TOM PARKER BOWLES reviews Pasture: ‘The steak is properly seasoned and gloriously charred'
Pasture is a steakhouse in Birmingham 's city centre, airy, cavernous and flooded with light. There's a glass-fronted ageing room, in which sit various hunks of cow, the dark crimson flesh swirled with alabaster fat. And despite it being a Monday lunch time, the place is encouragingly busy, with tables downing wine and beer with the sort of thirsty gusto usually associated with a Friday afternoon. Part of a small group of restaurants (there are two others, in Bristol and Cardiff), Pasture takes its provenance seriously. Its steaks are hewn from British grass-fed beef and dry aged in the aforementioned chamber, while much of the produce is grown at the restaurants' Somerset farm. The birch charcoal used in the vast grills is a by-product of the furniture industry (who knew?), while most of the bread, beer and ice cream is reassuringly local. So far, so sustainable. But while this is all highly commendable, it counts for the square root of bugger all if the food is second rate. Which it's not. There's a plump lozenge of char siu pork belly, soft as a sybarite's resolve, with a crisp curl of crackling, and a blob of wonderful barbecue sauce. Short-rib croquettes, expertly fried, have a low, sonorous moo. Then steak, half a kilo of Chateaubriand, cooked rare, properly seasoned and gloriously charred. I usually prefer the lustier chew of a sirloin or rump, but this is a magnificent piece of meat, with the deep savour of a life well lived. There's even a whisper of funk. Fat chips are fried in beef dripping, and are very fine indeed, especially when dipped in a pot of brown butter béarnaise. Chimichurri, verdantly perky, stops things getting too overwhelmingly rich. Even the tomato salad, so often a sullen, fridge-cold afterthought, is filled with intensely sweet, room-temperature fruit. Service is as good as you'll find anywhere, warm but well-drilled. And this is a place where lingering is positively encouraged, and an espresso martini (or two) makes the perfect pudding. Creating a successful restaurant is about so much more than just food – it's an eternally whirring machine, made up of a hundred different parts, greased by pure hard graft. Pasture does what it does very well indeed and is proof, if proof be needed, that there are shards of the joyous in the general doom and gloom.

Lucky's Steakhouse Replaces Beloved East Hampton Restaurant
A steak dinner at Lucky's Steakhouse in East Hampton A 25-year-old California institution is expanding to the East End. Lucky's Steakhouse will open its fourth location at the end of June, expanding its presence beyond Montecito, Malibu, and Soho to yet another ritzy locale: East Hampton. The California-based restaurant is replacing the recently shuttered Cove Hollow Tavern at 85 Montauk Highway. Following the Ina Garten-lauded restaurant's final service on May 31, 2025, Lucky's retained the staff of the former institution, honoring local ties and ensuring familiar faces at the front of house (hiring peak season in the Hamptons is also a notable challenge). Fans of Cove Hollow Tavern can find some of the restaurant's beloved dishes at their sister restaurant, Vine Street Cafe, on Shelter Island. Lucky's Steakhouse was founded by Gene Montesano of Lucky Brand Jeans, along with his friends Herb Simon and Jimmy Argyropoulos, Herb's daughter Sarah Meyer Simon is leading the brand's East Coast expansion. A seafood tower at Lucky's Steakhouse in East Hampton 'We opened Lucky's in Montecito in 2000, creating a place where friends could enjoy a great meal in a comfortable atmosphere and be treated like family," shared Herb Simon. "Two decades later, we brought that same spirit to Malibu. In July 2024, SoHo followed—a small neighborhood restaurant with great food and atmosphere. Next up is East Hampton, where I have a home and spend my summers, and needless to say I'm excited to bring the Lucky's experience to the Hamptons.' Dining at Lucky's Steakhouse East Hampton East Hampton has no shortage of great spots for steak (East Hampton Grill, The Palm) and Lucky's will join the steakhouse selection with dry-aged USDA Prime steaks and more menu items familiar to their guests in California and SoHo. Highlights include Gene's Filet (filet mignon, fresh horseradish, red-wine sauce), the Lucky's Salad (romaine, shrimp, bacon, avocado & Roquefort), and Skinny Onion Rings (thin frizzled onions). Hamptons-exclusive plats du jour, inspired by the local fare, plus a raw bar, will also be served. A white tablecloth dinner service at Lucky's Steakhouse To drink, tableside martini service, an extensive wine list, and full bar, of course. The East Hampton Lucky's is very much inspired by the original Montecito location. Longtime artistic collaborator Peter Horjus painted Jazz Age-inspired murals of East End scenes to adorn the space along with new furnishings crafted by French atelier Maison Gatti. Lucky's East Hampton will be open on weekdays from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. and 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. on weekends. Reservations available via OpenTable, and walk-ins are welcome.

