Garrett Wilson deal to impact Seahawks talks with Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba enjoyed a breakout season in 2024. Smith-Njigba led the offense in every major receiving category, posting 100 receptions for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. After parting with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett this offseason, there's no questioning who the Seahawks' go-to receiver is for the foreseeable future. Smith-Njigba is entering his third professional season this year. General manager John Schneider will be tasked with making a decision on JSN's fifth-year option next offseason. The Seahawks will almost certainly exercise that option, keeping Smith-Njigba under contract through 2027. He'll become eligible to sign an extension next summer. Advertisement Eventual negotiations will be altered by the current happenings in the market. The New York Jets signed wide receiver Garrett Wilson to a four-year, $130 million contract extension that includes $90 million guaranteed earlier this week. At over $31 million per season, Wilson will be one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL. Smith-Njigba was certainly pleased to see Wilson's extension. Smith-Njigba will aim to reach the $30 million per campaign average mark on his eventual extension as well. His 2025 form will have a massive impact on the direction of eventual negotiations. The Seahawks have JSN on a team-friendly contract through 2027, but his payday will eventually come. Randy Moss Makes Opinion On Tyreek Hill Extremely Clear
Randy Moss Makes Opinion On Tyreek Hill Extremely Clear originally appeared on The Spun. When it comes to the NFL's greatest receivers it doesn't take long until you get to Randy Moss. The former Vikings-Patriots great is fourth on the all-time list in both receiving yards and touchdowns, and his freakish athleticism and ability to highpoint the football helped turn his name into a verb: "You got Mossed!" Advertisement Now with the Hall of Famer's most recent health scare behind him, his restaurant Crisppi's is partnering with the Miami Dolphins. And that led to the 48-year-old giving his opinion on one of the team's biggest stars. "I think it's going to be pretty interesting," Moss said of the Fins' upcoming season. "Bringing Minkah [Fitzpatrick] back, trading Jalen [Ramsey] — with all the drama and things off the field that's been going on, I'm just looking for a big year for this offense — Tua [Tagovailoa] and Tyreek Hill, mainly." However when asked where he'd rank Hill among the all-time wideouts, Moss said he doesn't. "He's nowhere all-time," Moss stated. "Where is he at in today's game? Tyreek Hill is probably top five. I put him top five." Advertisement The six-time Pro Bowler also talked about where he places himself in the wide receiver GOAT conversation. And while he admits that Jerry Rice is the politically correct answer, "If we're talking real football, where I knock your ass out, it's me." (Photo by)Hill actually has more career accolades than Moss in terms of Pro Bowls, All-Pro teams and his 2019 Super Bowl ring. But after posting his worst ever full-season stats as a starter last year, some of the shine has been taken off of Tyreek's current standing. With that said, Hill will still go down as one of the most dangerous players of his era. Where that places him all-time though — that remains to be seen. Chiefs' Receiver Room Tipped To Be 'A-Tier' In 2025
Chiefs' Receiver Room Tipped To Be 'A-Tier' In 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs' offense in 2025 looms as a key watch with several players returning who hardly featured last year. Advertisement Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown are the two names we are eager to see mix in with Xavier Worthy, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Travis Kelce. Some aren't sold on the Chiefs in 2025, with the offense from last year, which struggled at times, still fresh in the mind ... however, others are surprisingly a little more bullish. For CBS Sports' Kyle Long, in a chat with Mike Renner on NFL on CBS, the pair ranked all pass-catching groups and put them into tiers. The Chiefs' weapons landed in the B tier for Long. "Rashee Rice was playing like a true number one before he got hurt," Long said on NFL on CBS. "Hollywood Brown obviously has some traits that people love to see at the receiver position. Xavier Worthy, if he can just slow down a little bit, so many of those explosive plays, he was just stepping out of bounds last year. Get him to figure out some spatial awareness, and you're looking at maybe an A-tier receiving group." Advertisement Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Marquise "Hollywood" BrownCharles LeClaire-Imagn Images If Rice and Brown can stay healthy, with the expected improvement from Worthy and Kelce, Patrick Mahomes is going to have quite the quartet to do damage with. We know how damaging Rice can be, plus Brown and his ability to get downfield, Worthy and his blistering speed, which we saw used on short and deep routes in 2024, and we round it off with Kelce, who is coming off a poor 2024 season and looking to rebound. Those four, if they can stay on the field and build chemistry, this Chiefs offense, which many are sleeping on, might just surprise some, and when you have Mahomes orchestrating it, good things usually happen. Mike Evans Reveals His Take on Bengals Star Ja'Marr Chase
