Missing A Tooth? Scientists Develop New Drug that Regrows Teeth

If you're one of the millions of people who have a gaping space in your gums where a tooth used to be, there's reason to hope you might not have to spend the rest of your days with an uneven smile or fake teeth. Scientists in Japan have announced that they are moving forward with a drug that is capable of regrowing human teeth, Popular Mechanics reports. The drug works by suppressing an antibody called uterine sensitization–associated gene-1 (USAG-1). In ferrets and mice, this protein is shown to inhibit the growth of teeth, according to Dentistry Today. In a press release, Dr. Katsu Takahashi, a lead author of a study from Kyoto University and the University of Fukui, said, "We knew that suppressing USAG-1 benefits tooth growth. What we did not know was whether it would be enough.' He adds, "Ferrets are diphyodont animals with similar dental patterns to humans.' An article from Dentistry Today reports that researchers found that the 'USAG-1 protein could limit the growth of teeth in mice.' And that suppressing the protein would 'potentially invite their teeth to grow.' Trials conducted on mice were successful. Even more exciting, Dentistry Today reports, is that Takahashi's previous research shows that humans have a third row of teeth in their mouths. Those teeth are available as buds, and Takahashi believes they can be activated. The human trial for regrowing teeth is expected to last about 11 months, according to Popular Mechanics. Originally, it will consist of 30 men between the ages of 30 and 64. A qualification is that they each must be missing a tooth, an article in New Atlas reports. The article also states that if the trial is proven safe and effective, plans are to open the trial to patients between the ages of 2 to 7, who are missing at least four teeth. Researchers hope to have the drug available by the year 2030, Popular Mechanics A Tooth? The Creator of SQUID GAME Lost 10 Teeth While Shooting The Series; and He Hasn't "Put Them Back in Yet" — GeekTyrant

Squid Game series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk recently revealed that the production of the series has taken a physical toll on him as he lost a lot of freakin' teeth! While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hwang talked about shooting Season 3 and confessed: 'I thought it was going to be okay, but this time I had to pull out two more teeth as well. I had to pull out about eight teeth in season 1, and now I have two teeth more out, and I haven't put them back in yet. So I'm waiting for them.' That's a total of ten teeth sacrificed at the altar of deadly children's games, existential dread, and masked game masters. What the hell!? Was he so streessed out that his teeth were just falling out of his head! This is a nightmare that I have, for real! While most people lose sleep over work stress, Hwang seems to lose molars. I guess this shows just how much pressure he's under to deliver a finale worthy of the cultural juggernaut he created. Season 3 will bring the mainline series to a close, but Hwang's not ruling out the possibility of a spin-off. He explained: 'If I make [a] spin-off, it will be a story happening between season 1 and 2. There [was] a three years gap between season 1 and 2. So, I want to show what they did for those times.' As for what lies ahead, Netflix's official synopsis reads: 'Gi-hun, a.k.a. Player 456, [is] at his lowest point yet. But the Squid Game stops for no one, so Gi-hun will be forced to make some important choices in the face of overwhelming despair as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games that test everyone's resolve.' And if that's not enough to rattle you, series star Lee Jung-jae warned fans at Netflix Tudum 2025 that the new season will 'shock the world one last time.' Squid Game Season 3 hits Netflix on June 27. Here's hoping Hwang gets some well-earned rest… and a good dentist.

Country music star LeAnn Rimes runs off stage after teeth fall out mid-concert

LeAnn Rimes bolted off stage after her teeth fell out mid-performance. The I Need You singer was mid-song at The Skagit Casino Resort in Washington recently when her dental bridge became detached. 'Last night I was on stage, in the middle of [singing] One Way Ticket, ' Rimes shared in a video posted to her Instagram. 'I feel something pop in my mouth,' she continued. 'And if you've been around, you know I've had a lot of dental surgeries and I have a bridge in the front and it fell out in the middle of my song last night.' The pop star, 42, said she 'panicked' before running to the side of the stage to secure her prosthetic teeth and swiftly returned back to the microphone. 'Then I just had to get real with everybody and tell them exactly what was happening or else I would have had to walk off stage,' she shared. 'And so, for the rest of the show, I was literally like this, pushing my teeth in.' Rimes said she had to push her teeth back in 'every couple lines' while she singing her tunes and noted that it was in that moment she realised her song, Can't Fight the Moonlight, had several Fs, THs, and SHs. 'Like, Can't Fight the Moonlight, [the teeth] completely fell in my mouth,' she recalled. Fortunately, Rimes laughed off the dental disaster and even called it 'the most epic experience ever.' 'I don't usually have firsts in my career. That was a first and hopefully a last,' she said. Rimes hoped her teeth would stay in for her performance at the same venue later that night. 'We shall see,' she said before joking, 'The front row, get ready for something to fly out. If you catch them, please return them.' Rimes said she decided to take to social media to show fans that she was 'keepin' it real.' 'Like I said, there wasn't a f***ing thing I could do about it except either walk off, or just hold my teeth in and sing, so I just ran with it,' she said. 'The show can go on, even in the midst of sheer, utter embarrassment. You just gotta be real with people.' As for the status of her faulty dental bridge, Rimes said 'It's all good.' 'They're in for now,' she said, adding that the mishap was the most 'epic' example of how the show must go on.
