The Rookie Season 8: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on July 5, 2025, 20:00 IST Last updated July 5, 2025, 16:38 IST Alright, The Rookie fans, let's talk about Season 8! After that wild Season 7 finale in May 2025, we're all itching to know what's next for John Nolan and the Mid-Wilshire crew. ABC's hit cop drama has kept us hooked with its mix of heart-pounding action, messy relationships, and those moments that make you laugh and cry in the same episode. So, when's Season 8 dropping? Who's coming back? And what kind of chaos is headed our way? Here's the scoop on everything we know so far. The Rookie Season 8 Potential Release Date ABC gave The Rookie the green light for Season 8 back in April 2025, which was no surprise after Season 7 crushed it in the ratings—seriously, those streaming numbers were through the roof! While an exact premiere date has not been confirmed, ABC has announced that Season 8 will air as part of its midseason schedule, likely premiering in January 2026. The Rookie Season 8 Expected Cast The heart of The Rookie is its cast, and thankfully, most of our favorites are set to return. Here's who you can expect to see patrolling the streets of LA: Nathan Fillion as John Nolan: Our not-so-rookie-anymore hero is back, still bringing that mix of grit and heart that makes him the show's anchor. Melissa O'Neil as Lucy Chen: Now a sergeant, Lucy's juggling her new rank and her rollercoaster romance with Tim. Eric Winter as Tim Bradford: The 'Chenford' half we all root for, Tim's got some big decisions ahead after that Season 7 cliffhanger. Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez: Detective, mom, and total badass—she's balancing it all. Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey: The precinct's steady hand, keeping everyone in line. Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper: Expect more of Nyla's sharp instincts and layered storylines. Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune: Nolan's wife is confirmed to be back, with Dewan sharing some excited posts about filming. Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers: Angela's husband is sticking around, now digging into cases as a DA investigator. Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez: Nolan's current rookie, still learning the ropes. Deric Augustine as Miles Penn: The ex-football star turned cop is now a series regular, so expect more of his journey. A couple of absences to note: Tru Valentino (Aaron Thorsen) left as a regular after Season 6, but he's teased a possible guest spot. Patrick Keleher's Seth Ridley got the boot in Season 7, but his threat to sue the LAPD might bring him back for some drama. And then there's the bad guys! Bridget Regan as Monica Stevens, that scheming lawyer, and Matthew Glave as fan-favorite villain Oscar Hutchinson are both confirmed to return after their big moves in the Season 7 finale. Plus, there's a chance Pete Davidson could pop up again as Nolan's half-brother, Pete, if his schedule lines up. The Rookie Season 8 Potential Plot The Season 7 finale, 'The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar,' left us with some major cliffhangers, and showrunner Alexi Hawley's already teasing that Season 8's gonna hit the ground running. Here's what we're expecting based on where things left off: Chenford's Next Chapter The relationship between Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford, affectionately dubbed 'Chenford' by fans, remains a focal point. Season 7 left their romance unresolved after Tim asked Lucy to move in, only for her to fall asleep before responding. Hawley has assured fans that Season 8 will address this pivotal moment, with the couple likely moving toward reconciliation and deeper commitment. Villains Stirring Up Trouble Oscar Hutchinson's helicopter escape in the finale was straight out of a movie, and Monica Stevens slithered her way out of trouble with some shady blackmail. Both are back for Season 8, and Hawley says Oscar's arc will wrap up while Monica's scheming opens 'new stories.' Brace for some high-stakes cat-and-mouse games with these two. Nolan and Bailey's Life After their adoption dreams got crushed in Season 7 due to their risky jobs, Nolan and Bailey are in a good place as a couple. Hawley's hinted that Season 8 will focus on their bond as they face new challenges—maybe some personal, maybe some professional. Rookie Drama and More With Miles Penn stepping up as a regular, we'll see him grow as a cop, maybe dealing with the fallout of his Season 7 struggles. Seth Ridley's lawsuit could also shake things up at the precinct, bringing tension and maybe some new faces. Plus, Hawley's been dropping hints about a potential spin-off, like a patrol show set elsewhere, so we might see some setup for that. Clint Eastwood's ‘addictive' affairs exposed in new tell-all book