Mike Evans Reveals His Take on Bengals Star Ja'Marr Chase originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's a new generation of receivers taking over the NFL, and they are quickly encroaching upon some of the players in league history. Advertisement Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson seems to set receiving records each season. In 2024, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase won the receiving triple crown. Fellow LSU alumni and New York Giants dynamo Malik Nabers wasn't too far behind despite bottom-barrel quarterbacking, and it seems like every offseason offers a new batch of studs to choose from. And yet, none of them hold a candle to Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran Mike Evans' production. Only Jerry Rice has as many consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (11) as Evans, and the greatest receiver to ever live is the only player with more quadruple-digit campaigns. Nobody is touching that mark any time soon; it's a matter of circumstance, luck, and a whole lot of talent. If anyone is going to break it, Chase and his connection with quarterback Joe Burrow might have the best chance. Advertisement The Buccaneers legend revealed his take on Chase in an interview with Greg Auman. 'Ja'Marr Chase. He's a guy where if you said he was better than me — I don't think anybody's better than me — but if you said him, I would understand,' Evans said. There's a very real chance that Chase's peak is greater than Evans'. The latter has never led the league in receiving or receptions. Chase did so in 2024. He also picked up a first-team All-Pro selection this past season, something Evans hasn't done through his 11-year career. For what it's worth, Chase has a long way to go to match Evans' streak of 11 seasons. He's logged at least 1,000 yards in his first four seasons. The aforementioned Burrow certainly helps his chances, as does a running mate in receiver Tee Higgins who takes some attention away. Chase will have to stay healthy to hit those marks, but few will doubt his ability to produce those kinds of seasons. Advertisement Perhaps Evans' ability to remain consistent with Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Baker Mayfield, and a host of other passers makes his record even more impressive. Chase will hope to take one step closer to Evans this year, although Cincinnati and Tampa Bay won't play in the 2025 regular season. Buccaneers Get Robbed in Top Receivers Rankings
Buccaneers Get Robbed in Top Receivers Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers know how special their receiving room is, and yet they keep looking to bolster it with young talent. Advertisement With the addition of first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka, can the Buccaneers claim the best receiving room in the league? That is the question many people have been asking this offseason. Pro Football Focus took on ranking the NFL's top receiving corps', and the Buccaneers were rightfully viewed at the very top. Only the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles were ranked ahead of Tampa Bay this offseason. "It was a coin flip between the Buccaneers and the Eagles for the top spot, as they earned equal 79.1 PFF receiving grades in 2024," PFF wrote. "But Philadelphia's top pass-catching options all placed ahead of their Tampa Bay counterparts in PFF's position rankings." Surprisingly, the Buccaneers' receiving room was ranked behind the Eagles. Philadelphia's depth is significantly weaker than people understand. Advertisement Their third-best receiver, Jahan Dotson, didn't get many touches last season. It's far different than Tampa Bay's group. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, and now Egbuka are a far better collective group than the Eagles have. Even with Brown and Smith healthy and among the league's more dominant duos, depth is incredibly important. McMillan and Egbuka would be better third options in Philly's receiving room. Dotson would be fighting for a roster spot with Tampa Bay. It's why PFF should have ranked Tampa Bay ahead of the champs in this regard.
