‘Efforts being made to defame kanwariyas, term them rioters': UP CM blames ‘mentality that wants to insult heritage'
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that efforts were being made to defame kanwar pilgrims who are subjected to a media trial and termed terrorists and rioters. He said this stemmed from mentality that wants to insult India's heritage. According to a PTI report, Adityanath said those who seek to defame the kanwar 'yatris' are the same people who tried to separate the tribal community from India. The CM was speaking at a seminar on tribal icon Birsa Munda. "They conspired at every level to make them fight against India. This is the same community that always insults the faith of India and these are the same people who today want to create a situation of caste conflict by creating fake accounts on social media platforms," the UP CM said. "There is a wonderful confluence of unity. No discrimination. There is no distinction of caste, no distinction of region, no distinction of class, no difference of opinion, no difference of sect, they go chanting 'Har Har Bam Bam'. They walk 300-400 kilometres, then take water from there, put the kanwar on their shoulders and walk back in the same way with the same devotion," he added. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Haridwar and participated in the event organised at the Ganga Ghat near Om Bridge and welcomed and honoured Kanwariyas (Shiva devotees) from all over the country by washing their feet. He also participated in the Bhajan Sandhya on Thursday, an ANI report said. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, 'It is my good fortune to have had the opportunity to wash the feet of Shiva devotees, the Kanwariyas, and receive their blessings.' So far this year, more than one crore Shiva devotees have left for their respective destinations on the Kanwar Yatra. He highlighted that the Kanwar Yatra is not only a religious event but also a symbol of our faith, devotion, and Sanatan culture, and that we are fortunate to have the opportunity to serve crore of Shiva devotees every year. He said that Shiv Shakti is not a display but an internal sadhana. During the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, flowers were also showered on Shiva devotees from a helicopter in Haridwar on Thursday, ANI reported. CM Dhami appealed to the Kanwariyas that even if someone faces some difficulty, they should not create difficulty for others. (With inputs from agencies)

Amsterdam police struggled to contain violence over Israeli football fans: Report
Amsterdam police trying to contain attacks on fans of Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv in November were overwhelmed by assailants' hit-and-run tactics and rapid incitement via social media, according to a report published on Monday. The violence in the early hours of November 8, 2024, followed two days of skirmishes that saw Maccabi fans chant anti-Arab songs, vandalize a taxi and burn a Palestinian flag. The attacks left five people briefly hospitalized. Police acted with 'great commitment, flexibility and professionalism,' concluded the report by an oversight body in the justice ministry. Authorities were able to deploy 1,200 officers, drones, arrest squads, horses and water cannons but were still caught off-guard by the fast-moving events. 'Although the police acted decisively, they were also overtaken at times by the speed and unpredictability of developments,' the report noted. 'Blitz attacks by small groups of rioters, using taxis and scooters to move around quickly and target Jewish people on the streets, made different demands on the approach taken by the police.' Social media was another key factor in making the violence difficult to contain, the report said. 'People were able to spread messages and images at lightning speed, thereby heightening existing tensions,' it noted. 'Relatively minor incidents, such as the removal of a Palestinian flag by Maccabi supporters, were shared, interpreted, and magnified within minutes.' The report also criticised reactions in the immediate aftermath of the violence. Israeli President Isaac Herzog talked of an 'anti-Semitic pogrom' while Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema drew parallels between the violence and 'memories of pogroms.' She later regretted this, saying the word had been used as propaganda. 'What stands out is the speed with which everyone expressed an opinion in the aftermath of the events,' said the report. 'Politicians, administrators, and the media immediately jumped to conclusions, without having any insight into exactly what had occurred.'

ICE breakout in New Jersey symptom of Democratic ‘chaos' across the country, local GOP leader says
While Newark Democratic Mayor Ras Baraka has blamed the Trump administration for a breakout Thursday night at a local ICE detention center, New Jersey GOP leader Kenny Gonzalez criticized Baraka and the Democratic Party, saying it has been sowing "chaos" across the country that emboldens criminal illegals and violent rioters. "It all started a few months ago here in New Jersey, when Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested for attempting to trespass into the facility and Congresswoman LaMonica McIver assaulting an ICE agent," Gonzalez told Fox News Digital. "This type of behavior from Democrat left-wing politicians tells the general public that it's OK to do these kinds of things." Four migrants escaped from the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark Thursday evening after an apparent disturbance inside the building, a senior Homeland Security official confirmed to Fox News. Immigration attorney Mustafa Cetin told around 50 detainees at the facility pushed down a dormitory wall after becoming agitated when meals were delayed. To add to the chaos, at approximately 9 p.m., a group of protesters blocked an SUV from exiting an ancillary gate at Delaney Hall, forcing it to back into the facility. PIX11 News reported that the escapees were seen running near Turnpike 78 and Delancey Street. Ice Officers Assaulted During Raid That Nabbed 70 Illegal Immigrants At Meat Plant: Dhs The Department of Homeland Security identified the four escaped migrants on Friday as "public safety threats." The escaped detainees have been identified as Honduran nationals Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes and Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez and Colombian nationals Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada and Andres Pineda-Mogollon. Bautista-Reyes was previously arrested for aggravated assault and terroristic threats. The incident comes just two days after McIver was indicted on three federal charges from a previous visit to Delaney Hall May 9. McIver was with Baraka and others during what was described as an oversight visit. Baraka was initially charged with trespassing, but the charge was later dropped. Baraka criticized the federal government, saying, "This entire situation lacks sufficient oversight of every basic detail, including local zoning laws and fundamental constitutional rights. "This is why city officials and our congressional delegation need to be allowed entry to observe and monitor and why private prisons pose a very real problem to our state and its Constitution," he added. "We demand immediate answers and clear communication with the GEO Group and the Department of Homeland Security. We must put an end to this chaos and not allow this operation to continue unchecked." "To watch the videos of what went on yesterday that clearly show that unhinged protesters were interfering with the ICE agents that were on scene, showing that they were stopping transport vehicles from getting in and out of the facility. … The fact that Ras Baraka's response is to blame it on the federal government and the state is very, very, very dangerous and shows a lack of accountability." With more protests planned for the weekend, Gonzalez worries Newark may still not be in the clear. Gonzalez criticized Baraka and other Democratic leaders for having an ideology by which "they see the inmates as victims, and they see themselves as heroes for all of this grandstanding and obstructing that they've been doing. "The good news is they are the minority, and the majority of New Jerseyans are not very happy with what's going on," he noted. "It's time for Gov. [Phil] Murphy to allow law enforcement to do its job and stop what's going on over there, because we know the mayor's not going to do it."
