't be with him.' A woman with a baby and toddler got an interim barring order against her partner. She said he physically abused her previously and recently forced his way out of their home after pushing her away from the door when she confronted him about a suspected affair. He grabbed her arm, leaving her with bruises, and when she sought to stop him leaving, drove his car towards her, scaring her, she said. He has not returned home and had told a social worker he did not intend to, she said. A distraught mother who told the judge she is in fear and has 'lost everything' as a result of her adult daughter's drug addiction got a protection order against her. Her daughter, aged in her thirties, told her 'one side of my brain is telling me to stab and slice you and the other side is saying 'that's your Mammy''. Her daughter had been in a violent relationship and has children, all of whom are being cared for by other family members. 'God help any other family going through this.' She paid €3,000 to drug dealers for her daughter's debts and her daughter constantly pesters her for money, especially at night. 'She is getting worse and worse, the drugs have her destroyed, she'll be at it again tonight, I can't bear it.' After she spent almost €500 getting her daughter into a treatment unit, she was thrown out due to excess drugs in her system, she said. Another treatment appointment was fixed for later this year. 'It's destroying me, all we're doing is ringing places trying to get her help and we're getting nowhere.' When the judge said drugs are a 'demon' and many are in the same position, the woman agreed. 'I can see the little kids being destroyed, they are little 'gofers' for them.' She grew up in a large family, none got involved in drugs, she never drank and 'worked hard all my life to put food on the table'. Many people she grew up with were dead from drugs. In another case, the judge granted a fresh protection order to a woman who said gardaí found a meat cleaver, which she did not know was there, in a box in her home after her ex-partner had threatened to 'chop me up'. He had been diagnosed with a serious mental illness and accused her of having listening devices in the house, she said. She previously got a protection order against him but gardaí could not locate him to serve it. She last saw him in May and did not know where he was.

'I am a man, this is embarrassing': Man weeps as he tells court his wife hit him

A man wept in the witness box and said, 'I am a man - this is embarrassing' after disclosing that his wife hit him at home. At the Family Law Court, the man was giving evidence as part of an ex-parte application to obtain a domestic violence Protection Order against his wife. Advertisement He said that his partner struck him while he was in bed and also engages in name-calling. Judge Alec Gabbett said that the man's wife had got a domestic violence order against him before. Judge Gabbett said that he was granting the man the Protection Order commenting that 'the violence is concerning'. After seeing the man weep in the witness box, Judge Gabbett said to him: 'This is very normal. It is very stressful to you, and this is a stressful situation.' Advertisement The man said: 'I am no father of the year, I am no husband of the year. I raise my voice and she classes it as domestic abuse.' Judge Gabbett asked 'why are you frightened of her?' and the man replied: 'It is the name calling.' He also alleged that the woman sporadically hits their children. He said: 'She hits them with a belt.' He said: 'Once or twice it has happened. She shows her shoe-" and Judge Gabbett said 'and they are gone'. Advertisement The man said his wife has taken herself and their children to a refuge, and Judge Gabbett said that he expected her to also to come to the district court for an application for her own Protection Order. The man said that his children 'have no business in a refuge when they have a home'. On his application, he said: 'I don't want to do this. I really don't, and if I don't, I am leaving myself open.' The other four applicants for Protection Orders before the court were all females, and Judge Gabbett granted the orders. Advertisement In one case, a woman said that her now ex-partner tried to break her teeth while the two were on holiday, stating 'he tried to take them out'. Judge Gabbett said: 'He is just jealous of your teeth? Clearly, that was very frightening.' Ireland Spanish tourist raped in Dublin city centre says s... Woman who alleged partner broke foot and put hand to her throat gets protection order

