Turkish foreign, defense ministers to visit Pakistan Wednesday
ANKARA: Turkiye's foreign and defense ministers will visit Pakistan on Wednesday for talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss bilateral ties, regional issues, and defense industry cooperation, a Turkish diplomatic source said on Tuesday. Turkiye has strong ties with Pakistan and expressed solidarity with it during its military conflict with India in May, angering India. During the visit, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will express Turkiye's desire to deepen ties in every field and offer Ankara's support in taking steps toward regional peace, the source said. Fidan will stress the countries 'need to strengthen their cooperation in the defense industry,' the source said. Ankara also has cordial ties with India, but after its support for Pakistan, small Indian grocery shops and major online fashion retailers boycotted Turkish products, while New Delhi also canceled Turkiye-based aviation service provider Celebi clearance over 'national security' reasons.

"India's voice important in restoration of regional peace": Iranian President thanks PM Modi in phone call
New Delhi: Following the US strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the President of Iran over the phone and was briefed on the evolving situation in the region, sources said on Sunday. Pezeshkian said that, according to sources, India's voice and role were important in restoring regional peace and stability. According to sources, the phone call came from Pezeshkian and lasted for 45 minutes. During the call, Iranian President Pezeshkian described India as a friend and partner in promoting regional peace, security and stability. The Iranian President thanked the Prime Minister for India's position and call for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy. During their telephonic exchange, Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the recent escalations. Emphasising the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, PM Modi reiterated that de-escalation is imperative for ensuring long-term regional peace, security, and stability. In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote: "Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability." PM modi emphasised the need for a peaceful resolution and added, "Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability." US on Sunday launched strikes on three underground nuclear facilities in Iran. Speaking from the White House, Trump announced that America carried out "massive precision" strikes on Iran and warned the latter of further retaliation if peace was not achieved. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear programme. A statement issued by AEOI confirmed that early on Sunday morning, Iran's nuclear sites were "subjected to savage aggression--an act in violation of international laws, particularly the NPT." "This action, which violates international regulations, unfortunately took place under the indifference--and even complicity--of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," it said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the military action under the leadership of Trump, stating that Trump's bold decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities will change history. The conflict between Israel and Iran entered its ninth day on Saturday, with the US now joining in support of Israel.

Pakistan reiterates desire to resolve outstanding issues with India via dialogue
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reiterated his country's desire to resolve its outstanding issues with India, state-run media reported, as tensions simmer between the two neighbors following their armed conflict last month. India and Pakistan engaged in the worst fighting between the two countries since 1999, raising fears of the prospects of an all-out nuclear war. After both countries traded heavy fire for four days, pounding each other with missiles, fighter jets and drone strikes, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between them on May 10. Speaking to his Malaysian counterpart Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the phone, Sharif thanked him for Kuala Lumpur's 'support and balanced stance' during Pakistan's conflict with India. 'The prime minister underscored that Pakistan had always strived for regional peace and stability,' state-run Radio Pakistan said. 'He reiterated that Pakistan was ready for dialogue with India on all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir.' Sharif separately wrote on social media account X that he looks forward to Islamabad and Kuala Lumpur deepening and strengthening their bilateral ties. 'I greatly look forward to my visit to Malaysia later this year,' he wrote. Had a warm and most cordial telephone conversation with my brother, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim @anwaribrahim of Malaysia. We exchanged Eid-ul-Adha greetings and prayed for unity in the Ummah and peace in Gaza. I thanked Malaysia for its principled stance during the… — Shehbaz Sharif (@CMShehbaz) June 7, 2025 India and Pakistan, bitter rivals since they gained independence in 1947 from British rule, have fought two out of three wars over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir. Both countries administer Kashmir in parts but claim the region entirely. Pakistan accuses India of occupying Kashmir and denying its people their right to self-determination. It regularly calls on India to abide by the United Nations Security Council resolutions and hold a transparent plebiscite in the territory. India, on the other hand, accuses Pakistan of arming and funding militant separatists in the part of Kashmir it administers. Islamabad has denied the allegations and says it extends only diplomatic and moral support to the people of Indian-administered Kashmir.
