(File pic) PETALING JAYA : A businessman hoping to net a major procurement project from a college in Terengganu ended up losing RM932,300 instead. Kuala Terengganu district police chief Azli Noor said the 52-year-old victim received a WhatsApp message on May 28 from a man claiming to be a representative of the college, Bernama reported. He said the suspect had offered the victim a closed tender to supply and deliver portable generator sets to the college located in the Kemaman district. 'The victim made payments totalling RM932,300 into two different bank accounts using his company funds and personal savings, too. 'However, upon checking with the college, the victim discovered that no such tender had been offered, as claimed by the suspect,' Azli said in a statement today. He added that the victim lodged a police report at 11.53pm yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Fake IPT solar tender leaves Terengganu trader almost RM1m in the red

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — A trader in Terengganu has lost RM932,300 after allegedly falling victim to a scam syndicate involving a fake tender to supply solar power generator equipment to a non-existent of higher learning institution. According to Kosmo!, the 52-year-old man lodged a police report at the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters last night after realising he had been duped. Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the owner of a construction and supply company was first contacted by a suspect — claiming to be a representative of a state-owned institution — via WhatsApp on May 28. 'The victim was offered what was claimed to be a closed tender to supply and deliver Eco Flow portable power generators to the institution. 'Interested, he sent over his company's details to the suspect,' Azli told Kosmo! today. Azli said the trader subsequently made eight transactions into two bank accounts provided by the suspect, using both company funds and his personal savings. 'He was shocked to discover it was a scam after checking with the institution's management in Kemaman, who confirmed that no such tender had ever existed,' he added. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Ramokgopa refutes 'conflict of interest' claims in Oberholzer scoring R9.5bn battery storage tender

But Mbatha was not moved by Ramokgopa explanations. 'Thank you, chairperson, we take this opportunity to reject any information that says there's [no] complication of interest. The COO left Eskom, officially, in 2023 and the following year, the tender was advertised. Then he gets a R9.5bn tender. This is not magic, this a conflict of interest. 'He participated in planning years; he participated in strategic plans. It's a conflict of interest. You should tell us what you are going to do, because it's a conflict of interest,' said Mbatha in his follow-up. In response, Ramokgopa pointed out that the controversial deal had been ventilated for four hours during a meeting of the electricity and energy portfolio committee on Wednesday, in which nobody produced any evidence of wrongdoing. 'We spent four hours in the portfolio committee and these allegations were not substantiated. 'The second thing, just to understand the configuration of the procurement process, [is that] Eskom is not involved in the procurement of new generation capacity. Eskom through the NTCSA (National Transmission Company of SA), is the buyer of this new generation capacity. 'The process is incubated at the DBSA and the design was deliberate, to ensure that buyer is not involved in the procurement process, to ensure that the executive authority is not involved in the procurement process as laid out. 'If there's any evidence by any members in this house or anybody watching at home, bring it to our attention or alternatively, you can interdict the process, and it will be ventilated, and you can substantiate before the courts of law. 'So, it's not sufficient just to label process discredited, without any substantial evidence. Thank you house chair.' TimesLIVE

Transport department ‘weighing' extending validity of driving licences

'The tender was awarded in August and in September we handed our investigation report to the minister, who passed it on to the auditor-general. 'In March this year, the minister announced that the [auditor-general's] investigation confirmed irregularities, and said she would go to court to overturn the tender award. We are waiting for clarity on the contract process,' said Fick. The department's Collen Msibi has confirmed the ministry received the letter from Outa and it is 'being processed internally for the minister's attention'. 'T he driving licence card agency of the department is also conducting a study of the financial implications on the extension of the validity period of driving licence cards,' Msibi said, on Outa's recommendation for an extended validity period. 'Motorists can drive with an expired card for up to three months before being eligible to be fined, provided they can show proof they applied for a new card before their current card expires.' 'If the card had expired at the time of application for a replacement, they must apply for a temporary driver's licence and keep proof thereof in the vehicle. 'A temporary driver's licence is valid for six months, or until the new or replacement card is issued.'

Indonesia's Pertamina seeks more term gasoline, document shows

NEW DELHI/JAKARTA, June 20 (Reuters) - Indonesia's Pertamina on Friday sought 200,000 barrels per month of 90-octane grade of gasoline for July-September delivery, according to a document seen by Reuters. It is the state-run company's third term tender between May and June, issued by its trading arm Pertamina Patra Niaga, Reuters record shows. There are no restrictions on the origin of the cargo. Some of the earlier tenders had excluded Singapore-origin cargoes. The tender closes on June 23 and is valid till June 27, the document showed. The earlier tender that was valid till June 16 sought to buy up to 1.2 million barrels of term gasoline cargoes monthly. Another set of term tenders that were valid till May 30 and had restrictions of Singapore-origin cargoes was awarded to multiple suppliers in China, at least one Indian supplier and a few international traders, market sources said. Pertamina Patra Niaga did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
