5 Essentials For A Perfect Summer Adventure

NRS Eddyline Shorts NRS What do you need for a perfect summer adventure? Here are five easy pieces that can help elevate your game before you head to the airport for parts unknown or embark on a long road trip. It's summertime, the living is easy, and shorts rule. NRS may not be a familiar brand name to you, but the company has been manufacturing whitewater rafting gear for over 50 years. Who better to turn to for a pair of lightweight, rugged shorts that can handle a Western River or a Central Park outing during the recent heatwave in Manhattan? The NRS Eddyline Short is made from ultra-light fabric, offers a well-cut yet loose fit, and cool colors. Made from a polyester/elastane fabric, the shorts provide a comfortable, airy fit with ample freedom of movement. A stretch waistband, three mesh-lined pockets, two standard front pockets, and a single zippered rear pocket are all you need in this garment, which retails for $59.95. Nocs Provisions x Bird Collective Binoculars Nocs Provisions I have long been a fan of Nocs Binoculars, which are lightweight yet rugged, made with high-quality optics, and offered at a reasonable price point. They're essential if you're an avid hiker or boater, let alone a birder. The latter category comprises an astonishing one in three Americans, according to a 2024 report by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Nocs has just issued the Nocs Provisions x Bird Collective collaboration, a collection that honors the pastime of birding with a design that celebrates birds. The Nocs Provisions x Bird Collective range features two of Nocs Provisions most popular waterproof binoculars: the Pro Issue, Nocs' top-of-the-line 10x42 with phase-coated BaK4 prisms and IPX7 waterproof-rated, for $329.95 The Field Issue is a lightweight, durable, and waterproof 8x32 bino with a compact form factor and premium optics, at $195. The patterns celebrate the egg colors of the Blue Jay and Northern Cardinal. Both come with a woven tapestry strap with geometric patterns that reflect the birds' native landscapes. These new binos are available exclusively at REI stores and OR Stratoburst Stretch Rain Jacket OR OR makes some of the best outdoor wear that I've ever used, pieces that are great for hiking, skiing, and seemingly everything in between. They're well-made, well-tested, and seem to last forever. Their new Stratoburst Stretch Rain Jacket is a case in point. This ultra-lightweight jacket is designed for the trails – think hiking and mountain biking - but I love it for travel. It's barely noticeable in a backpack, but it's there when you need it in a downpour in Paris, Oslo, or Galway. It features essential elements like pit zips for ventilation and adjustable cuffs, making it ideal when a downpour darkens your day. It features a hood lock, allowing for a customizable fit. Speaking of fit, it utilizes stretch panels in its design, which are flexible and meant to mimic your body's natural movements. To get technical for a second, it utilizes breathable bluesign-approved 2.5-layer Ventia™ fabric. There are fully taped seams that seal out wind and moisture, and stretch to move with the body, making them ideal for cool-weather climbing or hiking. The newly updated DWR treatment provides wet-weather protection while not releasing harmful toxins into the environment during production. The jacket features a YKK zipper for a tight seal. Additionally, you can pack the entire jacket into its own chest pocket, which doubles as a stuff sack. At $165, it may be the ultimate travel shell. Marsh Wear Buxton Tech Hood Marsh Wear Marsh Wear Buxton Tech Hood It's hot out there, and that's why Marsh Wear, a Charleston, South Carolina company, caught my attention. They make a range of outdoor wear with sunny, Southern coastal living and adventures in mind. I've test-driven their Buxton Tech Hoodie, which retails for $59, and the results are in. It's lightweight, has a roomy, loose fit, and it's ideal for fly fishing when the temps start to rise. It's no surprise that it's the company's best-selling sun shirt, because it feels like your favorite well-worn t-shirt, made from a polyester and rayon combination that offers UPF 40 protection, and comes with thumb loops for maximum coverage. Ibex GOAT Short Sleeve Crew Ibex Ibex GOAT Short Sleeve Crew Summer is the season for T-shirts, but nothing says adventure quite like a merino tee. Ibex, a long-time leader in the merino wool tech space, has just released their GOAT collection, which they claim includes their most technically advanced tees. Made of 89% merino wool and 11% nylon for durability, it's a near-weightless wool fabric designed for all-season wear. Very soft, breathable, and thermoregulating, it possesses the two essential traits that merino devotees expect: it's antimicrobial and odor-resistant, which is the entire point of the garment. That three-week trip to Morocco? Doing the Mont Blanc circuit? Exploring the canyons of Utah? You can pack light, because these shirts don't need to be washed very often. I prefer the short-sleeve option, which retails for $85, but it is also available in tank, polo, and long-sleeve styles.