Clint Eastwood lived like a bachelor during his 31-year marriage to his first wife, Maggie Johnson — and she knew about it, according to a new tell-all book about the San Francisco-born filmmaker's life. Biographer Shawn Levy's 'Clint: The Man and the Movies,' which hit bookshelves Tuesday, July 1, delves into the details of the 95-year-old's romantic relationships over the years, drawing from archival interviews. 'By many accounts, including his own, he more or less comported himself as if he were a bachelor,' Levy wrote of Eastwood's marriage to Johnson, which spanned from 1953 to 1984, according to a report by People on the book. Levy then asserted that Johnson was aware of Eastwood's infidelity and claimed he would pick up women at his acting classes, on studio lots where he worked and even at the apartment complex where he lived with Johnson. 'One thing Mag had to learn about me was that I was going to do as I pleased,' the 'Dirty Harry' star told Photoplay in 1963, according to Levy's book. 'She had to accept that, because if she didn't, we wouldn't be married.' While he was married to Johnson, Eastwood is believed to have had affairs with Sondra Locke, who starred in his 1975 film 'The Outlaw Josey Wales,' and stuntwoman Roxanne Tunis, among others. Locke alleged that Eastwood told her 'there was no real relationship left' between him and Johnson in her 1997 memoir, 'The Good, the Bad, and the Very Ugly: A Hollywood Journey.' Levy noted that Eastwood admitted his affairs became 'addictive … like you have to have another cigarette' in Richard Schickel's 1997 book 'Clint Eastwood: A Biography.' Eastwood and Johnson eventually divorced years into his relations with Locke, who he was linked to until 1989. He went on to marry Bay Area news anchor and actor Dina Ruiz in 1996. They were together until 2014. Eastwood has a total of eight known children with six different women, including two with Johnson, one with Ruiz and one with Tunis. In Locke's memoir, she said she had two abortions and a tubal ligation because Eastwood said that he didn't want any more kids. The filmmaker later denied the claims. Eastwood most recently dated Christina Sandera, who was his partner for 10 years before she died of a heart attack last July.

‘Electric Vehicles: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'

NR | 1h 28m | Documentary | 2025 In the battle between electric vehicles and internal combustion engines, electric is winning—at least with the Federal and California state governments. Surely, the politicians carefully weighed the pros and cons, right? Bestselling author and media commentator Larry Elder is not so sure. He does the thorough analysis politicians avoid as the presenter, investigator, and on-camera host of 'Electric Vehicles: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,' directed by Mathias Magnason.

Buckingham Palace snubs Zara Tindall's 44th birthday days after Prince Harry comments

Zara Tindall has celebrated her birthday but Buckingham Palace has failed to mark the beloved royal family member's big day. The only daughter of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, she is not technically a working royal like her cousins and works as a pro horse rider, even winning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics as an equestrian. Tindall, who is consistently ranked as among the most popular royals with the public, celebrated her 44th birthday on Thursday. However, none of the official palace social media accounts marked Tindall's big day following a policy change surrounding birthdays after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. In 2022, royal aides announced the palace will only mark the birthdays of 'working members' of the royal family on their official social media accounts. Awkwardly, the snub came just days after Tindall appeared to break rank with the royal family after publicly commenting on the monarchy's feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Last week, Tindall attended the London Sporting Club lunch and candidly spoke about her feuding royal relatives. "It is very hard to see from the outside, but 100 per cent, it is a family that is still going through the same struggles other people do,' the Olympian said, as reported by The Sun newspaper. The down to earth Tindalls live on Princess Anne's Gatcombe Park estate and share daughters Mia Grace and Lena Elizabeth and son Lucas Philip, who are similar in age to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Tindall serves as godmother to future King George, while her brother Mark Phillips has increasingly become 'like a brother' to Prince William after the Sussex feud. She was also recently spotted attending the Bahrain Grand Prix alongside her other cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as well her aunt the Duchess of York. Meanwhile, her husband Mike Tindall has publicly defended his in-laws amid Markle's claims about her struggles marrying into the royal family. Reflecting on his own transition into royal life, the former English rugby star admitted it was "easier than it could have been". "Believe it or not, marrying into the royal family was pretty easy for me," he wrote in his memoir, The Good, the Bad, and the Rugby: Unleashed, released in October. In a passage many took to be a cheeky dig at Markle, he wrote: "They were always nice to me, and I was always nice to them. Simple really."