A woman who went with her young children to a refuge after her partner allegedly became violent, put his hand to her throat and broke her foot by throwing a heavy object on it has secured a protection order. The distressed woman said the children were crying and saying: 'Leave Mammy alone.' She locked herself and the children into a room and neighbours called gardaí, who came and escorted her and the children out of the apartment to a refuge. Her partner had resumed drinking and taking drugs. He assumed it was her who contacted gardaí and called her 'a rat', she said. READ MORE The man owns the apartment where she and the children have lived for several years, the emergency domestic violence court at Dublin's Dolphin House heard. Judge Gerard Furlong said the woman could not seek a barring order because the apartment is in the man's name. However, the court would grant a protection order on an ex-parte (one side only represented) basis, restraining him using, or threatening, violence towards her and the children. When the judge said the man could communicate with her only concerning access to the children, the woman said Tusla had said he could not have access, it was 'too dangerous'. In another of about 20 ex-parte applications on Friday, a woman who alleged she was 'preyed on' by a man when she was homeless got a protection order against him. After she got her own accommodation, he moved in and was violent to her, breaking her ribs, foot and thumb and inflicting 'countless black eyes' and bruising, she said. He tried to kill her and to get her to kill herself, 'put me down a lot' and turned her friends and family against her, she said. He put a camera in her house, stalked her and tracked her phone and while he is now out of her house, she fears for her safety, she said. A young man separately got a protection order against his ex-partner over her alleged conduct towards him since their relationship of a few months ended. He alleged she has sent him more than 1,000 messages, follows him from his work, and had ignored warnings from gardaí and a 'cease and desist' letter from his solicitor. She has claimed to have qualifications in surveillance and tactical training and he is 'in constant fear' for the safety of himself and his current partner, he said. A woman who said she wants a separation from her husband but is fearful how he will respond sought a protection order to protect her and their young children during the separation process. She said she has been subject for years to coercive control, psychological and financial abuse by him. He is 'very unpredictable' and switches between calm and aggressive behaviour towards her and the children, she said. He often lost his temper in front of their children and she had come home to them crying and asking her not to leave them alone with him, she said. He is financially abusive, threatening not to pay bills unless she is intimate with him, and had taken her credit card and emptied all their Revolut accounts, she said. He isolated her from her family and friends in the past and is again doing so, insisting she 'put him first', she said. 'I'm scared to stay with him, I can't let him frighten the kids any more.' The judge said that while he initially thought fear of her husband's possible response to her separation plan could not be a basis for a protection order, she had provided enough evidence of his actual behaviour for an order to be granted. A young woman got a protection order against her father whom she alleged is an alcoholic who is verbally and financially abusive. He throws objects at her and her cats and shouts 'vulgar sexual profanities' at her in front of her younger sister including: 'You're getting raped' and 'I will f*** you hard', she alleged. She did not know 'if he meant that in a sexual way', she told the judge. There were many examples of such 'aggressive torture' over the years, she added.

Oxford man charged with harassing juvenile

OXFORD – A Lafayette County man has been arrested after he violated a no-contact court order and continued to harass a boy. Woman went without food for days as husband refuses to give money for essentials, court told

A woman who said she went days without food on one occasion, as her husband refuses to give her money for essentials, has been granted a protection order against him. The woman told Dublin District Family Court on Friday that she is 'completely dependent' on her husband as she has a disability. Asked by Judge Gerard Furlong if she was entitled to social welfare payments, the woman, originally from Africa, said she did not believe she was. She told him her husband of more than two decades 'threatens and bullies' her in front of her four adult children. READ MORE 'My husband has always been controlling and often aggressive towards me. He has hit and pushed me around many times over the years,' she said in a sworn statement. She said her husband regularly threatens her and is 'sending me out of the house at midnight'. She told the judge her husband has stopped providing money for living expenses and 'refuses to give me money to eat'. 'In December, after I had not had any food for four days, I took his wallet to try and take some money for food and essentials. He became very angry and violent towards me, hitting me in the back and pushing me,' she said. After attending her local Garda station, and being told by gardaí that the man must provide money for essentials, she said her husband agreed to give her money, 'but has now stopped again'. Having recently asked for money for food, the woman claimed her husband offered €50 to cover the subsequent two weeks, which she told him was not enough to survive on. 'He then refused to give me any money at all and ended up pushing me around. I cannot take this any more,' she said. Granting a protection order, the judge advised the woman to seek support and advice from Women's Aid. He said she had the option of lodging a maintenance summons. 'This is a long time that this is going on,' he said, noting that the woman had previously been granted a protection order. He advised the woman to contact gardaí if further incidents arise, saying that her being put out of the house at midnight was 'putting your safety at risk'. In a separate case heard on Friday, a woman in her 80s was granted a protection order against her daughter who, she told the court, was 'tormenting me all the time'. The woman told Judge Furlong her daughter, aged in her 40s, is a 'chronic drug addict' and 'violent'. 'She has been terrorising me and threatening to hurt me,' the woman said in a sworn statement. Applying for a protection order, she said she no longer wished to have any contact with her daughter as she is 'afraid of her because of her violent mood swings'. 'She said she would hurt me if I didn't give her money,' the woman said. Hours before her attendance at Dublin District Family Court, the woman said her daughter came to her house and 'wanted to smoke drugs' there. 'I told her to get out and she got aggressive and refused to leave,' she said. The woman said she called gardaí, who attended the incident, but that she remained 'scared to go home'. Judge Furlong granted the protection order until a full hearing is held and told the woman to call An Garda Síochána if her daughter puts her in fear for her safety.
