BJP reshuffles Puducherry unit, minister and three MLAs step down ahead of 2026 polls

PUDUCHERRY: The BJP on Friday initiated a major reshuffle in its Puducherry unit ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister A K Sai Saravanan Kumar resigning from the N Rangasamy-led cabinet, and three nominated MLAs — V P Ramalingam, K Venkatesan, and R B Ashok Babu — stepping down. The resignations were directed by the party's central leadership as part of a strategy to bring in new faces in the run-up to the polls. Puducherry is the BJP's only stronghold in South India, where it governs in alliance with the AINRC. Sai Saravanan Kumar, the lone Dalit minister in the cabinet, confirmed he had stepped down on the party's instructions. 'I was appointed minister on June 27 at the direction of PM Narendra Modi. I have now resigned following his directive,' he said. Assembly Speaker R Selvam confirmed that the resignations of the three nominated MLAs had been accepted and forwarded to L-G K Kailashnathan for submission to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. BJP Puducherry in-charge Nirmal Kumar Surana said the party has finalised three names for the vacant nominated MLA posts. Those in consideration include S Rajasekaran, former Congress MLA E Theepainjan and D Selvam, current BJP vice-president.

Iranian Major General Amir Hatami appointed new Army chief amid attacks from Israel: Who is he?

Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ordered the appointment of Major General Amir Hatami as Chief Commander of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of major reshuffle at Iran's military top leadership, Tehran Times reported. This comes following the assassination of General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the head of the country's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), by Israel's series of airstrikes in Iran's capital. According to an official decree on Friday, the decision was announced where Khamenei stated Hatami's 'dedication, competence, and experience' as the basis for the appointment. 'With the Army's vast pool of capable and faithful personnel, and the experience gained during the Sacred Defense and beyond, it is expected that under your command, efforts to enhance combat readiness, strengthen spiritual and ideological foundations, improve personnel welfare, and boost cooperation with other branches of the Armed Forces will accelerate,' the decree read. Hatami, 59, succeeded Hossein Dehghan and preceded Mohammad Reza Gharaei Ashtiani. He was Iran's Defense Minister from 2013 to 2021 and has now taken command of the country's regular military forces amid escalating regional tensions. He is the first defense minister with an Artesh background in over two decades, breaking a pattern in place since 1989, when the position had been exclusively held by officers from the Revolutionary Guards. Hatami studied at Imam Ali Officers' Academy, AJA University of Command and Staff, National Defense University. Iran and Israel exchanged missile and airstrikes early Saturday, after Israel carried out its largest air assault to date against its longtime adversary in an effort to halt its nuclear weapons development. In Iran, numerous explosions were heard in the capital Tehran, the semi-official Tasnim news agency report said. Iranian missiles broke through Israel's air defenses on Friday, marking a significant test for the country's defensive systems. Since the war began on October 7, 2023, Israel has faced a barrage of threats, including short-range rockets, medium-range missiles, attack drones, and ballistic missiles launched from Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Iran. The long-range ballistic missiles fired Friday night posed one of the toughest challenges yet. Iranian missiles injured 34 people in Israel, whereas Israel's strikes in Iran led to 78 deaths, leaving 329 others injured.

When is the WWE Draft 2025? Fans expect big changes after SummerSlam fallout

Image via WWE The 2025 WWE Draft may not be cancelled after all. While the annual roster shake-up traditionally follows WrestleMania in the spring, this year's edition appears to be headed for a strategic shift - possibly to September, according to multiple reports. Sources including and PWInsider suggest that WWE is considering moving the Draft to a post-SummerSlam window, aligning it with the company's season premiere episodes of RAW and SmackDown. This move would allow ongoing storylines to reach natural conclusions over the summer, while also setting the stage for a refreshed television product in the fall. Mike Johnson of PWInsider confirmed that the Draft hasn't been scrapped, saying it's simply a matter of 'where and when to do it.' The shift is reportedly part of WWE's broader strategy under Triple H's creative leadership, which has focused on long-term storytelling and smoother transitions between brands. Why WWE is holding off on the Draft The delay also appears to be influenced by recent NXT call-ups, many of whom are still finding their footing on the main roster. With WWE not in a rush to reshuffle its rosters, the focus has shifted to making sure these fresh faces get enough screen time before any major realignment occurs. Was R-Truth's Release a Work? Ilja Dragunov Return Update, Gunther's First Challenger & More Wrestling insider WrestleVotes echoed the sentiment in a Sportskeeda WrestleBinge Q&A, noting that 'they want to do it... just a date has not popped up yet.' The message is clear: WWE is still committed to a draft this year, but is carefully choosing its moment. Fans divided over format and timing Fan response on social media has been mixed. While some are relieved the Draft is still on, others have questioned its relevance. One user wrote, 'What's the point? Talent go all over the 3 brands all the time.' Another commented, 'Make sure people actually move brands this year. Last year barely anyone got drafted to a new brand.' Others are simply nostalgic for the days of the old Draft lottery machine, calling the current format 'bland.' However, there's also cautious optimism. 'Good. SmackDown needs it,' one fan posted, while another added, 'Better late than never.' If plans hold, the WWE Draft 2025 will follow SummerSlam in early August and land sometime in September, just in time for WWE's fall season reset. Until then, fans will be watching closely to see who stays, who goes - and who surprises everyone. Also Read: WWE Hall of Famer predicts Ron Killings could win World Championship
