RIYADH: For many pilgrims, the spiritual journey of Hajj does not end when they leave the holy sites. It continues — quietly, intentionally — in the days and weeks that follow. Across Saudi Arabia, young pilgrims are using social media to process the weight of Hajj and share the experience with loved ones. Noor Ahmad, 21, did not plan to post during her pilgrimage. But after she returned, the urge to share came naturally. After returning from Hajj, I decided to share a few captured moments. But how can a photo truly capture the depth and majesty of the experience? Noor Ahmad 'After returning from Hajj, I decided to share a few captured moments,' she said. 'But how can a photo truly capture the depth and majesty of the experience?' She described how people responded in varied ways. 'Those who had gone before felt nostalgic and started sharing their own stories. Others — those who hadn't been yet — expressed their longing. It became this moment of connection.' For Noor, the decision to post was not about aesthetics. 'It's a monumental event. Maybe I could inspire someone who's hesitant to go. Maybe they'll see what I saw — and want to experience it for themselves. 'It was my way of saying thank you' Shatha Al-Jadaan, 25, took a different approach to sharing, after taking a digital detox. I enjoy sharing meaningful moments, and after seeing the tremendous effort put into Hajj on every level, I felt my post was a small, sincere gesture of appreciation. Shatha Al-Jadaan 'During Hajj, I decided to partially fast from social media. I used only the essentials,' she said. 'After I returned, I posted a thread to my close friends explaining where I'd been and shared some of the most meaningful moments.' The response was full of prayers and warmth. 'People were kind, supportive, and curious. But what mattered most to me was that I used the thread to say thank you — to the organizers, to the volunteers, and to Allah.' She spoke about how she found value in using digital platforms to document something greater than herself. 'I enjoy sharing meaningful moments, and after seeing the tremendous effort put into Hajj on every level, I felt my post was a small, sincere gesture of appreciation.' Salem Al-Khudair, 28, recorded a voice note to his family group chat while performing the rites. 'I just couldn't find the words to write. So I recorded myself speaking right after standing in Arafat. I sent it to my family WhatsApp group. My mom was emotional. My dad said, 'May God accept from you.' That was enough.' In an age of curated content, Hajj posts tend to stand out for their sincerity. Pilgrims often strip away the filters, metaphors and trend-driven formats, and just speak from the heart. Noura Al-Dosari, 23, uploaded a private Instagram story highlight with no captions. 'Just visuals. No filters. No hashtags,' she said. 'It wasn't for followers. It was for me. For reflection. A digital bookmark of who I became.' Some write long captions, others simply post a photo of their ihram folded neatly back into a drawer. But all of them carry a silent message: I went. JEDDAH: As pilgrims complete the sacred rites of Hajj, many embark on a deeper spiritual journey by exploring historic Islamic sites across Saudi Arabia to connect with the roots of their faith. In the holy city of Makkah, pilgrims visit Jabal Al-Nour, whose name means 'Mountain of Light.' At its peak lies the Cave of Hira, where the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed through the Angel Jibreel. The mountain's distinctive camel-hump shape makes it a striking landmark, especially with the nearby Hira Cultural District, where the Revelation Gallery offers pilgrims to learn the story of divine revelation and history. Ahmed Khan, a private tour guide said: 'There's something unexplainable about standing where it all began. When I take pilgrims to Jabal al-Nour, many of them are moved to tears it's not just a climb, but it's a spiritual awakening.' To the south lies Jabal Thawr, the mountain that cradled the Prophet and his companion Abu Bakr as-Siddiq in its cave during their migration to Madinah. The story of divine protection, where a spider's web and a dove's nest concealed their presence from their pursuers, resonates deeply with pilgrims. Another frequently visited site is Jabal Abu Qubays, believed in some traditions to be the first mountain placed on Earth. As the closest peak to the Grand Mosque, it resonates with the early public da'wah and the great spiritual responsibility. • Al-Qiblatain Mosque, where revelation changed the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Makkah, remains a must-visit site for pilgrims. • Programs like 'Hala,' launched by Al-Bait Guests Co., are curating journeys for pilgrims to explore with knowledgeable guides. Madinah has its own timeless legacy. Al-Qiblatain Mosque, where revelation changed the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Makkah and marked a defining shift in Muslim identity and remains a must-visit site for pilgrims. Hussain Rauff, regional director of Madinah Hotels at Elaf Al-Taqwa, said: 'We're planning to organize guided tours across Madinah to help pilgrims explore the city's rich Islamic heritage. It's a meaningful way to extend their spiritual journey beyond the rituals of Hajj.' Further west of the Prophet's Mosque lies the cluster known as the Seven Mosques, each linked to events from the Battle of the Trench. Among them are Al-Fath