Origin Contour mattress topper review: a sofa bed saviour
ORIGIN was established in Germany in 2018, but it's only found success in the UK in the last couple of years.
The award-winning brand collaborates with sleep doctors, chiropractors and physiotherapists to develop its innovative sleep products.
I've put the Origin Contour mattress topper to the test to see if it lives up to the brand's growing reputation — and my high expectations.

How I tested the Origin Mattress Topper
I recently bought a sofa bed for one of my guest rooms, and learned from some of my (unlucky) guests that it was very uncomfortable.
Therefore, the first port of call was to test the topper out on the sofa bed to see if it made a difference.
I slept on the sofa bed overnight without the topper, and again with the topper in situ. I also invited my guests back to sleep on the sofa bed with the topper in place and asked for their feedback.
Additionally, I tested the mattress topper out on top of the other guest room's mattress. I had feedback from guests that they didn't like the sinking sensation of the mattress (I promise they're not as fussy as I'm making them sound).

The mattress topper arrived swiftly in a compact, branded box with minimal packaging.
Inside, the topper was vacuum-packed, making it very easy to carry to its new bedroom.
I noticed there were no instructions included, which I found interesting since other "bed-in-a-box" mattress brands I've tested typically provide simple setup guides.
The main thing I would have liked clarity on was how long to leave it to inflate before use.
When I first unboxed it, the topper was deflated with deep folds, so I left it for a couple of hours to straighten out and fully inflate before beginning my testing.
Does it deliver?
As I mentioned, my primary goal for the Origin mattress topper was to alleviate the discomfort of my sofa bed.
To properly assess its impact, I slept on the sofa bed before adding the topper. The foam was incredibly firm, and there was a dreaded metal bar that you could feel running through the middle of the bed.
Once I added the mattress topper, the difference in comfort was instant; it was a lot softer to sleep on, and I could barely feel the metal bar. My sleep quality was much improved, too.
I even invited previous victims of my uncomfortable sofa bed to re-test it with the topper in place, and their feedback was far more positive, saying they "slept much better".
Next, I tested the topper on top of the mattress in our guest room. While it's a relatively expensive mattress, some guests have voiced that they don't enjoy the sinking sensation of the memory foam.
I repeated my testing method, sleeping on the mattress both before and after adding the topper. Although I slept well both nights, the topper successfully mitigated that sinking feeling that some of my guests disliked.
Some notable features of Origin's Contour topper include an easy-to-remove cover that can be machine-washed and tumble-dried.
It also has loops to keep it in place on the mattress. I found that they stayed in place nicely on the bed, but the sofa bed was too thin and they pinged off in the night.
