Google Maps makes starting a collaborative list less confusing

Aamir Siddiqui / Android Authority TL;DR Google Maps is rolling out a tweaked sharing menu for places. When a place is selected, tapping on the Share chip will bring up a new Share sheet with options for: Share this place, Copy link, and Share as a collaborative list. In 2023, Google Maps introduced a feature to allow users to create collaborative lists with friends and family, consisting of places everyone wanted to visit. The process was as simple as selecting a place, tapping share, and finding the 'Add to list' option. Google Maps is now rolling out a change to the share sheet that makes the option to create a collaborative list more prominent. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Currently, if you select a place on Google Maps and tap on the Share chip, you will be greeted by a share sheet. This share sheet allows you to copy the link, choose individuals to share the link with, or choose which app you want to share the link in. Included among the apps is an option to 'Add to list,' which allows you to kick off a collaborative list in Maps with others. Old New An X (formerly Twitter) user who goes by @TechA7mad has tipped us off on a change to the share sheet that appears to be rolling out with version 25.26.01.774458481 of Google Maps. Our own Rita El Khoury has also recently spotted this new share sheet style. This new version of the share sheet now only shows three options: Share this place, Copy link, and Share as a collaborative list. While you'll still be able to share your link with others like before, this update simply makes the option to create a collaborative list clearer and more prominent. You can check out the video below to see it all in action. While it's nice that this change makes it clearer that you can create a collaborative list, the functionality of the share sheet feels less convenient as it now takes multiple steps to share the link with others. It may have been easier to just relabel the 'Add to list' option. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Share Shed - a 'library of things' - given £250k lottery funding

A "mobile library of things" that encourages people to share and repair items has been awarded more than £250,000 in National Lottery funding. The Share Shed, which travels weekly to seven towns in Devon, offers items including tools, gardening equipment and kitchen appliances for people to borrow rather than buy. The charity said £252,316 of lottery funding would be delivered over the next four years and would help it to create a "stronger and more connected, sharing and repairing community".Share Shed manager Mark Jefferys said the concept had received "all sorts of amazing feedback" since launching in 2017. Borrow, not buy He said: "You join like a library and you pay a membership."Thanks to lottery funding, we now can offer free memberships for those that need it and you can borrow things and bring them back a week later, rather than buying them."Mr Jefferys said the money would go towards projects including skill-sharing, share festivals, community lockers and outreach programmes. He said: "We run skills on tool sharpening, bike repairs, mending clothes, and, if people have idea of other skills they'd like, we're open to suggestions. "We're running some one day festivals - Share Fest, a festival of sharing, repairing, swapping and making."We're also going to pilot Share Shed lockers you can access whenever you're able to." 'Learn skills' Mr Jefferys said the majority of items loaned out by Share Shed had been donated. He said: "If it's something you might only need now and again, chances are we've got that on the van."The big things you have to reserve a few days before you need it and then I'll bring it to wherever you'd like to pick it up."Mr Jefferys said Share Shed also wanted to use the funding to support existing repair cafes and set up new ones with a focus on intergenerational skill said: "Most people are desperate to learn or relearn skills. "We've got repairers who are perhaps retired, engineers and tailors, and we want young people to learn those skills. "Share Shed travels weekly to Totnes, Buckfastleigh, Ashburton, Dartington, South Brent, Kingsbridge and Ivybridge.

Netflix's ‘Moments' Feature Lets You Easily Share Your Favorite Clips

An official sharing feature built into the mobile app lets you send a specific scene to your friends. Here's how to use it. What's the best way to share it with someone else? Or save it for posterity? Previously, this has been quite a technical challenge—you'll notice even screenshots get blocked by Netflix's anti-piracy technology. But there's now an official feature built right into the Netflix app for saving and sharing as many clips as you like. It's called Moments, and you can find it in the Netflix app for Android and iOS, though not on the web or any other devices. Moments was added at the end of 2024, six months before Netflix announced that it will soon begin rolling out a major overhaul of its user interface. So while you may have to wait a few weeks to see the new Netflix features—like 'responsive' recommendations and TikTok-style vertical videos—you can start sharing with Moments now. Moments can be shared with others or kept to yourself. Courtesy of David Nield Saving Moments in Netflix Start watching something in the Netflix app, whether streamed from the web or saved to your phone. When you get to the part of the show or movie you want to save, tap anywhere on the screen to bring up the playback controls. You'll see a Moments button in the lower-left corner. Tap the button and you get taken to the Moments screen that shows thumbnails of previous clips you've saved for this particular film or show. (If you haven't saved anything yet, you'll just see a row of black squares.) On the save screen you can see Moments from the film or episode. Courtesy of David Nield To save your current position as a clip, tap Save, and it's added to the grid on the right. The clip will actually start a few seconds back from where you currently are, so a little bit of trial and error might be required to get it spot on. Tap on any previously saved clip to view it, or tap the relevant trash can icon to delete a clip. It's important to note that these aren't self-contained video shorts—they're basically just playback points within movies and shows. When you view one, the film or episode continues from that point. Viewing and Sharing Moments When you tap the Moments button during playback, you get all of the clips for that film or episode. Scroll to the right if you can't see them all right away. You can also tap the share button just below the thumbnail to send the Moment to someone else, which brings up a new screen showing all the apps installed on your phone. You can share the clip link via any of these apps, or use the Copy link button to paste the link to the clipboard and share it that way. Whenever someone else clicks or taps on your shared link, they get taken to that part of the movie or show—so they need to have Netflix installed on their device to see it. All of your saved Moments are only a few taps away. Courtesy of David Nield All your clips are synced between your mobile devices, so you can revisit them or share them from multiple phones and tablets. You can't view your Moments on the web, but you can view them if you follow a shared link (if someone has sent one to you via email, for example). From inside the Android or iOS app, you're also able to open the My Netflix tab to access your saved Moments across every film and show. Tap See All for a full list. The subsequent screen lets you view, share, and delete Moments, though there's no easy way to search through the list.