Mosque and those named after figures such as Fatimah, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Salman Al-Farsi. These mosques are rich in historical memory and serve as reminders of hardship during one of Islam's critical battles. Mount Uhud rises just north of Madinah city, its slopes reminds of the Battle of Uhud and the place where the Prophet's uncle, Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib, and 70 companions were martyred. Today, pilgrims pause at the Uhud Martyrs Cemetery indicating the modesty found in victory and the strength drawn from loss. Equally powerful is a visit to Baqi' Al-Gharqad Cemetery, the resting place of many of the Prophet's family members and companions. Located near the Prophet's Mosque, the cemetery has long served as a site for prayer and remembrance, offering pilgrims a moment of intimate connection with those who stood beside the Prophet during Islam's formative years. Beyond the holy cities, other destinations continue to attract pilgrims in search of spiritual enrichment. Northwest of Madinah lies Khaybar, the site of a pivotal military campaign that showcases both the strategic and ethical dimensions of the Prophet's leadership. Its volcanic terrain and ancient fortifications tell stories etched in stone. Fatima Al-Mutairi, a pilgrim from Kuwait: 'I am planning to visit these places in Jeddah and Taif after my Hajj. I am planning to visit the Tomb of Hawa in Jeddah and in Taif, I look forward to visiting Masjid Abdullah ibn Abbas, to pay tribute to one of the great scholars whose work in Qur'anic interpretation and Hadith continues to inspire many seekers of knowledge.' Recognizing the growing desire for such experiences, programs like 'Hala,' launched by Al-Bait Guests Co., are curating immersive journeys for pilgrims to explore these sacred sites with knowledgeable guides and spiritual context. Mohammed Al-Shahrani, experience officer in Hajj and Umrah sector said: 'Our aim is to enrich the post-Hajj experience. Haj comes to a close officially as remaining pilgrims bid farewell to Mina
MAKKAH — On the third day of Tashreeq, pilgrims completed the ritual of stoning at three Jamarat in Mina on Monday afternoon and left the Tent City for Makkah to perform Tawaf Al-Wida (Farewell Tawaf), the last obligatory ritual of Hajj. Pilgrims, who stayed back in Mina on Sunday night to perform the stoning ritual for the fourth consecutive day, threw pebbles at three Jamarat on Monday afternoon. They hurled seven pebbles each, first at Jamarat Al-Sugra, then at Jamarat Al-Wusta, and finally at Jamarat Al-Aqaba in a calm and peaceful atmosphere inside the sprawling Jamarat Complex manned by a contingent of security forces, health workers and volunteers. They then left Mina for Makkah to perform Tawaf Al-Wida, marking the end of the hassle-free annual pilgrimage on a joyous and spiritual note. Their movements to and from the Jamarat and Makkah were remarkably smooth. As they bid farewell to Mina, having completed Hajj and fulfilled the fifth pillar of Islam, pilgrims depart with sweet memories and self-realization of fulfilling the once-in-lifetime spiritual journey. Each moment and location within the holy sites is filled with memories and stories of love and gratification, enriched by acts of obedience, submission and worship of God. Although Hajj concludes officially on Monday, the third day of Tashreeq, pilgrims were allowed to hasten to complete it the previous day. By taking advantage of this concession, most pilgrims left Mina before sunset of Sunday. RIYADH: Every year, many celebrities join millions of Muslims worldwide traveling to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah to perform Hajj — a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey for affluent Muslims. This year is no different. Among those performing Hajj this year are Zimbabwean motivational speaker and Islamic scholar Ismail ibn Musa Menk, known as Mufti Menk; internationally famed South African chef Hamzah Saeed; Egyptian singer and composer Ahmed Saad; and Pakistani actor Malik Aqeel. Menk posted on X: 'As I embark on my journey for the Hajj after 24 years, I seek the forgiveness of Allah for my shortcomings and ask you to forgive me too. Hajj is meant to purify us and wipe away our sins. May Allah make me a better person, closer to Him and worthy of His Mercy! Aameen.' In another post, he said: 'Almighty. Grant us the strength to give up something for Your sake. Help us understand the true meaning of sacrifice. May we achieve the benefits of these ten days & may You accept the sincere efforts of those making Hajj.' Saeed also expressed his anticipation on Instagram, seeking forgiveness and hoping Allah accepts his prayers and guides him on this blessed journey, one of Islam's five pillars. Quoting Qur'an 2:158, he wrote: 'Surely, Al-Safa and Al-Marwah are symbols of Allah. Whoever performs Hajj or Umrah will find no sin in walking between the two. Ravat, a distinguished South African scholar, shared Hajj snapshots on X, including an emotional conversation with Saeed during his first visit to the holy cities. 'I am the first person from my family to visit Haramain,' Saeed said. On Instagram, he celebrity chef posted a video from Madinah: 'Words can't describe having experienced and seeing all historical places and to learn stories about them with learned scholars one on one, stay tuned as will be taking you on Mount Uhud journey.'
