Scrapyard worker killed while drinking with colleague
Sentul police chief Sukarno Zahari said the deceased was found shirtless with a parang in one of his hands and injuries on his head, shoulder, neck and chin.(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A 37-year-old Malaysian man is believed to have been murdered by his colleague while they were drinking alcohol at the scrapyard where they worked on Saturday night. Sentul police chief Sukarno Zahari said the owner of the scrapyard at Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, called at around 12.49am yesterday to inform the cops that his workers were involved in an argument. Upon their arrival, police found the victim shirtless with a parang in one of his hands and injuries on his head, shoulder, neck and chin. Paramedics confirmed his death at the scene. 'Investigations found that the deceased and the suspect, a foreigner, were workers at the scrapyard. Before the incident, they both were drinking alcoholic beverages at the scrapyard,' Sukarno said in a statement. Police are looking for the suspect, who fled the scene after the incident. Sukarno said investigations are being held under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

West Bromwich couple 'prisoners' in home due to scrapyard fumes
A couple living close to a Black Country scrapyard have said odours, smoke and layers of black soot leave them feeling like "prisoners" and afraid for their health. Residents near Enablelink Metal Recycling in West Bromwich said fumes had been unbearable for two years. Debbie and Gary Griffin are considering moving home after living there for 30 years."[The last 18 months] has been really terrible, so draining and some days I can't even get out of bed," Mrs Griffin company said it had invested "hundred of thousands of pounds" to mitigate issues and that everything it had done had been "approved by the Environment Agency." While much of the country basked in the sun during last week's heat wave, the Griffins stayed indoors avoiding fumes, dust and noise - making Debbie feel like a prisoner in her own home."You get up on a nice day but can't go out because of the fibres, you can't go out and peg your washing or even enjoy your garden - it's awful."You can smell the petrol smell and it is getting worse, I feel like a prisoner in my own home," she said. Mr Griffin said the impact the scrapyard was having went beyond disturbance."I come home from work most nights and she is in tears, it is hard to hear her cry."She wants to move because of it all but I think why should we move we've been here 30 years," he couple said they became aware of the nearby scrapyard after a fire there 18 months had blocked a vent and bought a new front door to attempt to stop dust seeping in but nothing seemed to work."I taste it in the back of my mouth and I think 'what is it doing to my health?'"I'm always wiping away dust, always smelling and tasting the fumes and it is constant," Mrs Griffin added. 'Nobody is listening' The Environment Agency (EA) said it was aware of ongoing odour issues and had advised the operators to work within the environmental site permits and Griffin said more needed to be done by the EA to see an improvement."If the EA are recording high levels [of fumes] on certain days why has it not been shut down but allowed to continue?"Nobody is listening," he Council said its officers had visited the site in December and the business highlighted proposed works to improve managing director of the scrapyard, Josh Long, said: "We are constantly talking to our neighbours."We have sites across the Midlands and this is the only one where we get complaints. "We have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds in the past 12 months to mitigate the situation. "Everything we do is approved and regulated by the Environment Agency." Abandoned UK car graveyard where fleet of 90s icons left to rot – including classic Cadillac & discontinued favourite
A HAUNTING graveyard of rotting vintage vehicles has been captured in the British countryside. Images show rusting motors lined up, including a nostalgic 90s Cadillac, in various states of disrepair. 2 2 The scrapyard, which inhabits a crumbling UK farm, also includes dusty Micras and Volvos. The latter takes up most of the space, where a lineup of once eye-catching 240s and 244s eerily sit. Some of them don badges and stickers from their last days on the road. One Volvo in particular is likely a more recent addition as it sports a fresh-looking exhaust warning sticker. But others have seen better days. Some have been stacked, used to prop up even more scrap, their roofs caved in under the weight of other forgotten vehicles. And viewers may have to squint to identify a left-hand-drive Cadillac buried beneath overgrown bramble. This isn't the first time that classic cars have been left to rot in a barn. Over 40 abandoned motors from manufacturers such as BMW, Ford, Rover and Volvo were found in an open barn in the UK. A fleet of dilapidated fire engines covered in mould and peeling red paint were also found. Kyle found the graveyard hidden away behind dense vegetation near the home of elderly couple Brian and Barbara. Other images show old tractors and JCBs scattered across the property, giving it an eerie abandoned atmosphere. He also found a BMW 635 CSI, once a sign of luxury, slowly being reclaimed by nature. With iconic styling and nicknamed 'shark nose' the motor was very much the symbol of the BMW range after being introduced in 1978. Kyle's visit took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon Brian himself who revealed his hopes for the future. He said: "Brian has full intentions of one day being able to restore this high car collection, but given his age of 70+, I highly doubt he will get around to restoring all the cars and fire trucks. "He has been victim to some of the cars being smashed to bits by youths."

Firefighters tackle vehicles alight in Barkham scrapyard blaze

Fire continues to rage at scrap yard in Gravesend
More than two dozen firefighters continue to tackle a blaze at a scrap yard in Kent which broke out more than 24 hours Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said it was called to the London Scrap Terminal in Northfleet Mill in Crete Hall Road, Gravesend, shortly after 02:00 BST on Tuesday morning, 25 fire fighters were still working to put out the "deep seated" fire, which has seen an estimated 5,000 tonnes of scrap metal caught fire service is asking residents nearby to keep windows closed as there is heavy smoke in the area.
