Almost 70,000 Aussie vehicles recalled by popular car manufacturer

Toyota Australia has issued a safety recall for almost 70,000 of its vehicles. The cars were produced between July 2022 and April 2025, although not all vehicles made during that time will have been affected. Owners will be contacted by Toyota dealers, but are also encouraged to check the VIN (vehicle identification number) of their vehicles to see if they are affected by the recall. Models in the recall include Camrys, Corollas and RAV4's among others. What is the reason for the Toyota recall? Toyota has initiated the recall in vehicles that have a 12.3-inch display on the instrument panel that shows information such as warning and indicator lights and vehicle gauges. There is a possibility that the display can be blank when the vehicle starts and will remain in this state. Although Toyota owners can continue to drive their vehicles, Toyota Australia requests that owners contact their local/preferred Toyota dealership to arrange recall completion. In the event owners turn on their vehicle and the combination meter remains blank, please contact your local/preferred dealer. NHTSA urges Volvo owners to complete urgent brake recall

July 17 (Reuters) - The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Thursday asked owners of some vehicles of Swedish automaker Volvo ( opens new tab to urgently complete a safety recall over a brake failure issue. Volvo issued a recall in June for 11,469 vehicles of a number of models due to a loss of brake function. The remedy for the Volvo recall is to update vehicle software through an over-the-air download, which as of July 15 has not been done by about 1,000 vehicles, the NHTSA said in a statement. "Without this recall remedy, an affected vehicle could completely lose its ability to brake while going downhill," it said.

Land Rover's Stylish SUV Faces an Invisible Danger The Range Rover Evoque is a stylish gateway into the Land Rover lineup, and has been a constant sight in urban neighborhoods and suburban driveways since its introduction. However, if you own a 2021 through 2025 model, a hidden defect may pose a serious risk to you and your passengers. Jaguar Land Rover North America has announced a safety recall for 20,999 units of the Evoque, built between July 10, 2020, and October 7, 2024. According to the documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a potentially defective passenger airbag may have been folded incorrectly during assembly, increasing the likelihood of a tear during deployment. 0:06 / 0:09 What is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry? Watch More This isn't just a technical quirk. A torn airbag may offer reduced protection in the event of a crash. Worse still, it could release hot gases into the cabin, potentially causing burns to front-seat occupants. Jaguar Land Rover says it has not received any injury reports so far, but the risk is high enough that the company is taking action. The Fault Took Years to Surface The airbag problem traces back to a component supplied by Joyson Safety Systems in Hungary. Engineers at Jaguar Land Rover first began investigating the issue in mid-2023 after noticing irregularities during internal testing and abnormal airbag deployments – a similar problem from over a decade ago. A cross-functional team was formed, with regular reviews continuing into 2024. As testing ramped up, the team explored everything from inflator behavior and dashboard temperatures to how direct sunlight might affect the fascia components. Even after months of analysis, no clear defect had been confirmed. But by June 2025, physical inspections of unused airbag modules finally revealed differences in the folding of the airbag fabric – something that could explain inconsistent test results and abnormal deployments. That finding was enough. On June 30, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover's Recall Determination Committee ruled the defect a safety risk, triggering a full-scale voluntary recall under NHTSA campaign number 25V454. Of note, 100% or all of the units produced within the set dates are affected by the defect. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Source: Range Rover Free Repairs Are Coming, But Don't Wait to Act Owners of affected Evoque models will start receiving official recall notices on August 29, 2025. Land Rover dealers will replace the passenger-side airbag module and associated components free of charge. If you've already paid for a related repair out of warranty, you may be eligible for reimbursement. Until then, there won't be any dashboard warnings to the owners. They can also check their VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup tool when available, or contact your local Land Rover dealer. A faulty airbag is the last thing owners want to leave to chance. Recalled Anker power banks could ‘catch fire', safety watchdog warns

Consumers have been warned to stop using a range of power banks immediately amid fears they could overheat and catch fire. Four models of Anker power banks, which were sold on Amazon, eBay and the Anker website, have been recalled by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's product safety watchdog. Incidents of the power banks catching alight have happened overseas and caused property damage. More than one million Anker power banks have been recalled internationally. Consumers were warned of the risk of serious burn injuries that could occur if their device was to overheat and catch fire. The portable electronic charging devices were sold for more than a year throughout the country, and internationally. The affected power banks were sold from 1 December 2023 to 13 June 2025. The models include the Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W), Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, built in USB-C cable), Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, built USB-C and Lightning cable) and the Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, built in USB-C cable). Anyone who had bought the devices was advised to stop using them immediately. Consumers can check their powerbank's serial number on the Anker website to determine if they are affected, and register for a replacement. The power banks will then need to be disposed of safely.

Baby products urgently pulled off shelves due to fears of choking, strangulation, death

The ACCC has urgently recalled a number of children's products due to life-threatening safety fears. Baby bottle self feeding devices, which were sold by Ezonedeal online nationally between May 9, 2024 and April 10, 2025, have been urgently pulled from shelves as they pose a serious risk of choking and death. The products are available in cyan and pink, with the product codes Z3007 and Z3008. The bottle feeding device is designed to position or prop the bottle above the baby's head while they're on their back, allowing the liquid to flow into the baby's mouth without assistance from a caregiver. The ACCC said there was a 'risk of serious injury or death from choking, aspiration pneumonia, suffocation and ear infections'. 'There have been reports of infant fatalities associated with the use of baby bottle self-feeding devices,' the statement read. An infant using the bottle feeding device cannot stop the flow of the bottle or pull away from the incoming liquid. 'The milk may continue to flow before the baby can swallow it,' the recall read. 'This can lead to gagging or choking, even when supervised. Choking can be silent, meaning caregivers may not notice it is happening.' Infants can also suffer from ear infections while feeding on their back, as the milk and bacteria pools in the back of the mouth, which is connected to the ear. 'Ear infections can lead to long term damage and an increased risk of hearing or speech problems,' the recall read. Customers with the product have been told to stop using the product immediately and dispose of it safely so it cannot be used by anyone else. Customers can contact Ezonedeal for a full refund or store credit if it has been sold or gifted to another person The ACCC have also urgently recalled car seat head support straps, also available for purchase on Ezonedeal online nationally between October 18 2021 and November 1 2022. They are available in blue and red with the product codes Z1451 and Z1758. The car seat straps, which are intended to keep a child's head secure as they ride in the back seat of the vehicle, aims to stop the child from slumping forward if they fall asleep. However, the ACCC have pulled the items off the shelves due to fears of damaging a child's spinal cord by altering their head and spine, and cause further risk of strangulation and suffocation. 'Car seat head straps can increase the risk of spinal cord injury or death by altering head and neck alignment during a crash,' the recall read. 'They may also pose a suffocation or strangulation risk if they slip around the child's mouth or neck.' Injuries and incidents have already occurred, the ACCC said. There have been no reported deaths associated with the straps in Australia. However, an eight-month-old infant reportedly died in the UK due to suffocation connected to the use of a car seat head strap in August 2021. The infant was reportedly strangled by the strap, which slipped around the child's neck after the car rolled in an accident. Customers have been told to stop using the product immediately and dispose of it so others can't use it. Those with the product can contact Ezonedeal for a full refund or store credit.
