There are just two small trucks on the market, but when it comes to towing capability, Hyundai's offering tops the Ford Maverick with relative ease. Both the Volkswagen ID Buzz and the Hyundai Ioniq 9 have a lot in common: competitive pricing, spacious accommodations, and all-electric power—but which one suits you better? A classic Mercedes in every sense of the word Mercedes-Benz's classic lineup is full of nothing but head-turners, with its SL models being some of the most recognizable. The 230SL isn't quite the headline-maker that the 300SL is, but the 'Pagoda' Mercedes, so-called for its slightly concave hardtop, still deserves praise in its own right. If you feel the same way, this particular one is for sale on Exotic Car Trader, and you can check out the listing by clicking here. Production of the Mercedes-Benz 230SL ran from 1963 to 1967, with a 2.3L inline-six engine making 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque through either a 4-speed manual or automatic transmission. The engine was based on the M180 inline-six but featured several modifications needed to boost output, like a higher compression cylinder head, bigger valves, a modified camshaft, and a fuel injection pump with six plungers. To further ensure this luxury roadster could glide across the road as smoothly as possible, the hood, trunk lid, door skins, and tonneau cover were made of aluminum to reduce weight. Out of the 19,831 230SLs produced, less than a quarter were sold here in the US. 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230SL — Source: Exotic Car Trader This 230SL is finished in Creme over an Ivory leather interior with two seats, a carpeted luggage area behind them, and the classic Mercedes-Benz instrumentation. The dashboard is free of cracks or defects and even houses the original Becker radio and analog clock. It looks like an extremely cozy and comfortable place to be, the perfect kind of cabin for a grand touring kind of trip. Thinking about selling your car? Get a value estimate and list it online with Exotic Car Trader. Click here to learn more. Under the hood of this one is a more powerful, rebuilt 280 cu in engine, presumably out of a Mercedes-Benz 280SL. If it is that engine, then it should make 168 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque through the 4-speed automatic transmission it's made to. The entire car rides on front and rear coil springs with power-assisted recirculating ball steering, with the power part being an available option. The fact that this example has a later, more powerful engine swapped into it might make it lose some points to those who prefer an original, untouched example. Those who prefer having more power over a numbers-matching car, though, will find themselves right at home with this one. According to the Hagerty Valuation Tool, prices for 230SLs have been steadily decreasing, with one in Excellent condition commanding around $90,500 and one in Good condition bringing about $56,700. The fact that this low-mileage example is only going for $49,950 makes it a relative bargain if, again, you don't care about the engine swap. No information is provided about the engine swap or the rebuild, so we'd get some more information on that from the seller before getting your wallet out. That said, if you imagine a cross-country road trip at the helm of this 230SL, you'll understand why enthusiasts yelp in excitement whenever one drives by and why this one should excite you. Honda Should Be Concerned About The Toyota Corolla Hybrid's Price And Efficiency
Despite the Lexus UX 300h being a hybrid, Acura's webpage for the ADX says its compact SUV is better. Is it? In a packed segment, Ford and Hyundai have some compelling offerings. But which one is the right fit for you? There are just two small trucks on the market, but when it comes to towing capability, Hyundai's offering tops the Ford Maverick with relative ease. Compact cars get more efficient Compact cars are known for being more efficient than their larger counterparts, and they get even more efficient in hybrid form. The Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla have one of the industry's most intense rivalries, and now it looks like that battle is extending into the hybrid realm. With the addition of the Honda Civic Hybrid to the range for the 2025 model year, these Japanese compact sedans were destined to go tire-to-tire eventually. 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring Hybrid — Source: Honda The Toyota Corolla Hybrid is more affordable The Honda Civic Hybrid is available in both sedan and hatchback bodystyles. In sedan form, the 2026 Civic Sport Hybrid is priced from $29,295. It rides on black 18-inch alloy wheels, with LED lighting and heated side mirrors. Inside, the Civic Sport Hybrid features red ambient lighting, sport pedals, and heated seats. A seven-inch touchscreen display comes standard, along with eight speakers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Sport Touring Hybrid starts at $32,295, with upgrades that include a nine-inch touchscreen display, a premium Bose 12-speaker audio system, and wireless smartphone connectivity and charging. 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid — Source: Honda The Honda Civic Hybrid hatchback comes with a similar set of amenities, minus the red ambient lighting and a few other features. Like in the sedan, there's a $3,000 difference between the two available trim levels. The Sport Hybrid model will cost you $30,495, while the top-spec Sport Touring Hybrid is priced from $33,495. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid is only available in sedan body style, but it significantly undercuts its Japanese competitor in price. In base form, the Corolla Hybrid LE starts at $23,825, which is more than $5,000 cheaper than the Honda Civic Hybrid in either body style. Practicality is the name of the game, and the base Corolla Hybrid rolls out on 16-inch wheels complemented by LED headlights. Toyota has been upping its tech game, though, and all Corolla Hybrid models come with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid — Source: Toyota The Hybrid SE offers a sportier look, but opting for the mid-tier model will cost you $26,265. That price tag nets you a few notable upgrades, including 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport mesh black front grille with LED lighting, and sport seats. The Hybrid SE also sees wireless smartphone charging added to its standard equipment. The Hybrid XLE, starting at $28,190, is designed for comfort with a handful of upscale amenities, like SofTex-trimmed heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is incredibly efficient Toyota is known for practicality over frills, and the Corolla Hybrid definitely got the memo. Designed to offer transportation and little else, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE and XLE earn up to 53 mpg in the city and 46 mpg on the highway, for a combined 50 mpg. The sportier SE trim sees fuel economy drop three miles per gallon across the board due to its larger wheels. Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't currently offer a hybrid-powered Corolla hatchback. 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid — Source: Steven Paul Make no mistake – driving the Toyota Corolla Hybrid isn't going to be a thrill ride. Under the hood lies a 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine that produces just 138 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, Toyota offers all-wheel drive as an optional upgrade to the tune of $1,400, but performance remains the same. Adding all-wheel drive reduces fuel economy to 51 mpg in the city and 44 mpg on the highway in the Corolla Hybrid LE model. Both 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid models earn similar fuel economy, which makes sense considering they share the same hybrid powertrain. The sedan is the more efficient option, earning up to 50 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway, for a combined 49 mpg. The hatchback model earns 50 mpg in the city as well, but fuel economy drops by two miles per gallon, leading to a combined 48 mpg. 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid — Source: Honda The Honda Civic Hybrid comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors. It produces a combined 200 horsepower, significantly more than its Toyota counterpart. Honda only offers the Civic Hybrid with front-wheel drive, though, so if you want an all-wheel drivetrain, you'll have to opt for the Corolla Hybrid. Final thoughts The Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla are two of the industry's most well-known nameplates, with the latter standing as one of the best-selling vehicles in the world. With the addition of a hybrid-powered Civic, their rivalry ignites in yet another segment. While the Honda Civic Hybrid is available in both body styles, neither can compete with the Toyota Corolla Hybrid's price. If all you care about is transportation, then Toyota's offering is the way to go. If you want a little more engaged driving experience while earning similar fuel economy, the Civic Hybrid's 200 horsepower goes a long way. About the Author Joseph Pudlewski View Profile

Indictments returned against operators of downtown Lubbock towing company
Operators of a downtown Lubbock towing company are facing felony charges stemming from a police investigation into an alleged criminal enterprise during which they are accused of illegally towing vehicles and faking documentation to sell them, according to court documents. On Tuesday, a Lubbock County Grand jury returned indictments against 45-year-old Jerry Cantu, owner of Cantu Towing, and 23-year-old Tommy Cantu, the company's sole dispatcher, charging them with counts of theft between $2,500 to $30,000. At present, court records do not list that they have any attorneys. Their charges stem from a Lubbock police investigation into multiple vehicle theft reports between April to June, according to court documents. The first documented case was reported in April 24 when a woman called police saying employees at Cantu Towing refused to tell her if her vehicle was being held there. The woman said she had left her disabled Nissan Versa at her old apartment and returned to collect it but was told by the property's management that they hired Cantu Towing to remove the vehicle from the property, the documents state. A Lubbock police officer traveled to the towing company's lot to find the vehicle, which was not there, and the officer documented the case as a vehicle theft. A month later, the case was assigned to a detective who searched a local salvage yard's database and found the vehicle. The investigator learned that Cantu Towing sold the vehicle to the salvage yard for about $400, reportedly using forged documentation to show that the vehicle was in their possession for more than 100 days. Towing companies are legally allowed to sell vehicles they impound if no one claims them after a certain amount of time, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation's website. A vehicle is considered abandoned if the owner doesn't claim it. However, the towing company must publish at least two notices stating they have the vehicle and wait at least 30 days after the second notice before taking any action. More: Lubbock police make arrests, seize property in