Dubai announces free parking for Islamic New Year
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has announced that public parking zones across the emirate will be free of charge on Friday, June 27, in observance of Islamic New Year. Regular fees will resume on Saturday, June 28. The only exception will be for multilevel car parks. Dubai Metro will operate on Friday, June 27, from 5am to 1am, while the Dubai Tram will run from 6am on June 27 until 1am. RTA Customer Happiness centres will be closed on Friday but the Smart Customer Happiness centres in Umm Ramool, Deira, Al Barsha, and the head office will remain operational 24/7 as usual. All service provider centres will be closed on Friday and vehicle technical testing services will resume on Saturday. Commuters are advised to check the S'hail or RTA app to see schedules for public buses and marine transport. What is Islamic New Year? Public and private sector workers across the UAE will be granted a public holiday on Friday to mark the start of the new Islamic year. The Islamic, or Hijri, New Year, heralds the beginning of Muharram, the first of 12 months on the Islamic calendar. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources issued a circular to ministries and federal departments to confirm the public holiday, while the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced the holiday for the private sector. In contrast to Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, no religious observances are typically held to mark the Islamic New Year. It is generally regarded as a day of reflection rather than celebration.

Ajman has announced the official holiday for Hijri New Year for government employees on Friday, June 27, translating into a three-day weekend. Normal working hours are expected to resume on Monday, June 30. Earlier this month, Dubai has announced the official holiday for Hijri New Year for government employees on Friday. The UAE government had earlier officially declared Friday, June 27, as a public holiday on the occasion of the Islamic New Year, marking the beginning of the Hijri year 1447 AH. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) announcement applies to public sector employees, granting them a 3-day long weekend. Similarly, private sector employees in the UAE will also get Friday, June 27, as a paid holiday for Islamic New Year. The Islamic, or Hijri, calendar is based on lunar months, and the New Year begins on the first day of Muharram, the calendar's first month. The date was confirmed in line with the approved list of official holidays for 2025, issued by the UAE Cabinet. The Hijri New Year holiday follows the long break residents enjoyed during the Eid Al Adha holidays.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Bursa Malaysia Bhd and its subsidiaries will be closed on June 27, 2025, in conjunction with the national public holiday to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year. In a statement today, Bursa Malaysia said the exchange and its subsidiaries would resume operations on June 30, 2025 (Monday). The holiday marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar year 1447 AH. According to a circular issued by DGHR, the holiday does not apply to employees working shifts or those involved in providing essential public services or managing vital infrastructure. Kuwait announces Islamic New Year holiday
The Kuwaiti Cabinet has declared Thursday, June 26 as a public holiday on the occasion of the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year). All ministries and state bodies in the country will suspend work on that day and resume work on Sunday, June 29. The decision was made by the Cabinet during its weekly meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah.
