I've tried every big-brand smart ring on the market — Oura's Gen3 is a steal at 34% off in flash sale
AS The Sun's reviews manager, I've tried fistfuls of smart rings. I've got my hands on (or, more specifically, in) big names like Samsung and Ultrahuman, as well as lesser-known brands like RingConn and Amazfit. However, there's no getting around it: Oura makes the best smart ring out there. And that's reflected in the price: the new Oura Gen4 will cost you a minimum of about £300, even on sale — if you want a posh Gold or Rose Gold finish, be prepared to spend up to £500. Thankfully, Amazon's mega Prime Day sale means you can get the slightly older Gen3 Ring for just £165. Amazon's decision to make its 2025 Prime Day four days long means that the I've tried both the Gen 3 and Gen 4, and I can testify that the difference between the two does not justify hundreds of pounds of extra cash. Let me set out the differences: Oura Ring Gen3 Oura Ring Gen4 Best price at time of writing £165 in the Amazon Prime Day Sale £283 in the Amazon Prime Day sale Battery Life Up to 7 days Up to 8 days Thickness 2.7mm (Heritage) or 2.9mm (Horizon) 2.88mm Weight 4-6g depending on size 3.3-5.2g depending on size Design Fully titanium interior and exterior, 0.3mm sensors Titanium exterior, epoxy interior, 1.3mm sensors Sensing 8 sensing paths Up to 18 sensing paths with "Smart Sensing" Sizes 6-13 4-15 Waterproofing 100m/328ft 100m/328ft Charging time 20-80 mins 20-80 mins Oura Gen3 Horizon Smart Ring, £249 £165 from Amazon BUY HERE The point I'm trying to illustrate here is not that the Gen3 is as good as the Gen4, because it isn't. The point I'm trying to make is that the Gen4 represents a series of marginal improvements on the Gen3, most of which are unnoticeable. For example, are you going to notice carrying an extra 0.7g or 0.8g on your finger? That's about the weight of a single paperclip. What I care more about is the thickness, and if you get the Gen3 Horizon, it's actually slimmer than the Gen4. Some people have said that the Gen4 is more comfortable, thanks to the fact it has less protruding sensors, but likewise, I haven't noticed it. And while, on paper, the accuracy of the Gen4 is better, the Gen3 is already so accurate that I haven't noticed much of a difference in my metrics. It's the same story with the battery life; charging your ring every seven days or every eight days essentially comes to the same thing. What would have been really useful is if the Gen4 came with a charging case, like the RingConn Gen2. Oura notoriously doesn't run many sales — we've been following the brand for years and this is the first sizeable discount we've seen on any of its products. Amazon data backs that up; according to price tracker CamelCamelCamel, the Gen3 Ring has never been so cheap on the platform. In summary, if you're on the fence between dropping £165 on the Gen3 or £283 on the Gen 4, I'd recommend you save your money and opt for the Gen3. It has all of the tech that makes the Oura Ring the best smart ring on the market, with none of the off-putting pricing. I'm a fitness writer, and this Oura ring 4 Amazon Prime Day deal looks good – but there's one better
A decade ago, smart rings transformed the wellness world. They offer all the insights of a wrist-worn fitness tracker while sitting unobtrusively around your finger. Oura was the first brand to nail the smart ring formula, and though the brand now has many rivals, it continues to be the best option on the market. That's why a decent Amazon Prime Day discount – down from £349 to £295, – on the latest Oura ring 4 should turn a few heads. However, that's not the only discount. If, like me, you're after something more affordable, the still impressive previous generation is now available for almost half this price (£199 to £165, Both options offer very similar features, including detailed data on your sleep, activity levels and health factors such as stress. But with the Oura ring 4, you get a more premium package, with an entirely titanium build, an expanded range of sizes on offer, increased comfort and extra sensors for increased accuracy. The Oura ring 4 tops our roundup of the best smart rings, with senior tech critic Alex Lee finding it to be the most stylish, comfortable and feature-packed option money can buy. 'It has the best sleep tracking of any wearable, with a lot of science to back it up. There are new features rolling out all the time, and it's the best activity tracker I've found in a smart ring so far,' he writes. It is more comfortable and durable than previous iterations of the Oura ring, and most importantly, it's the most accurate, with more sensors than any previous generation. This diminutive wearable is now at its lowest-ever price on Amazon, with a 15 per cent discount taking the silver and black colourways from £349 to £295. However, if you want to save even more money, the significantly cheaper Oura ring 3 offers almost the rich suite of features for less. It's isn't as comfortable as the Oura ring 4, but our tester Kat Barber found that 'if you're keen to enter the world of biohacking and take steps to optimise your sleep and energy', then the Oura ring 3 'presents one of the easiest ways to do all this.'
