Rockwall, Heath ranked in top 50 in Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine

Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath both made it into the top 50 teams in the Class 6A state rankings as compiled by Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. The 65th summer edition of the magazine has been released and as usual it features extensive coverage of Texas college and high school football. Advertisement Rockwall, which went 6-6 last season, ranked 28th, while the Heath Hawks, who are coming off a 4-6 season, were ranked 44th. Southlake Carroll, which returns 10 starters on offense and nine on defense, earned the No. 1 preseason ranking. The Dragons went 15-1 last season. North Crowley, a 16-0 state champion in 2024, is ranked No. 2 though returning only two starters on offense. Duncanville, 13-1 in 2024, is ranked third, followed by perennial powers Austin Westlake and Galena Park North Shore. Those two teams won both 14 games last season. The magazine picked Longview to repeat as the District 10-6A champions, followed by Rockwall, North Forney, Heath, Forney, Tyler Legacy and Royse City. Advertisement Longview was No. 17 in the magazine's top 50 rankings and North Forney was 34th. Last year Longview went 6-0 in District 10-6A play while North Forney was 5-1, Rockwall and Forney were both 3-3, Heath and Legacy were both 2-4 and Royse City was 0-6. The magazine picked Forney running back Javian Osborne, who rushed for 1,239 yards and 22 touchdowns last season, as the preseason Offensive Most Valuable Player for District 10-6A and Longview defensive lineman Krystin Williams as the Defensive MVP. Osborne also earned second-team honors on the magazine's Super Team on offense. Rockwall wide receiver-defensive back Jack Duckworth made the magazine's top 10 list of athletes who are college prospects. Legend Bey of North Forney also made the top 10 list. Advertisement Duckworth caught 34 passes for 472 yards and five touchdowns last season for the Yellowjackets and returned 13 kickoffs for 245 yards with a long return of 60 yards. He also intercepted a pass on defense. The magazine also picks an FBS Power Poll of the top college football teams. Texas, whose head coach Steve Sarkisan is on the cover, was ranked No. 1 followed by Texas Tech, Texas A&M, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Houston, UT-San Antonio, North Texas and the Texas State Bobcats. The magazine ranked the Southland Conference with Incarnate Word first, followed by Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, McNeese, Southeastern Louisiana, East Texas A&M, Nicholls, Houston Christian, Northwestern State and UT-Rio Grande Valley. ETAMU wide receiver Christian Jourdain was listed as one of the Southland's 'Five Players to Know.' Jourdain led the Lions last season with 51 catches for 683 yards and six TDs.

Canadiens' Broadcast Ranked 10th In The League By The Athletic

The Athletic published its ranking of the various NHL broadcasts on Monday, as voted by fans. Team's fans were asked to rate their favourite team's broadcast on a scale from one to five and to vote on as many national broadcasts as they wanted. Then, the values were computed, and the rankings were born. The Boston Bruins come in last at number 32, with the Pittsburgh Penguins coming in at 31, and the Toronto Maple Leafs wrapping up the bottom three. At the other end of the spectrum, the Detroit Red Wings took first place, followed by the Seattle Kraken and the Utah Mammoth. As for the Montreal Canadiens, they came in at number 10. Canadiens Intriguing Prospect Can't Be Slept OnThe Hockey News Awards- Montreal Canadiens EditionTwo Canadiens' Stars in Young Stars Highlight Reel As can be expected, the Canadiens are a unique market in this regard, as they offer both French and English broadcasts, which are further split into National and Local games. In English, TSN provides local coverage, while Sportsnet offers national coverage. In French, TVA Sports receives the national broadcast, while RDS receives the local one. RDS' duo of Pierre Houde to run the play-by-play and Marc Denis provides the colour commentary. For years, French-speaking fans have said that the Houde-Denis duo is the best in the business, and they voted accordingly. It seems to be a valid opinion since Houde was honored with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame this past season. In his first post-induction game, Houde was celebrated in the Jacques Beauchamp media room with presents and speeches from Chantal Machabee, who was one of his colleagues for years, and France Margaret Belander. He was given a number 50 jersey (representing the number of years in the field), autographed by the players, an autographed Guy Lafleur Gin bottle, and scotch glasses. Members of the media were also all given a special Molson Beer featuring the play-by-play experts. The unanimous praise for their broadcast boosted the Canadiens' ratings here. Big Ten media preseason poll: Preston Stone won't be enough for David Braun's Wildcats

released their 15th annual Preseason Big Ten Football Rankings Monday morning, naming Penn State the top contender for the first time. The Nittany Lions, who haven't won the conference title since 2016, received 11 of 25 first-place votes and will rely heavily on third-year starting quarterback Drew Allar. A strong quarterback will make or break a handful of Big Ten programs this season, including David Braun's Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern finished No. 16 of 18 conference teams last season, with a 4-8 (2-7 Big Ten) record, and this season isn't looking much better. Stephen Means reported Northwestern is expected to finish at No. 17 in conference, above only Purdue. A total of 24 voters participated in the rankings, which began in 2010 when the Big Ten stopped organizing the poll. Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin and Maryland all received last-place votes. The ranking is an unfortunate strike against a Wildcat football program that's made a considerable offseason acquisition in Preston Stone. A transfer quarterback out of SMU, Stone signed to play for Braun back in December. However, the addition of an experienced starter wasn't enough to boost voters' expectations for Northwestern this season, given other factors at play. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp The Wildcats' 20-athlete 2025 recruiting class is ranked No. 17 in the Big Ten and No. 66 nationally, though none are four- or five-star recruits, per 247Sports. This season, Northwestern is set for tough road games against Tulane, Penn State and Illinois, as well as challenging home matchups with Oregon and Michigan.
