New Bolton town centre store aiming to breathe new life into high street opens
A new store opened this morning, Friday, in Bolton town centre with special guests invited to welcome the first customers. Ideal Home and Food Hall opened at 8.30am in the space once occupied by Wilko and then Poundland in Deansgate, with a special five per cent discount for the first 1,000 customers. Mayor of Bolton, Cllr David Chadwick, and former Bolton Wanderers winger David Lee were in attendance at the store. Operations manager Thomas Berry said: "We're hoping to get a lot of customers in, we've had a lot of interest, so it's nice to see people coming in for the first time. (Image: NQ) The store will eventually be across two floors, but due to a "hiccup", as Thomas described it, the bottom floor will be opening a few days later than the rest of the store. "We apologise severely for that and we've brought in a five per cent discount as a result," Thomas added. Former Wanderers winger David Lee met staff and customers (Image: NQ) As for prices, a six-pack of Walkers cheese and onion crisps is listed for £2.20, a box of 80 PG Tips teabags is £3.29, two brioche burger buns are 67p, and an extra-thick white bloomer loaf is £1.80. The business will aim to breathe new life into the town's high street, which has been hit hard in recent years by the loss of high profile names like Marks & Spencer. The store will be offering five per cent off food shopping for university students, old-age pensioners and disabled people, NHS staff, police officers and firefighters. The company also has plans to set up other stores in Edinburgh and Darlington.

Trader Joe's Newest Location Leaves Shoppers in Disbelief
As of April 2025, Trader Joe's had 581 store locations in 42 different states and a plan to open two dozen more stores. The only states that Trader Joe's isn't in as of 2025 are Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming. California is ripe with Trader Joe's locations all throughout the state, and the April release showed that five locations opened in California alone. One of them was at 14140 Riverside Dr. in Sherman Oaks, in Southern California. But, oddly enough, there is another Trader Joe's across the street from this new location with a store at 14119 Riverside Drive. Yes, Trader Joe's opened a brand-new location despite having one right across the street. One TikTok user, ShavsPaper, posted a video discussing the new location in a clip that has circulated quite a bit. In turn, some were puzzled at the decision to build a new location so close to another store. "I would be eye-balling each parking lot trying to decide which is the least busiest in the moment every single time. People don't need even one more decision in their day. Why TJs, why?" one user replied. "Omg I saw this was happening recently and was like …. Wait what LOL" another wrote. "i feel like it's illegal to have the same store within a certain range of each other. But lowkey trader joe's might've found a land loophole from the looks of it," another stated. "Wait lol. They're both open at the same time," another stated. Others were also upset that Sherman Oaks has two while other cities don't have even one location. "While other cities are literally begging for one," one user wrote. "I can't even get one in my area," wrote another. The city of Sherman Oaks has a population of just over 68,000 and is right in the San Fernando Valley, so it's quite the move to open one right across the Joe's Newest Location Leaves Shoppers in Disbelief first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 16, 2025

Pepkor Holdings Ltd., Africa's largest clothing retailer, The Foschini Group Ltd. and Mr Price Group Ltd. together plan to open as many as 600 outlets, with a focus largely on their discount brands.
