Jersey Airport security threat came hours before evacuation
Ports of Jersey was emailed hours before action was taken about a possible security threat that led to 300 passengers being evacuated from the airport on 5 March, it has of Jersey told the external relations minister that an email detailing a threat was sent to the customer enquires email address at 23:16 GMT on 4 that email was not seen until the morning of 5 March as the account was only monitored "during the operational hours of the airport".The statement went on to say that the threat "was identified on 05 March 2025 during the standard airport opening procedures" and a decision was "taken to evacuate the terminal building". Deputy Renouf, who asked the question about what date and time a communication was received, said that "a bomb threat to the airport [which] went undetected for many hours because it was received out of hours" was "deeply concerning".He said: "The consequences of failing to spot the warning could have been horrendous."As it is, hundred of passengers and staff were inconvenienced, whereas, if the threat had been assessed earlier, when the threat was received, that might have been avoided."Renouf went on to say that it was "a little short of scandalous that it is only now, under sustained questioning from the media and from politicians, that Ports are admitting that the bomb threat went undetected for many hours".When approached by the BBC, Ports of Jersey said: "We are unable to give any more details of the specifics of this threat due to laws which govern aviation security."As with any security incident, we cannot comment any further on this matter or actions taken." The BBC also approached the government but it had no further comment to make.

Iran used drug traffickers to stoke trouble in France, says minister
PARIS, June 22 (Reuters) - France has evidence that Iran has used intermediaries in the past to hire drug traffickers to carry out activities in France on its behalf and could do so again, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said on Sunday. France is on heightened alert following U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities overnight. "Iran uses proxies that are often linked to drug traffickers. They get a contract and don't even know that the contract is linked to the Iranian regime," Retailleau told LCI television. "But that's the modality used by Iran on (our)national territory." Retailleau did not say what activities had been carried out in France and gave no specific evidence. Iran's embassy was not immediately available for comment. "It's very simple. These are contracts through intermediaries that don't link back to the regime," Retailleau said. Highlighting the heightened security threat, Retailleau also referred to a foiled plot in July 2018 to blow up an opposition rally near Paris where several Iranians were arrested after a joint Franco-German-Belgian operation. The plot was led by Vienna-based Iranian diplomat Assadolah Assadi and three others, according to court documents. Assadi, who French officials said was running an Iranian state intelligence network and was acting on orders from Tehran, was sentenced in Belgium to a 20-year prison term in 2021. He was exchanged in May 2023 for four Europeans held in Iran. Iran has repeatedly denied carrying out destabilising activities in Europe.

The Trump White House has repeatedly sounded an alarm about visitors with ties to China's Communist Party coming to the United States, arguing that they are a potential security threat. But the administration appears to have literally left the door open to a member of a Chinese government group when it went along with a plan to give the biggest purchasers of President Trump's digital currency access to the president and the White House. Mr. Trump launched a so-called memecoin, a type of cryptocurrency, just days before his inauguration. To bolster sales, the president's business partners created a contest in April, offering the coin's top buyers a tour of the White House and a private dinner with Mr. Trump at his Virginia golf club. One of those buyers was He Tianying, who is a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, according to government documents in China examined by The New York Times. That government group, referred to as the C.P.P.C.C., is an advisory body that seeks to broaden the Communist Party's influence and solicit support from influential people in Chinese society. Mr. He, who was registered at the Trump event as a resident of Hong Kong, advises the Chinese government through his role as a delegate of the Fangshan C.P.P.C.C., a district of Beijing. He is listed as a member of the organization's science and technology committee. Cops foil ‘Lee Rigby-style' plot to behead British paratrooper as families on airbase told ‘protect your kids'
COPS have reportedly uncovered a plot to behead a British paratrooper, with army families warned to be "vigilant". An image of the suspect was circulated by security at a base in Essex. 2 2 Bases in Colchester, where the two Parachute Regiment battalions are stationed, have tightened their security. The Ministry of Defence confirmed an ongoing incident is being investigated. Nottinghamshire Police intercepted online messages and are looking into the threat. It is not yet known whether anyone has been detained. Military staff at the Colchester base have been warned not to wear any army uniforms or clothing. There are around 3,500 troops and 750 civilian workers at the base, and both personnel and their families have been warned to be careful. According to the Mail, the instructions to gate security staff read: "Urgent. All, please disseminate to all your people in camp. "We have received warning that a man has made threats against members of the Para Regt and wants to carry out a 'Lee Rigby' style attack. "The SCC [Security Control Centre] and main gate have been informed but ensure no Para Regt/military clothing is worn outside camp and remain vigilant." The MOD confirmed it is aware of an "online threat". The Sun understands the plot is now being investigated by by Nottingham Police. An Army spokesperson said: "The safety and wellbeing of our personnel is our top priority. "We are aware of an online threat, which is being investigated by the civilian police. "Personnel are always advised to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the Royal Military Police." Lee Rigby was beheaded outside a Royal Artillery barracks in London twelve years ago. His death in Woolwich, South East London, sent shock waves across the nation. The 25-year-old was a drummer in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. He was returning to Woolwich barracks after working at the Tower of London when he was spotted by his killers in Wellington Street at around 2.20pm. Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale had circled the barracks in a blue Vauxhall Tigra for an hour hunting for a victim. As Lee crossed the road, the pair spotted his Help 4 Heroes hoodie and mowed him down in the car. The killers then leapt out of the vehicle and began stabbing and hacking at Lee's bod y with knives and a meat cleaver in an assault so fierce they almost decapitated him. Then they dragged his body into the road, where brave passer-by Ingrid Loyau-Kennett tried to shield him from further blows. Adebolajo told onlookers to call the police and urged them to film him as he launched into a rant, his hands soaked in Lee's blood. The pair waited for armed cops to arrive, then charged at the patrol car hoping to be martyred. They were both shot and injured. on July 4 2017. Ten years on, Lee's mum Lyn Rigby has opened up about life without her beloved son. She told GMB she still has a picture of Lee next to her bed and says "good morning" to him each morning as a "focus to get up". Lyn added: "At family occasions when we all get together on a celebration, there's always an empty chair there for Lee at the dining table. "That's just what we do." The mum also revealed how she is sure her son can hear her when she speaks to him. She said strange things have happened at home and that she can feel Lee hugging her at night telling her to carry on. Lyn added: "Things happen in the house, you know, things can fly off the windowsill or the mantlepiece."

Evening Edition: Israeli Embassy Staffers Killed In D.C. Terror Attack
