Paul Shankey steps down as Waterford football boss

Waterford GAA are looking for a new senior football manager. In a statement released on Thursday morning it was announced that Paul Shankey had decided to step down after two seasons in charge rather than exercise an option for a third year. A former All-Ireland medallist with Meath in 1999, Shankey, who by his own account has lived longer in Waterford than in his own county, led his adopted county to a first win in the Munster championship since 2010 when they defeated Tipperary. This year, Tipp turned the tables and Waterford went on to lose all three matches in the Tailteann Cup. Waterford GAA chair, Neil Moore, commented: 'We extend our sincere thanks to Paul for his commitment and service to Waterford football. His contribution over the past two years has been valued, and we wish him every success in the future.' READ MORE According to the statement: 'The process to appoint a new senior football team management will now begin. Waterford GAA will not be making any further comment at this time.'

CELTIC CONFIDENTIAL: Can club's latest steal from Fulham hit the heights reached by Dembele... and are Bhoys prepared to push the boat out for Miller?

Callum Osmand laid it out there six months ago that his New Year resolution for 2025 was to gatecrash the world of senior men's football — and that should let everyone know that he's not interested in just making up the numbers at Celtic. The 19-year-old striker's contract at Fulham is about to expire and the Scottish champions look to be at the head of the queue for his services.

Lauren Fitzpatrick says there is more to come from Tipperary

Tipperary captain Lauren Fitzpatrick says she is proud of the progress the county has made in ladies' football over the years. Now in her 11th season, Fitzpatrick's performances between the sticks for Tipperary have grown alongside her team, who have more than held their own in senior football. Advertisement So far in 2025, Tipperary just missed out on promotion from Division Two behind Cork and Galway. Despite earning a draw against Kerry, they did not qualify for the Munster final. For Fitzpatrick, there is more to come from Tipperary, who are in Group One with Galway and Donegal. "I think for us as a group, it has been a mixed year. We finished third in Division Two, which on its own is a great result for us, being in such a tough group with the likes of Cork and Galway. "If you look at it more in depth, we probably wouldn't have been happy with a lot of our performances in the league. Advertisement "When you look at the Munster Championship, we had the same inconsistency with games, probably a little bit unhappy with the performances against Waterford and Cork. "I really do think nobody has seen the best of us yet. We are a very, very strong team, and I think there is a lot more to come from us. We just need to build consistency in our games. "We are a very determined group, and we want to strive for more." In recent seasons, Tipperary have demonstrated their ability to compete with the best at the senior level, but have yet to progress to the knockout stages. The Tipperary goalkeeper says she would not be surprised if there is a shock winner come August, and she has confidence in what Tipperary can achieve this summer. "It is a championship for any team to win. I would not be surprised if we see an underdog come through and cause a surprise in the final. "It is great for the game. It gives that bit more intensity to each round game; there is something there to fight for. "We are going to take it game by game and give it our all. It would be wrong not to reach for the stars and not want all three cups at the start of the year. "You have to be realistic as well in what you are looking for. Personally, if we can improve on last year and hopefully get out of our group and into the All-Ireland quarter-finals, I think that is a huge improvement for Tipp football."