Cantu Towing investigation However, an investigator believes the towing company sold the vehicle on the same day it was impounded, the documents state. Meanwhile, an investigator checked the database tow companies are legally required to use to report towed and abandoned vehicles and was unable to find any reports that the sold vehicle was listed as towed or abandoned. Investigators also spoke with the financier who owned the lien on the vehicle and learned that the vehicle was not under repossession nor was the financial company informed that it was sold, the documents state. On May 7, another woman reported the theft of her 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which she left about a week earlier at a convenience store in the 800 block of 34th Street after it broke down. She said the store's manager initially allowed her to leave her vehicle on the property while she waited for parts to fix it. However, less than a week later, the store manager told her that the vehicle was going to be towed from the lot. When she went to the store to fix her vehicle it was no longer there and the employees told her that a tow truck company with whom they have a contract took the vehicle. However, when she called the company, she was told that they never towed the vehicle. She ultimately reported it stolen to police after calling other towing companies and being told they also didn't take her vehicle. The Monte Carlo also didn't turn up in the city's abandoned vehicle database when police later checked. Meanwhile, the woman found her vehicle listed in the same salvage yard's website. An employee told her that Cantu Towing sold them the vehicle. Investigators later learned the vehicle was sold for about Investigators believed the towing company operators failed to report the towing of the vehicle to conceal it's theft and falsified financial documents to show that the vehicle was towed in January. On June 11, another woman called police to report that a Cantu Towing employee took her Toyota Seqouia from a handicapped parking spot at her apartment, despite having a temporary handicap tag on the dashboard of her vehicle. Two police investigators assigned the prior vehicle theft case traveled to Cantu Towing at 2710 Texas Ave. and spoke with Tommy Cantu, who said he was who stated he is the sole dispatcher for the business and authorizes any tow the company makes. Cantu reportedly told the investigators that he instructed his driver to tow the Seqouia despite having a temporary handicap placard displayed, the documents state. The officer found the vehicle at the company's storage yard and found saw that the placard expires in August 2025. While at the yard, the investigators listed the license plates of multiple vehicles in there, later learning that one of the vehicles was reported stolen earlier that month. Investigators later spoke to the woman in that case who told them she left her Buick Lucerne legally parked on the curb on May 19 in the 1300 block of East 37th Street after one of her tires blew out. She said she called her uncle, who agreed to retrieve her vehicle, which she left unlocked with the keys in the glove compartment. However, her uncle called her to tell her that her vehicle wasn't where she left it. The woman told investigators she called multiple towing companies, including Cantu Towing, but was told they didn't take it. Meanwhile, another investigator met with Tommy Cantu at Cantu Towing and told him that vehicle was towed at the 1300 block of 65th Drive. However, an investigator went to the 1300 block of East 37th Street and spoke with an employee of the only business on the block who recalled seeing the vehicle, which was parked legally on the street, being towed by a truck that bore an inverted triangle, which resembled the Cantu Towing logo, the warrant states. Police obtained a warrant on July 3 to search and collect evidence from Cantu Towing and seized evidence including 11 tow trucks and property that been listed stolen including a box trailer, an industrial pressure washer and a 1977 custom motorcycle, according to court documents. Investigators also obtained arrest warrants for the two men. Jerry Cantu was arrested July 4 and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center where he was released the next day on bond set at $20,000, according to court records. Tommy Cantu was arrested July 7 and released the next day on bond also set at $20,000. 2025 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Vs. 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor: 5 Major Differences
By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. View post: Walmart is selling a 'powerful' $60 drill set for only $28, and shoppers say it's 'as good as a DeWalt' Midsize trucks that can take on rough terrain While they aren't as large and in charge as their full-size siblings, the Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger are plenty capable all on their own. At the top of the range lies an off-road variant of each pickup. Designed to stand out from the rest of the segment, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Ford Ranger Raptor wield an aggressive stance accented by trim-exclusive features. While they're capable on the trails less traveled and wear a rugged design, these off-road midsize pickups have some major differences between them that could make one the better option for some drivers. 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison — Source: Chevrolet 1. Chevy Colorado ZR2 boasts a higher towing capacity The 2025 Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Ford Ranger Raptor are both fully capable on the trails, but towing is another story. Due to the extra equipment that makes these midsize monsters great off-road, Chevy and Ford's top-spec pickups offer less in the way of towing capability. Notably, however, both models can tow a small boat or camper with ease. