Man on scooter dies after hit by SacRT light rail train in Sacramento
A man riding a scooter died after he was hit by a Sacramento light rail train on Monday afternoon, officials said. Sacramento Regional Transit said the man was riding a scooter in the area of 19th and T streets around 1:40 p.m. when he failed to heed the flashing warning signals, bells and lowered crossing arms. The oncoming train collided with the man, SacRT said. Officials said the man on the scooter was possibly wearing headphones. SacRT said the rail service is temporarily suspended between 13th Street and City College stations. The man's identification has not been released.

Eurostar Trains Delayed and Canceled After Cable Theft
Eurostar, the high-speed train service that connects Britain with continental Europe, was facing a second consecutive day of severe delays after cables were stolen and two people were hit by a train near its station in Lille, France, the company said. The train operator said there were delays and last-minute cancellations on Wednesday after a 'cable theft' near the station in northern France, and advised passengers to cancel or postpone their trips. Eurostar was also forced to cancel routes on Tuesday, after two people died on its high-speed line between Lille and Paris. The problems come during a time of heightened fears about sabotage in Europe, and they follow several other major disruptions to European rail services because of cable theft or vandalism. In May, more than 10,000 passengers were stranded in Spain after cable was stolen. Last July, arsonists in France cut and burned cables for high-speed rail lines before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, targeting important signal stations in three different areas. Experts say that the unusually dense French rail network is especially vulnerable to sabotage, in part because it is so expansive. There was no immediate official indication as to the motivation behind the cable thefts. Aurelien Breeden contributed reporting.

RMT confirmed discussions were ongoing. The firm has previously said the problem it faced on Sundays was it was contractually outside the working week for North West services include routes from Barrow and Windermere to Manchester Airport, and from Barrow to Williams said the reduced service currently relied on volunteers. "The success criteria for us is about achieving a truly seven-day railway," she said. She said the aim for the company was to ensure no more than 2% of services were being cancelled by the end of 2027 and that 90% of trains arrived within three minutes of said it was conducting "detailed discussions with Northern Trains to bring together working practices for conductors from three legacy companies into a single, modern agreement"."The talks aim to ensure consistency, reflect advances in technology, and support reliable services throughout the week", a spokesperson proposals would be subject to government approval, they follows Northern being issued a breach notice by the Department for Transport (DfT) in July 2024 for cancelling too many trains.