New money-saving pass gives unlimited visits to your favourite UK theme park this summer – for less than £1 a day

A NEW theme park pass will let you visit one of four of the UK's top attractions as much as you want this summer. For £59, Merlin Entertainments has launched a new limited time only, three-month pass that allows visitors to visit one of four theme park s as much as they want in that time period. 5 5 Visitors will be able to choose from Chessington World of Adventures, Legoland Windsor Resort, Alton Towers Resort or Thorpe Park. So if you were to go every day for the three-month period, it means you would be paying less than £1 a day. There are some exclusion dates which apply to all of the theme parks in the offer. They include August 24 and 25 and October 18, 25, 26 and 31. Jordan Middleton, head of Merlin Annual Pass, commented: "A Merlin Annual Pass is the perfect way to access a summer of adventure for families and thrill-seekers alike for a great price. "With unlimited access to a whole host of exhilarating attractions, a Merlin Annual Pass offers unforgettable memories right on your doorstep. With the Thorpe Park Thrill Pass, for example, visitors can enjoy three months of access to the attraction - which is home to over 25 rides, including its 'Big 6' coasters. One of these rollercoasters boasts the title of the UK's tallest, fastest and most weightless rollercoaster - Hyperia. There are also water rides to enjoy on the hotter days. At Alton Towers Resort - the UK's largest theme park - there are over 40 rides and attractions for all ages. Kids can enter Diggerland for free with this trick There are 10 main rollercoasters, each of which have record-breaking elements too. For younger children, there are 20 attractions including the only place in the UK where visitors can meet some of CBeebies best-loved characters. Meanwhile, at Chessington World of Adventures there is a theme park, zoo and Sea Life centre. The destination boasts over 40 rides and attractions and over 1,000 animals. And finally, at Legoland Windsor Resort there are over 55 rides and attractions based on Lego and Duplo brands and designed for three to 12-year-olds. There are approximately 47million Lego bricks throughout the park, with around 20million in Miniland alone. 5 5 Alternatively, annual passes are still available, with multiple different options that also have free parking and discounts on food and hotel stays. In addition, Legoland is even getting a grand new look. Earlier in June, new images revealed that the entrance gates to the park will undergo an upgrade. The plans show that two new structures will be built on either side of the Legoland sign - which look like giant Lego bricks. They will also include Lego characters such as knights and ninjas. Lego characters such as knights and ninjas are also on the towers. Other upgrades at the park include a new Brick Street Cafe, improved bag search and ticket areas and crossing. Plus, The Sun's Veronica Lorraine recently tested all the rollercoasters at Thorpe Park. 5

What to pack in your car for a summer road trip, according to automotive experts

Ah, the summer road trip — one of my favorite pastimes. Every year growing up, my family packed up the minivan and hit the road, driving all over the country to visit national parks and roadside monuments (Corn Palace and Wall Drug, anyone?). Now that I'm a father myself, I've kept the tradition going — minus the minivan. These days, it's a whole lot easier. No paper maps. No TripTiks from AAA (remember those?). An iPad keeps the back seat happy, and instead of digging through a pile of CDs, I just queue up my kiddo's favorite soundtracks on my phone. Of course, even with all the modern upgrades, a good road trip still takes some prep. To make sure I wasn't missing anything, I tapped car expert and longtime automotive writer David Gluckman for his best tips on how to get your car road-trip ready — from what to check under the hood to what to stash in the trunk. Between his advice and the setup I've dialed in over the years, we've got a formula that keeps everyone charged, entertained and (most importantly) full of snacks. Here's how to prep for a road trip — and the summer essentials I bring on every adventure to make sure things go (somewhat) according to plan. First things first, before leaving your driveway, you should make sure your car is in good working order. That means checking the brakes, battery, tires and getting an oil change. And in the off-chance that your car has a few hiccups on the road, it's better to have the tools to deal with those issues than wait for a tow truck. Believe me, I've been there. Make sure all of the equipment that came with your car is still there as well, says Gluckman. "This should go without saying, but make sure your car has its jack onboard and the spare tire is inflated or you have a tire-repair kit if the car didn't come with a spare." You've got kids in the middle seat, dogs in the third row, snacks flying everywhere and drinks being spilled. Keeping a car clean during a road trip can seem like a Herculean task. Don't stress. The car will end up messy. But by making a couple of changes, like starting the trip out with a clean car and using a car trash can instead of that old Target bag, you can keep your sanity and limit the disaster. Want to get to your destination quickly? One of the major slowdowns I've encountered is stopping for every meal. Don't get me wrong, sometimes you need to pull into that Waffle House parking lot just to stretch your legs, but if you really want to eat those miles up as fast as possible, keep your food in your car. My wife and I pre-make sandwiches and stash them in our portable fridge to be eaten whenever hunger hits. It'll save you quite a bit of money too, especially these days, when fast food no longer equals cheap food. Our phones are our lifelines more than ever, especially on the road. Maps, music and movies (not to mention the ability to call for help) all disappear once that battery goes dead, so keeping all of your electronics charged is incredibly important. While driving has gotten safer and safer, for most of us it is still the most dangerous thing that we do, and while we hope that nothing bad will happen when we're on the road, it's better to be prepared for the worst.