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison — Source: Chevrolet While a standard Chevy Colorado offers best-in-class towing capacity at 7,700 lbs., the ZR2 model sees its maximum towing capacity drop to 6,000 lbs. Tacking on the more off-road-capable ZR2 Bison package drops towing capacity to just 5,500 lbs. The stock Ford Ranger is nearly as capable as its bowtie-wearing rival, with towing capacity topping out at 7,500 lbs. The Ranger Raptor sees its towing capabilities drop to 5,510 lbs. 2. Ford Ranger Raptor puts up better performance specs Chevy nixed the Colorado's weaker four-cylinder engine for the 2025 model year, leaving just the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the sole powerhouse. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, all Colorado models hit the road with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, the ZR2 model gets the same powertrain as all other Colorado models, which is a bit of a letdown, really. Sign up or sign in with Google Facebook Microsoft Apple By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor — Source: Ford The Ford Ranger is typically available with a 2.3-liter turbo four cylinder or 2.7-liter turbo V6, but the Ranger Raptor gets an engine all its own. The off-road variant boasts a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. As you might expect, neither off-road truck is particularly efficient. The 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor earns up to 16 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. The 2025 Chevy Colorado ZR2 earns 17 mpg across the board. Adding the ZR2 Bison package drops fuel economy by one mile per gallon. 3. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 is cheaper than the Ranger Raptor 2024 Chevrolet Colorado — Source: Chevrolet If you're in the market for a midsize truck capable of heading off-road for under $55,000, then the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is your best option. Priced from $49,600, the Colorado ZR2 model includes five selectable drive modes complemented by an off-road performance display. The Ford Ranger Raptor includes seven drive modes, but costs thousands of dollars more, starting at $56,070. 4. Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison adds to off-road prowess – for a price While the Ford Ranger Raptor is somewhat limited on optional equipment, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is quite the opposite. The available ZR2 Bison package adds a whole suite of off-road equipment, much of it from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). Opting for the ZR2 Bison package nets you AEV stamped steel front, transfer case, fuel tank, and rear differential skid plates. You'll also get AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers, wheel flares, and black AEV and Colorado badging. 2024 Chevrolet Colorado — Source: Chevrolet Colorado models equipped with the ZR2 Bison package get upgraded to 17-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires. The beadlock wheels stop the tire from slipping off the rim, even at low tire pressure. A bed-mounted spare tire comes standard as well. Inside, the Colorado ZR2 Bison packs AEV all-weather floor mats and front head restraints. Slapping on the ZR2 Bison package will cost you to the tune of $11,700, making Chevy's off-road pickup more expensive than the Ford Ranger Raptor. 5. Colorado ZR2 for rock crawling, Ranger Raptor for desert sands Suspension is a major component in everyday driving, and even more so when adventuring off-road. Notably, both midsize trucks offer around 10.7 inches of ground clearance, with the ZR2 Bison package upping the Colorado's ground clearance to 12.2 inches. The Chevy Colorado ZR2 features Multimatic DSSV dampers and a solid rear axle with leaf springs that make it the ideal truck for taking on more technical trails and rock crawling. When paired with the ZR2 Bison's five skid plates, it all comes together to make the Colorado ZR2 an absolute monster for weekend warriors and thrill seekers alike. 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor — Source: Ford The Ford Ranger Raptor taps in with Fox 2.5-inch shocks with live valve technology. That suspension, combined with the high-powered twin-turbo V6 engine, makes the Ranger Raptor the midsize truck of choice for rampaging through desert sands. Add in the dedicated Baja driving mode, and there's no arguing which midsize truck can tackle off-road terrain at high speeds. Final thoughts Chevy and Ford did well making their off-road trucks stand out from the rest of the range, with rugged styling complemented by a more aggressive aesthetic. This time around, Chevy seems to have put an emphasis on slow rolling off-road adventures, while Ford has given its midsize entry a more energetic setup. Regardless, both trucks pack plenty of power, with Ford's offering getting a slight edge. 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor — Source: Ford While they aren't as tough as their full-size counterparts, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and Ford Ranger Raptor have carved out a place for themselves among off-road greats. In some cases, their smaller size is an advantage, especially when navigating narrow trails and canyons. No matter your truck of choice, rest assured, these midsize pickups come geared for off-road adventures. About the Author Joseph Pudlewski View Profile

How Do a Camper, Bikes, and a Cargo Box Affect EV Range?
