Georgia football schedule with the season just one month away!

Georgia Bulldogs fans, we are almost there! Georgia kicks off the 2025 college football season just one month from today! The Bulldogs open the 2025 season against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday, Aug. 30. While Marshall may not be the most exciting season opener, college football will be back and this Georgia team has a ton of interesting storylines entering Week 1. The Dawgs are breaking in a new starting quarterback in Gunner Stockton. Georgia is leaning on a combination of young players and transfers to rebuild after having 13 players selected in the 2025 NFL draft (second-most of any college football program). The 2025 edition of Georgia opens the season against two non-Power Four opponents, which will give Georgia plenty of time to gel. We'll find out a lot about Georgia in Week 3 when the Bulldogs travel to play the Tennessee Volunteers in their SEC opener. Football: Wellington AFC lose season opener to Helston Athletic

Wellington AFC suffered a 2-1 defeat in their season opener against Helston Athletic. The away game in Cornwall, on Saturday, July 26, saw the Tangerines, under interim manager Tim Legg, lose to a team relegated from the Southern League. Legg fielded a starting line-up composed entirely of last season's players, while five new signings remained on the bench. In a match with few clear opportunities, Helston took the lead in the 17th minute when Ollie Redd finished off Liam Eddy's assist. Wellington's struggle continued into the second half as they were temporarily reduced to ten men due to Miles Quick's sin binning. Helston capitalised on this advantage, doubling their lead in the 71st minute as Matt Searle netted after a defensive lapse by Wellington. However, the Tangerines refused to go down without a fight. Midfielder Glen Wright gave Wellington a glimmer of hope in the 85th minute, scoring with a superb long-range effort. Substitute Oscar Albano almost equalised shortly after, but his shot was parried away by Helston's goalkeeper, Morgan Jones. Despite Wellington's late surge, Helston held on for the win and nearly scored again in the dying moments of the match. The fixture was attended by 210 spectators. Wellington's starting XI consisted of Jack McAndrews, Josh Lukins, Tom Stone, Mark Cornish, Alex Cherry, Jack Winsor, Wright, Sam Towler, Nathan Byrne, James De Selincourt, and Quick. Four substitutes - Albano, Alfie Slough, William Curtis, and Ryan Upham - made appearances during the match, while Jack Alcock remained unused.

High-profile game ahead for 49ers

Next week, UNC Charlotte's 49ers football team starts fall camp, beginning the one-month countdown to the season opener. The 49ers' 2025 debut marks a first for the school: playing at Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers. On Aug. 29, Charlotte will play Appalachian State University at the NFL stadium, kicking off at 7 p.m. on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. It's part of the annual Duke's Mayo Classic series of early-season college football games. ESPNU will air the game, which brings more of a spotlight because the schedule is much busier on Aug. 28 (the day before) and Aug. 30 (the day after). 'We're seeing a lot of excitement,' Miller Yoho, spokesperson at the Charlotte Sports Foundation, the nonprofit that runs the Duke's Mayo Classic, told CBJ. 'A Friday night prime-time game will be special.' The sports foundation embraces regional rivalries like Charlotte-Appalachian State, Yoho added, pointing to the easy proximity for both schools' fans. Tennessee will open fall training camp July 30 ahead of its 2025 football season. The Vols' season opener is slated for Aug. 30 against Syracuse. The Aflac Kickoff between the Vols and Orange will be contested at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Tennessee will have a new starting quarterback in 2025. Fifth-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed the Vols' quarterback competition at SEC media days between Joey Aguilar, Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre. 'We will have a competition at the quarterback position, three guys inside of that room, really proud of what they've done,' Heupel said. 'Joey, since he got there in May, Merklinger and George MacIntyre, what those three guys have done since they've been on campus. They've taken the summer, developed relationships, rapport with the guys around them, their ability to compete in a positive way with each other in the meeting room and on the field. Their ability to have leadership traits and to continue to grow in that. I'm really excited about getting on the field with those guys.' Tennessee will also replace its starting running back in Dylan Sampson.