Footage of Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes' new Kansas City restaurant shows they may have huge problem
As the first look into Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes ' new downtown Kansas City restaurant was held, signs of a possible huge problem also emerged. With a slated opening of later this summer, plenty of work still needs to be done to hit that opening deadline, with exposed wood paneling and two unfinished kitchens inside the space. The slated late-summer opening date for the steakhouse would be just in time for the beginning of the NFL season, with the restaurant deemed a respite for those coming into town to see the Chiefs play. Kelce and Mahomes are busy with off-the-field ventures and will soon dive head first into training camp next month, leaving construction to their partners in the hospitality business. has reached out to Noble 33, the restaurant group partnering with Kelce and Mahomes to open the steakhouse, for comment. Noble 33 also owns several other restaurants around the world, including Meduza Mediterrania in New York City's Meatpacking District, where Kelce and Mahomes had a fancy dinner alongside their partners, Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes, after the men's US Open Final last September. The steakhouse's personnel have yet to be publicly revealed and there is no menu on the website. Familiar American steakhouse fare such as a Porterhouse, strip, and filet mignon cuts are expected, among other dishes. The restaurant is being constructed inside the 4-star Loews Hotel in the famed Power & Light district, walking distance from T-Mobile Center and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. The hotel will have a designated entrance for the steakhouse with valet parking available. Once inside the restaurant's doors a 'stadium experience' tunnel, similar to what Kelce and Mahomes walk through at nearby Arrowhead Stadium, will lead guests to the host stand and a meat display. The bar area does have televisions, with only plans to show Chiefs games to honor Kelce and Mahomes. 1587 Prime will have a massive wine fridge, a first-floor kitchen, and a second-floor dining area with an open air kitchen. The steakhouse will also have a private entrance and a VIP room for those extra-special guests, like Swift, to enjoy the restaurant without being seen by other patrons. The VIP room will contain a two-way mirror, where those VIPs can see into the dining room, but others cannot watch them devour steak. One of those dining areas is a private VIP room, perfect for entertaining Swift when in town Kelce and Swift have been in the public eye for plenty of time already this week, attending the Tight End University extravaganza in Nashville, their first joint appearance as a couple. While Kelce was technically working at the three-day NFL event, which he has co-hosted alongside fellow tight ends George Kittle and Greg Olsen since 2021, he couldn't keep his eyes - or his hands - off his pop sensation girlfriend. Photos have begun to trickle out from the 'Fortnight' hitmaker's shock appearance at the event in Music City with one particularly steamy moment between an unsuspecting Kelce and Swift being caught on camera. In a snap that has emerged from Monday night's launch party at cocktail bar LA Jackson, the loved-up couple could be seen sharing an intimate moment in the background. The 14-time Grammy Award winner had her arms wrapped around the NFL star's neck as she leaned in to the beaming Kelce. One night on from the racy moment, the songstress proved she can still keep her NFL beau on his toes when she shocked him with a surprise performance. Kelce and Swift had earlier been pictured arriving at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, where it seemed like Swift was purely just supporting Kelce for a cause close to his heart. Singers such as Sophia Scott, Graham Barham and Chase Rice were all listed to perform at the venue, where Swift was first spotted enjoying the night in the VIP section. Jordan Davis also played and welcomed country star Luke Combs onto the stage but Swift's involvement had been kept a secret - if it was even scheduled at all.

America crowns new favorite restaurant chain as LongHorn Steakhouse dethroned by bitter rival
Texas Roadhouse has been named America's favorite restaurant — beating the likes of Chili's, Olive Garden and its big steakhouse rival. It has beaten longtime rival LongHorn Steakhouse to claim the top spot on the closely watched American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) for sit-down restaurants. The two steakhouses, which both scored 84 on the 2024 list, are now separated by a single point — with Texas Roadhouse notching 84 and LongHorn falling just behind at 83. Olive Garden was third with 81, and Applebee's and Cracker were fourth with 80. Outback Steakhouse, the third major US steakhouse chain, also cracked the top 10 despite a lower satisfaction score of 79, tied with Red Lobster. Chili's was eighth, along with IHOP and Red Robin, with 78. Both Texas and LongHorn had a bumper 2024 as they benefited from inflation-weary Americans seeking out good value meals. They both offer a steak, potatoes and vegetables for $20 to $25. Despite a rocky start to 2025 — including a sluggish 2.9 percent sales gain and weather-related closures — Texas Roadhouse, actually founded in Indiana, has maintained its value positioning in the face of inflation and tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. LongHorn experienced a 4.3% increase in customer traffic and operates over 500 restaurants worldwide Texas Roadhouse, which was founded nearly 30 years ago, now operates 655 restaurants across the United States. LongHorn, owned by Darden Restaurants, has grown into a global steakhouse empire with more than 500 locations worldwide since opening its first restaurant 44 years ago. Their success comes as many competitors falter. Both chains have overtaken Outback Steakhouse in sales In terms of sales, both have overtaken Outback Steakhouse — a dramatic shift for a brand that once dominated the casual steakhouse scene, fueled by the late-1980s Australian craze sparked by Crocodile Dundee. Sales have also fallen at Olive Garden, Starbucks, and TGI Friday's. Last year, Olive Garden also lost its position as the top-grossing US restaurant brand — a spot it had held for seven consecutive years — to Texas Roadhouse. The Italian-inspired chain — famous for its bottomless breadsticks and carb-heavy comfort food, also faced internal turmoil, including employee walkouts over new uniform policies. Meanwhile, Applebee's has been in a prolonged period of contraction, shuttering roughly 300 restaurants between 2016 and 2023 amid rebranding efforts and broader financial challenges. Texas Roadhouse is focusing on offering various low-priced entrees Red Lobster, ranking number eight on the list, closed hundreds of restaurants last year after filing for bankruptcy and exited last September after being purchased by asset manager Fortress. Chili's pulled off ' the best comeback of all time,' and landed in a three-way tie with IHOP and the struggling Red Robin chain. Its next entries, The Cheesecake Factory and Buffalo Wild Wings have had slight dips in sales this year, but not big enough to put them at risk of bankruptcy. Denny's concludes the list with a score of 75, which came after shuttering dozens of restaurants and implementing an egg surcharge. The ACSI rankings, considered a key benchmark of consumer sentiment across major industries, are closely monitored by investors and analysts for signs of shifting brand loyalty and operational performance.