Mount a rooftop cargo carrier or hitch a trailer to a large gas SUV, and most drivers will take the inevitable efficiency and range hit without complaint. Do the same thing with an EV, though, and range and charging anxieties bubble back to the surface. We tested the Kia EV9's range with added accessories including a roof box, bikes, and towing a camper. Towing especially reduces range, highlighting the need for a larger battery or gas engine when it comes to long-distance towing. This summary was generated by AI using content from this MotorTrend article Read Next Can you practically haul skis or bikes or a camper with an EV? To answer that question, I saddled MotorTrend 's yearlong review 2024 Kia EV9 Land with three big-kid toys and measured their impact on range. The toys we gathered up would make for a great summer vacation. General RV loaned us a Modern Buggy Little Buggy 12LRK, a 1,685-pound teardrop camper with a sleeping space for two, an exterior kitchen, and a rooftop tent. A Kuat Piston Pro bike rack provided a platform for two full-suspension mountain bikes, while a Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite cargo carrier clamped to Kia's $360 accessory roof-rack crossbars added 16 cubic feet of lockable, weather-resistant cargo space to the 20 cubes behind the EV9's third row. Suppressing a strong urge to drive off into the woods, I steered the EV9 to our Michigan proving ground where I tested each accessory individually and the full rig with all three toys attached. How We Tested EV Range It would have taken days to run MotorTrend 's standard EV range test on public roads for all four configurations. That's not just a pain in the butt; the changing traffic and weather (which directly affects air density and drag) would compromise the results. To eliminate those variables, we performed coast-down testing on the proving ground's 1.6-mile straight. Coast-down testing measures a vehicle's road-load force, or the amount of shove it takes to overcome air resistance, drivetrain friction, and tire losses to maintain a given speed. Automakers regularly use it as part of EPA range and fuel-economy testing, following the procedures and calculations outlined in SAE International's J2263 standard. We used a simplified version of the SAE J2263 test for this story, but the basics are the same: Accelerate to 80 mph, shift into neutral, and let the Racelogic Vbox Touch data loggers record the speed trace as the vehicle slowly decelerates. The test is a rolling demonstration of just how aerodynamic and efficient modern cars are. With all the accessories removed, the EV9 sailed for more than a mile and was still traveling 40 mph at the end of the straight. The power curves above are calculated from the road load force. It takes 35 hp to maintain 70 mph in the bare, stock EV9. Pushing the roof box through the air raises that to 38 hp, while pulling the trailer at 70 mph requires more than double that. The Range Results An EV's MotorTrend Road-Trip Range represents how far it can travel at 70 mph using 95 percent of a full charge. Early in its stay, we established that our long-term EV9 Land can cover 270 miles in that test—a fantastic showing for a vehicle with an EPA range of 280 miles. The table below shows how range drops with the Yakima roof box, mountain bikes, and Modern Buggy camper hooked up. See any surprises? We were expecting a bigger hit from the Yakima roof box, both on its own and when it was mounted along with the camper and bikes. We were also surprised to see that the bikes mounted on the back of the Kia had a larger impact on range than the cargo carrier (though the difference is small enough to be insignificant). We're not surprised to see the Modern Buggy camper takes a huge bite out of the Kia EV9's range. While the teardrop camper is fully shielded by the EV9's frontal area, the rooftop tent sticks above the SUV's roofline and likely creates significant turbulence. Kia engineers clearly knew that towing long distances would be a fool's errand. The moment you plug a trailer's electrical connector into the EV9, the range estimation plummets to just over 100 miles on a full charge, slightly under-promising so that the EV9 has a chance to overdeliver. As long as you aren't traveling far, the EV9 is a fantastic tow vehicle. The factory-installed hitch is easy to access and features huge ears that make hooking up safety chains easy. The blind-spot cameras give you a great view when changing lanes, and with its upgraded 516 lb-ft of torque, our EV9 Land effortlessly tugs light loads. Our big-kid toy test proves that it's possible to still cover long distances in an EV with a roof-mounted cargo carrier or rear-mounted bike rack installed. Towing, though, remains the one hurdle that can only be solved with a massive battery—or a gas engine.
